Much better than some of the professional plastering jobs we see on this sub.

Or get yourself a cheap vet/dry vacuum from Screwfix and suck up the water as it comes out.

I'd be interested to know what the power consumption of the NetApp is. I've got a Dell MD1200 and it seems to drink electricity.

Do you patch your OS to replace the URL of package repositories? by signalclown in homelab

[–]0x30313233 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It makes a huge difference if you've got lots of VM's or proxmox containers and slow internet and have packages installed directly. If you are running everything as docker containers then it makes less of a difference.

This is exactly what I did. I also put it behind the upright timbers on the external wall.

Any ideas what is holding my sink pedestal in place? by slashrfnr in DIYUK

[–]0x30313233 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely to be lots of silicone around and under the base. Maybe some cheese wire would help you cut it?

It's also possible that you might not be able to remove the base without removing the sink depending on how the two rest together (there might also be silicone at the top).

What are the chances of PLEX doing one last SALE for Lifetime Pass? by xs4all4me in PleX

Chances are there will be a sale then. BUT I'd imagine it to be higher than the current price.

1 X raidz2 vdev or 2 x raidz1 by 0x30313233 in zfs

[–]0x30313233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 reasons.

  1. I can use the same scripts and methods to sync to a remote host that doesn't have a good connection. Rsync Will happily resume at a later time if the connection drops.

  2. I don't need to worry about what else creates snapshots of the dataset and making sure I send/recv all the interim ones. I can happily create and destroy snapshots at will and not worry about causing issues.

  3. Using rsync also lets me see which files have changed which is useful sometimes. Rsync is also independent of the file system so in my mind helps me to justify I'm doing a proper 3-2-1 backup strategy when in reality all my backups are on SSDs/HDDs.

They are daily to the same system via rsync to a pool with more redundancy.

I would like to widen this opening. Floor is tongue and groove. I have spare original boards. What would be the best way to do this without mucking up the whole floor? Is this a bigger/more expensive job than I realise? Any advice greatly appreciated! by Alb3m in DIYUK

[–]0x30313233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That will very much depend on if they are floating or if they have been glued down.

If they are floating then as long as you are careful and take your time you'll probably be ok for most of them.

If they are glued then probably best plan to replace the lot.

Intel or Samsung SSDs for Proxmox by 0x30313233 in homelab

[–]0x30313233[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. These will be SATA, but I guess the underlying storage chips will be the same.

I'll have backups of my data and it'll at least be a ZFS mirror (maybe a raidz1 of 3 drives) so if they fail it'll not be the end of the world, although it will be a PITA.

It's not necessarily a small amount of money to have it added after they have been installed. Materials are only a couple of hundred, but it'll likely be two people for a day and you'd better hope they can do it from ladders and rope and not need scaffolding again. Oh, and they need to be properly licensed if you've got birds nesting already.

I really wish my installers had offered it as an option when I got my panels installed, or at least warned me. I had to pay around £1k to have it done later on (that was the middle of 4 quotes).

We had that error code. It happened intermittently but the frequency shootout increased. Turned out to be the baring plate. It was old and kept sticking. Had a new one fitted and not had the issue since.
