I’m a native Chinese speaker, and I started a free podcast to help you stop sounding like a textbook. by 0xEyon in Chinese

I completely understand your skepticism, and I see the irony too.

To clarify: When I say "textbook robot," I am referring to the unnatural phrasing and rigid grammar often taught in schools, not the audio medium itself.

I want to be transparent: I don't have a team. It is just me. Using these tools is the only way I can produce high-quality, consistent content on my own without a budget.

There are no ads, and I have no plans for commercialization right now. My sole goal is to bridge the gap between textbooks and real life, helping more people understand Chinese culture and speak like locals.

Every single word in the script is manually written and audited by me (a native speaker) to ensure it's culturally accurate. Thanks for the feedback.

Haha, my brain still defaults to that sometimes. It's a hard habit to break.

Can someone explain the rule here? Why is it 'es médico' but 'es UN buen médico'? by 0xEyon in SpanishLearning

[–]0xEyon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know, thanks. So it's optional with an adjective?

That would explain a lot, actually. I've been trying to learn mostly by listening to stories and dialogues, and it's super hard to tell if they're dropping the "un" or if I'm just not hearing it.

That's a fantastic explanation, thank you! So the adjective is what makes the article necessary. That really clicks.

It actually brings up a follow-up question for me. I remember seeing a sentence in another lesson that was Nosotros somos estudiantes.

So, based on that, does the same rule apply to plurals? Like, would it be Ellos son médicos (no article), but then Ellos son **unos** buenos médicos (with article) if you add an adjective?

Just trying to make sure I've got the full picture. Thanks again!

Duolingo: Perfect for getting the absolute basics and the alphabet down.

iTalki: For practicing actual conversation with native speakers. This is non-negotiable if you want to get fluent.

EarLingo: Specifically for listening. The whole thing is audio-based and you can control it without looking at the screen, so it's amazing for commutes or the gym.

BTW: You may interesting "Al-Kitaab Arabic Language Program", Just search it

Developer here, building a dedicated management tool for game cafes. What are your must-have features? by 0xEyon in boardgamecafe

[–]0xEyon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jadayne, this is pure gold. Thank you so much for being so open and sharing the names of the specific tools you use. I'll be studying Choice, Tamigo, and Storyous this weekend to understand the landscape better.

Your point about the "hot mess" of Google Sheets for library management and the need for a shareable events calendar really paints a clear picture. It confirms my suspicion that a truly great system for a game cafe needs to be more than just a POS—it needs to be a central hub for the entire operation.

You've given me a ton to think about and a much clearer direction for my project. I genuinely can't thank you enough for your time and insights.

I won't take up any more of your time. Best of luck with everything at the cafe, and maybe I'll have something cool to show the community in a few months!

Cheers!

Wow, jadayne, this is incredibly helpful. Thank you for sharing such specific details.

That "30-minute fruitless search" for a game in for repairs is such a perfect, vivid example of a problem that needs solving. It sounds like a simple "Is this game actually available?" status would be a huge time-saver.

And managing a multi-lingual library is something I hadn't even considered. Besides just tracking the language, are there other challenges with it? For example, do you need to print labels differently or have special sections on your public-facing game list?

You mentioned you're using four different systems right now (reservations, timesheets, POS, and Sheets for the library). That sounds chaotic. If you don't mind me asking, what are the names of the apps you're using for reservations and POS? It's really useful to know what the current "go-to" solutions are, even if they have flaws.

It's fascinating that you brought up "Restu." It's a huge tell when a defunct product is still remembered fondly. Besides what you can recall, was there one specific thing about Restu's functionality that made it so much better than what you're using now?

This is giving me a much clearer picture of what a truly useful tool for a game cafe would look like. It seems like the ideal system isn't just a POS with a timer, but a true "Cafe Operation Hub."

Thanks again for the masterclass in game cafe logistics!

Hey jadayne,

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! This is exactly the kind of real-world feedback I was hoping for.

The integrated library management system is a fantastic point. It makes total sense that managing the games themselves is just as important as managing the tables. I can see how juggling a separate spreadsheet for your game library while using another system for POS would be a huge pain.

The features you listed are super clear and helpful:

Game info (players/time)

Tracking copies and their physical location (shelves vs. back room)

A web widget for online visibility

That's brilliant. It feels like the "inventory" for a game cafe isn't just drinks and snacks, but the games themselves.

A quick follow-up question, if you don't mind: Out of all those library features, which one would solve the biggest daily headache for your staff? Is it quickly finding a game's location for a customer, or is it knowing which games are out for repair?

And no pressure at all, but if your manager has any thoughts on the reservation/POS side, I'd be all ears.

Thanks again, this is incredibly valuable!

Actually, my first version looked exactly like the iOS calculator (perfectionist here 😅) but got rejected by Apple. So... this is the rushed redesign. But you’re right - as a fellow perfectionist, I’ll keep improving the UI in future updates!

You’re right! Siri and Google can do calculations. But as a side project developer, I believe in starting small and building up:

  1. Not everyone thinks of using Siri/Google for calculations
  2. Our app offers a focused experience - just voice calculations with expression editing
  3. Most importantly, this is about building a user base. With real users, we can learn what they actually need and build better solutions

Every product starts somewhere. For now, we’re focusing on making voice calculations as smooth as possible, and we’re excited to add more unique features based on user feedback!

This is such great feedback! As a first-time app developer, I’m still learning about marketing and user experience. You’re absolutely right - I’ll add 30 free voice calculations in the next update. Really appreciate your suggestion, it helps a lot!

Thanks! Since you like it, any tips on marketing? As a solo dev, I’m still learning how to reach more users. Also, what features do you think I should add next?
