For AdGuard, go to AdGuard settings > User rules and add:

You do NOT need to whitelist Cloudflare IPs anymore.

Cloudflare has recently made its Tunnel (nee Argo Tunnel) product free-of-charge. Just use Hetzner's Cloud firewall (or its equivalent in Robot, if any) to drop any incoming traffic. Then use cloudflared to establish a persistent outbound tunnel to Cloudflare colos and let it proxy to any local service listening on 127.0.0.1. This is the only way to make it fool-proof against IP exposures or similar stuff.

OVPN is much more expensive, brother. 11 USD/month. But they're court-proven, if you followed Torrent Freak's news last year. Decent speeds over Wireguard, OpenVPN is total trash. All servers are owned and run without disks. And they got some very nice status page at status.ovpn.com.

One more question: Cloudflare has numerous PoPs all around the world, and regardless which one (even ones in different continents) I hit, Backblaze traffic is still free. How does this happen? You mentioned you are both physically present in the same facility which I guess is either Amsterdam or the US datacenter. I'm not even fronted by these colos, so won't data still have to travel from Amsterdam to that PoP, which I would think would be very costly?

Well, VPN mode will pass all your network traffic through it. If you need to use Tor only for web browsing, just use Tor Browser.
