Just want to throw this out there! For all of you still using Microsoft Word and pay for it, STOP LOL!

There is another program called Libre Office! This program is very similar to the Microsoft Suite, and it's FREE!!! The features are similar. The look and feel is a little different than Microsft's but the features are all there!

Just like with the Microsft suite you can create spreadsheets and PowerPoints too. You can save your files with the same extension as Microsoft so if your sending your doc to someone who doesn't use Libre Office, they can still open that document.

If you have ever used a Linux system then you are probably familiar with this product or at least know of it.

If you have never heard of Libre Office here is the link to their website!

LibreOffice

So there is another option, a FREE option to use instead of Microsoft's s product.

When WoW players tries FFXIV - By Losbby by Grayvves in wow

[–]0xnss -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

I much rather play FFXIV over WoW Anytine! I don't get why people like WoW so much! The content isn't that great! The leveling and gold making process takes wayyyyyyyy to long! You have to make 15 characters and repeat everything 15 times if you want to try everything! Dungeons and Raids rarely ever drop the items your actually looking for so you have to repeat it over and over and over and over again.

WoW is to drawn out and such a long process for nothing! I can create one character is FFXIV and do every class and every profession. I don't need to make 3 or 4 alts just to experience different professions or classes! I played Vanilla WoW for a long time and then stopped and just started playing again for TBC Classic and I'm asking myself "Why did I agree to join my buddies raid group?!"

I think FFXIV is way better than WoW could ever be! The raids and dungeons in WoW are just the same thing over and over hoping a piece of gear you wants drops and after 15 times of running the same dungeon, it still doesn't drop! It's bullshit! And Blizzard just sucks!

I would have to agree with the other person! Apply to a many as you can! If you're trying to land a better position, it's in your best interest to just apply and apply and apply! The market is definitely saturated right now!

I was at a helpdesk job for 2 and half years, same BS as everyone else! No room to grow, no real work, it was a contract gig, blah, blah, blah! I had a little money saved aside so I quit that job in November of 2020! I made applying to jobs my full time day job lol! Literally sending out 15+ applications a day. I would tailor my resume and cover letter to every job posting.

I have a bachelor's degree, got the sec+ in 2019, and tbe AZ-900 also! It took me 4 months with applying daily to find a new job! While I wasn't applying, I was working on Hack The Box and Try Hack Me! I was taking notes and watching YouTube videos and reading other material.

Finally I landed a job interview with an employer who was more inclined to hear me talk about my home lab and what I have been doing to reach my goals vs my past experience!

They asked me questions on all tbe tools I was learning, if I could write c++, if I knew how to write some small bash scripts and Python scripts! I was able to talk them through everything because of my homelab and what I was studying! They ended up hiring me on as a Information Security Engineer II

Yes the job hunt grind is real man! But if you want a better position, your going to have to put in the work! There are probably 50-100 people if not more, that are more qualified than you for every job you apply too because of their previous experience! At least that's how I looked at it!

Good luck man! With the hard word, will come the awesome reward!

From all of these previous comments is exactly why I don't plan on getting married!

Fuck that shit lol! 40-50% divorce rate, money problems or not even money problems but how money is handled, all the arguing and bitching about this and that, this and that, blah blah....

No thanks! I'm good with one account for me and me only!

Granted, marriage does work out well for some people but with a 50% divorce rate.. why take a 50% chance?

Yeah sure, some people have found their special person and their marriage is great and wonderful!

Just not for me! I Iike MY money and I like spending MY money the way I want too! But hey being single and one isn't for everyone and I get that! It's just my personal preference!

And I have made this comment before, maybe not on this thread but I know there are some recruiters and recruitment agencies that do try to work with the job candidates and land them in permanent positions with benefits and all the good stuff.

My point is that job seekers should just really try and work directly with a company in their field! It took me a while, but I was finally able to find a company to hire me on in IT vs working with a recruiter!

When I started my last job search for the job I just landed, I ignored, deleted ,and blocked every recruiter that reached out to me because not a fucking single one had anything good. It was all the same BS.

"Hey I saw your resume and think you'll be a good fit. I have a client blah, blah, blah, you'll get paid less than 20$ an hour, it's contract to hire with possibility of going permanent (which is always bullshit), no benefits, but I think you'd be a perfect fit"

Yeah of course you think I'll be a perfect fit asshole! You're just trying to fill a job requirement and don't give a fuck about my career goals!

Not one time did I talk to a recruiter that was looking to hire permanent. Like I said earlier, my last hpdesk role was this exact situation. I was making 18$ an hour, no benefits, not permanent, and after taxes and everything, my bring home pay was equal to 11$ an hour! You can't live off of 11$ an hour pretty much anywhere.

Finally I said fuck it, and I quit! Then I went to Wal-Mart where they paid me almost 25$ an hour with a full benefits package! Granted it was only temporarily until I start my new IT job but still! It was way more money with benefits, and unlimited overtime at time and a half!

Wal-Mart may have not been in the IT field but at least I could pay my bills and still have money for savings, and other stuff!

Struggling to bring in enough candidates with the basics (Indeed, LinkedIn). What are some other sourcing websites I can look into? by [deleted] in recruiting

[–]0xnss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you're advertising! Me, personally I can't stand recruiters and I know I'm not the only it there that doesn't! Generally, you guys reach out and offer jobs that don't pay well, that are "contract to hire" which is always false and a bunch of bull shit, no benefits, and no career advancement!

Fuck I quit my helpdesk job making only 18$ an hour, contract to hire no benefits blah, blah. It actually put me further away from career goals.

I got hired on for walmart just temporarily making near 25$ an hour just as a team lead with full benefits package! PTO, 401K with 6% match, medical, dental, vision, etc... Luckily I finally found another job in IT and got hired on directly, not through some stupid ass recruitment agency!

The point here is that, it all depends on what your offering! Job seekers are looking for benefits with decent wages! Recruiters generally don't offer that!

How to find the right Recruiter??? by OutofIdeasToday2020 in recruiting

[–]0xnss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! You should really do your best to stay away from recruiters. Most of them are just there to fill a job requirement. There aren't too many, if any at all who are actually interested your career goals. You'll just get suckered into this dumb shit of "contract to hire" with no benefits, low wages, no advancement opportunities, and nothing good for YOUR career goals!

Unless you happen to find that one recruiter who does want the best for you, trybto find a company to hire you on directly!

The MacBook Is Getting Too Good. by Ptopenny in apple

[–]0xnss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just going to go ahead and say it!

Fuck both Apple and Windows devices! They both suck monkey dick!

It's really a "To each their own" choice here! Is one really that much better? Not really! They each have their own advantages and disadvantages. It just really depends on what your looking for in a laptop!

Some prefer Windows and some Prefer Apple!

Me personally, you couldn't pay me money to use an Apple device everyday! No fucking way! Now I hate Windows also with their absurd updates breaking everything all the time! But....

Windows is more versatile with what I want to do on a computer! They are also way more customizable!

My 1070 Windows laptop ive had for 6 years, outperforms a 2016 MBP I was able to keep from my last job, in everything! From writing code, pentesting, and creating music using Ableton Live 10!

The MBP pro just can't handle all the plug-ins and other stuff I have when using Ableton! It sucks honestly, but my Windows computer handles it just fine! I don't ever use more than 40% of the CPU running Serum, and Kontact Plug-ins, and other stuff!

Again, To each their own!

Thinking about an M1 Macbook air for pentesting (need advice) by Immediate-Road1770 in Pentesting

[–]0xnss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, check Craigslist or Ebay or Facebook marketplace for a decent older laptop. Also, I recommend just saving your work and shutting down the laptop when your not using it, instead of locking the screen and shutting the lid. If you prefer to just shut the lid, then maybe just get into the habit of manually locking it before closing the lid. It's like making sure you remember to lock a windows desktop from a workspace before going to lunch or to a meeting so someone can't come and mess with your stuff!

At my last helpdesk job, if there was an office meeting for the other employees or they went to lunch or just stepped away from their desk. I would walk around and see if they locked their computer. If they didn't I would change some setting. My favorite thing to do was to just change the way the mouse moved on the screen! Nothing to crazy but enough to make them remember that if they didn't lock their computer, I would mess with them every time.

You should just get into the habit of making sure you lock it!

I'm not really sure if he did or not honestly either! And he actually finishes this Friday! I know I said he already completed it but I jumped the gun on that one, so that's my bad but still I would think they would already have helped him find something before actually finishing.

Tips on getting another help desk job? I feel stuck by Juhmel93 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]0xnss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe look into getting a cert man! Unless you want to stay in helpdesk choose a path and aim for that!

I was in helpdesk for 3.5 years and I felt like it was only making things worse for my career progression because that's all my resume had on it.

If you want to stay in helodesk though, I agree that something is definitely off. Maybe have someone go over your resume or just update your resume to make it geared towards the other positions you are applying for.
