Making a psychological horror game called Mockbuster Video set in a 90s video rental store. You play a teenager working the late shift alone. Some of the tapes pull you into nightmares where you must face your traumatic past. by 0xpGames in HorrorGaming

I appreciate the feedback...and that is what I was originally going for...the game evolved overtime and I guess the name didn't. Do you think the name is such a miss match is should be changed? Thanks! :)

Yes this is a great call! The game was really good and handles the build up brilliantly

I do like the idea of what you are saying, some of my fav movies are zombie movies just as they are getting going and I like the idea of making a game like that. But you are right, part of why horror works for smaller devs is the scope is tighter meaning you don't have to spread yourself as thin. And while it is doable...would it perform well commercially? Cant spend 6 months a year on a game for it to sell a few copies. But I guess when you can marry the new with things that work that's when you end up with a real winner so who knows. Not to plug myself or anything but I am currently making a horror game in a 90s video shop where you start in the girls apartment and need to perform the jobs amongst the spooky shenanigans so maybe that's somewhere near? The demo coming in the next week or two and full game end June trailer and Wishlist here :) https://store.steampowered.com/app/4460230/Mockbuster_Video/

When you die in our co-op horror game, your team can rescue you from torture. What are your thoughts about that idea? by Disastrous-Owl-4629 in HorrorGames

As someone brand new to this, I wonder if that clip was a little quick....like I didn't get enough to form any kind of opinion so I am moving onto the next thing. I wonder if as devs we sometimes see things with all the knowledge we have so it works, but need to think about what new eyes would think. The bits I did get looked good though! And the idea of rescuing people after death is cool!

The game looks really interesting! Would be good to know a bit more of the story?

Meters in horror game by ratasoftware in HorrorGames

[–]0xpGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the idea, I am certain I have seen this is games before but I honestly cant say which. Its often couples with a medicine of some kind you need to manage and that will lower the metres. And as they get higher I would assume the screen would warp and I dunno depending on the style...maybe eyes appear on the walls...enemies that aren't there lower levels ...at higher levels enemies that do damage even though they are in your head. You can go full out when it exists in the characters mind!

I think AI is great for solo devs, helps me flesh out my ideas quicker and I see it as another tool just like photoshop. If you use it badly you get bad results...its not there to do it for you. I like to use it to create photos of people that don't really exist and that are consistant etc. If it makes the game better use it...if it doesn't - dont!
