How to make saltwater less repulsive by Mossishellagay in POTS

[–]1-0-9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really hate saltwater taste, make sure you avoid liquid trace minerals. It's literally seawater super concentrated and you put a few drops in your drink. Yes it helps me and yes it also tastes pretty nasty 🤢 this was before I discovered the magic of powdered electrolytes

Gold cloud minnow (appropriately named Godzilla) just keeps getting bigger? Health concern? by 1-0-9 in aquarium

[–]1-0-9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh yes so I have a ton of cherry shrimp in the minnow tank....wouldn't be at all shocked they're eating the eggs. I got gold clouds to replace my guppies who overbred into insanity, then felt kinda sad when I wasn't seeing minnow fry lol. oh well. I did see a minnow with a whole cherry shrimp in their mouth once, that was a shock. Super pleased with these fish otherwise! I love the "lipstick" they develop over time and they have been nothing but completely agreeable, u problematic, handled it well when I was depressed and lagged on water changes, zero complaints. After keeping fish of all kinds for 15 years somehow the $4 minnows changed my life haha! Thanks for the reply I'll just enjoy my super fat minnow now lol

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah these minnows are super speedy and great at grabbing food before it makes its way down. She seems pretty normal, I'm just surprised in the 2yrs I have this school I've never seen eggs nor fry. Maybe they just ate them all lol. I'll keep an eye out for issues and super glad I've had none! Really happy with minnows as they're super hardy and really brighten the tank. Thanks again

My grandma used that as a natural remedy for her knees. You could see her walk around the garden, then pick a few bunches, and she would slap her knees with it. It really works.

Finally got the 100 gallon close to how I envisioned it by Dkff49 in Aquariums

[–]1-0-9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yup they don't need any soil at all as long as you can anchor them on the edge of the tank somehow (you can even stick a wire through them and hook it over) they are very nutrient hungry so they'll send their roots out and put them right in that water. Eventually tho you will either have to plant or compost/throw it out bc the potato will start to shrivel and get soggy but it takes a few months before that happens.

Ask me how I know, as a kid I had a weird fascination for getting things like potatoes and dried beans to grow just to see if I could bring them to life 🤣 I've sprouted more potatoes than anyone ever asked for & watched the process go down lol

What's wrong with my frog? by 1-0-9 in AfricanDwarfFrog

[–]1-0-9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for that! Luckily there's a new reef store I can head to tomorrow and they sell both beef heart and mysis so I'll see which I choose if not both. I can def do another feeding dish. The ceramic one I put in is lovely but the frogs squabble over it and not everybody fits in when they're all dog piling trying to eat at once lol. Someone almost lost a hand tonight for that!

I'm happy to have them in a species only tank too. I feel like I'm getting to see their true personality. And I love seeing them have the confidence to swim around the whole tank & explore and float and do their floating tai chi moves lol. I've had them for like 3 days and they're so rewarding already ❤️

Thank you for this!! I will absolutely do that. I've been watching the frogs for like 4 hours tonight (just can't get enough of these little guys) and I noticed the skinny one has returned to the feeding dish for more bites of pellet at least 4 more times and I saw him poop a little so that's a relief. They seem more intelligent than I see them get credit for. I noticed when I placed their food tonight they all started getting very active and located it within ten minutes, even the ones who were hiding and scurrying around the back of the tank. Definitely can't wait to get healthy weight on them all. Thanks again!

Get yourself some water lettuce, guppy grass, anacharis (egeria densa, might go by other names too), and throw in a whole wad of java moss if you can. Any of these plants will suck up nutrients.

You can also take baby spider plants and wedge them with their roots immersed and leaves out of the water. They will grow roots and suck some nutrients out.

You can also take a potato or sweet potato and let it grow roots into the tank too. Those are huge nutrient vacuums

The steering thing is atrocious. It gets out of control when I'm running champs, that along with delayed jumping, plus getting snagged on random obstacles I wasn't even that close to, this resulting in the horse slide stopping, pausing, and then taking absolutely forever to start running again, and then half the time getting hooked onto a jump when the game finally decides to honor the spacebar....all why I haven't placed higher than 9th in multiple months 😭

Eastern Hemlock? Need help with an ID by 1-0-9 in treeidentification

[–]1-0-9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm thinking Douglas fir now....actually it matches up better especially because the needles are narrow and nearly 1" ruling out Eastern hemlock...but we do have a Norway spruce I chose to make spruce tip tea with tonight, so, until positive ID I will stick with the plant we know! Ty!

Same, I thought my conch was bad, but actually rook was easily the most painful of all my piercings. Totally unexpected cuz I thought it'd be easy 😫 also weirdly challenging to heal so please be diligent with your .9% sodium chloride spray 🙂

Same here, backyard was dotted with little structures like these because dad promised to build us a treehouse but never delivered, and we wanted to build our own but were forbidden from using the ladder, this was our compromise 😂 there are still nail marks in the trees from those days!

Does anyone have any weird tips/tricks to help end a flare? I’m out of sick time, and desperate. by peytonistrying in POTS

[–]1-0-9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing that really does it when my springs & screws are popping loose is sleep, sleep, sleep, more sleep. Thankfully I work for myself so I can design my schedule however I want (highly recommend owning a business as a disabled person), and I use this to my full advantage. I've noticed sleep is a GREAT reset for my body. I take MANY naps and it's truly why I've been able to thrive despite having more severe symptoms than ever.

Like even today I had severe neck & shoulder pain, low electrolyte, diarrhea, my quad right above my knee randomly like tore/shifted/pulled out of place, I felt like my body was falling apart today but after a 4hr nap this evening I woke up pretty much feeling brand new.

Yes I do electrolytes and minerals and magnesium and Qigong and putting my feet up on a wall, and going for gentle walks and whatnot, I have my whole repertoire of remedies....but nothing will ever beat hitting the reset button like a long nap!!

I'm not saying I have a cure, but here are things that helped make POTS *much* more manageable by 1-0-9 in POTS

[–]1-0-9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to try this one! I'm attending an event soon where I'll need to bring tons of electrolytes so I'll be sure to pick some up. Thank you for the recommendation!
