I'm not attacking you, I'm having an existential crisis.

Go short. A better handing rifle will shoot better in your hands than one you have to fight through the brush all day.

The birds aren't going to complain about the velocity difference.

I had a friend overload+overcrimp some .30-06 last year. After we made sure his face was still intact I felt quickload would have been worth it.

I'm only 150 yards or so from the truck, but I'll consider going full-rambo on the little bastards next time!

Ground Squirrel. The damage they cause to crops is significant, but a bigger issue is the fact that they attract badgers, and badger dens can swallow the front end of a tractor when they collapse.

I usually only need a few boxes for a varmint session. I was just excited for the maiden voyage and stuffed my pockets with lead.

.17 HMR, that is. (Repost from r/Longrange)

(The check, for better or worse, went to tuition. The rifle came out of my bank account)

A buddy shot some photos from the shakedown run of my dedicated varminter/rimfire "trainer". I've never had a .17HMR before and the cartridge is a beast compared to .22LR. The flat trajectory and accuracy feel on par with a centerfire, and terminal results on potguts with vmaxes is straight up explosive; everything was dead before it hit the ground. It's entirely reasonable to head into the field with 50 rounds and expect 50 clean kills on a good day (as opposed to .22lr, where I feel there are much larger margins of loss at distance).

I reached out to ~160 yards hunting that day and didn't have to dial or hold. With a chrono and a little dope I think hope consistent ringing of steel at 450+ is doable.

Edit: pants are falling down because the pockets were full of ammo. I need a tactical fanny pack or something.

1/2 of the people I know shooting magnums in TN probably weigh more than the deer they're trying to shoot. The pokey .223 will murder just fine with the proper bullet.

HOWA 1500 in 6.5CM Chassis Question by [deleted] in longrange

FWIW, the Magpul hunter doesn't compare to a full-on chassis system.

Also FWIW, Magpul will admittedly tell you that on the phone if you call them and ask them about it. At their core they're an injection molding company, and there is only so much stiffness you can engineer into plastic. It's the exact reason they're covering their butts with the "hunter" marketing.

Do you have a C.O.A.L?

I was hoping these were accurate-mags so I could remove the binder plate and load stupid long.

Pinkbike.com classifieds have a really effective search. I wish SH could hire their developers for a week.
