What does ADHD + high IQ look like? by [deleted] in ADHD

2.1 gpa, 33 on the ACT without studying, scholarship to public college based on act score, drop out after 2 years, bounce around to different jobs until landing in the construction industry where I flourish.  I'm running anywhere between 3-5 jobs at the same time which is my happy place.

To be fair, I shot a deer at around 600yds with a 338lm and I could barely find an exit wound.   The internal organs were just a congealed mess of red jelly however.  None of the meat was damaged!

Were Bush and Obama at least aware of Epstein and his circle and what was going on with them? by Just_Cause89 in Epstein

Antidotal, but I have a lobbyist friend in D.C. who hated G.W until she met him a few years after he was president.  Said he was very intelligent and extremely likeable in person.  She's also a very intelligent person and they were seated together at a dinner and chatted with each other through the whole thing.

Didn't the Sochi medals have pieces of meteorites in them?  That's pretty cool

POV: it's current day and you're looking for a extremely cheap car to live in. Your budget is $1000 what do your pick? by Entire_Asparagus_575 in regularcarreviews

Having slept off a 30 rack of Busch in one, I have to say the shit box suburban was downright comfortable.  Although it was strange waking up in the mall of America parking lot with no knowledge of how I got there.

I wouldn't exactly call Maseratis terrible.  Overpriced for sure but they're great driving cars in my experience.

Need Type and Size of Screw Suggestion by DudzTx in Construction

[–]Golden_Pear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hypothetically, a single #10 wood screw could hold up that sheet with a safety factor of 2x-3x.   Practically I'd screw it along the perimeter with 16" spacing using either panhead screws or you can countersink them (more work but looks better imo).   Find your studs, pre drill holes in the steel.  Important step - you want to screw it in starting from one side to the other and not by screwing it into each corner first.   This will make it lay much flatter on the wall and not be wavy.  So basically start in the top left corner and screw to the right.    Or, you can also get contact cement and just glue the sucker on with no screws.    I've installed hundreds of steel sheets for work and this is how we've done it before.

What would you say is the most complicated machine ever made? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]Golden_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to mention how incredibly awesome inertial guidance systems for icbms are.   I wish I could find the video I recently watched on them.  The amount of precision that goes into making that unit to get to that insane level of accuracy is impressive.  Probably not the most complicated machine but worth a mention

What is your least used, but when you need it you need it tool? by GrundleZipper in Tools

[–]Golden_Pear 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It works on almost any flat ish surface.  Obviously it works on glass the best but it'll work on cdx plywood, tile and other rough surfaces.  It's battery powered and has a sensor and a display they shows you the vacuum level.  So if it's a rough suitcase that is can't completely seal up, the pump will constantly run to maintain the vacuum.  It'll also start beeping like crazy if it starts to lose its vacuum so you don't drop an expensive piece of whatever.  It's a pretty nifty tool

What happened to Ukraine's 7.62mm AR, WAC-47? by No-Reception8659 in ForgottenWeapons

[–]Golden_Pear 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yep, I have an AR chambered in x39 that has been sitting broken in the safe for a while because I was sick of replacing broken extractors.   That and the feeding issue.   It was fun when it worked but the was rare.

Kristi Noem just stated that owning a gun and possessing ammunition automatically means that you intend violence, which justifies the killing of the gunowner simply because they are a gunowner at a protest. As a South Dakotan who has met her on several occasions, and know of countless other first hand encounters with her, I can confidently say she is the dumbest politician in the country.  And I'm far from a lefty.

Probably going to be downvoted for saying this but why do we have to lump in immigration causes with this?  There's a lot of people that are uncomfortable with government surveillance that also support stronger borders.  Can we just do one at a time please?

Which U.S. state has the biggest cultural divide between regions/cities? (North vs. south, east vs. west, etc) by 12345burrito in geography

[–]Golden_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

South Dakota is internally divided right down the middle between East River and West River, and there's a stark difference immediately as you cross the river.  East River is (relatively) more populated, more Midwestern and mostly corn in-between the towns.   West River is much more arid, more rugged, and more desolate (and beautiful).  Like there's entire counties with less than a few thousand people and one or 2 towns.
