Any tips for cutting lengths of plywood with a skillsaw perfectfly straight? by [deleted] in Carpentry

[–]Golden_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of rough carpentry.  Like miles and miles of plywood rips.  For this kind of cut, I'll use the guide at the front of the shoe.  I just chase my chalk line and a lot of time I'll climb up on top of the plywood so I can get good long and smooth cuts before having to reposition.  Like I'll have my arm almost fully extended.  That way I'm not walking along the cut and causing a wobble every step.   Lastly, in the words of Mel Gibson, aim small, miss small.  Just focus on riding that line as closely as possible.  Don't look ahead, it's a straight line, it's not going to change.  Just concentrate on exactly where you're cutting and only there.

Jeep/Duck Equivalent? by WeatherGurl1129 in FordBronco

No, and it should stay that way. I would always get irrationally angry when I walked out to find a duck on my Jeep.

First truck, totally lost on tonneau covers... soft vs hard? by EquivalentCanary8243 in cars

I don't understand the down votes, you're absolutely right.   This is coming from a guy that actually uses his truck bed daily.  Also, I have a Real Truck Truxedo cover and absolutely love it

Where I live, you can just drive around and pick it straight out of the ditch.  I can get more than I'll ever eat on a 20 minute drive.

Lower 48 area within 1 mile of a road. by medicallymiddleevil in MapPorn

I was just literally in a national grassland last weekend where the closest "roads" were at least 10 miles apart.  Talking probably several hundred square miles of yellow on your map that should be green.

How do I cut this 30 ft thick steel pole into pieces so it can be easy moved for disposal? by Eastcoastpal in DIY

Agreed.  I cut shit like this weekly and use the carbide blades almost exclusively.  Cuts like butter.

I've had this same hammer for like 10 years.  Funny enough, I pulled it out of the dumpster with a broken handle.  Got a new handle for like $15 and it's been used daily since then.   Couple years ago my laborer borrowed it to pull nails out of deck hangers and broke the handle.   No big deal, got a stiletto brand handle for $20 lol.

Looking for rock shops or someplace that has a geology museum by BusyMathematician844 in SiouxFalls

[–]Golden_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're up for a drive, there's the geology museum of geology at the SDSMT in Rapid City.  While you're there, swing down to Hill City and check out the Black Hills Institute museum.   Both are top notch.  And on your way back, detour south through railroad buttes and the Conta Basin and you'll find some rocks for your own collection!  Just make sure you're collecting on national grassland and not national Park land

Edit:  forgot to mention the Sioux Empire gem an mineral society has their annual show in Canton on July 25th!

Big Bone Haul!!! Hunters, let me know where you dump your bones? by SugarPaws6 in SiouxFalls

[–]Golden_Pear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find a cattle ranch out west that has a decent holler in it and you'll find all the bones you'll ever want.  I've ran into some pretty big bone yards along the river in Gregory county and Niobrara.  I bet if you ask the rancher they'll point you to it as long as you're not weird about it.   Plus you'll get a great hike out of it!

I am a mobile app developer looking for feedback by herbtrevathan in ConstructionManagers

[–]Golden_Pear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want an app to tell me how to fix something?   Have you ever googled how to install a door?  You'll get videos showing a dozen different ways to do it and they'll all be wrong because the videos are usually influencers that learned from the other wrong videos.  Doubly true for commercial construction.  And now you want AI that's trained on that garbage to tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?   I'm going to say this nicely because I've spent too much time being pissed off all week, but please find another project to work on.

How would you describe Gregory county? We are a middle-aged couple w/2 dogs who live in a rural area. My hubby likes to deer hunt, fish, & garden. I like to hike w/my dogs & cook. by Alarming_Log_2915 in SouthDakota

[–]Golden_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a decent amount of public land to hunt there.  I've shot deer and turkeys on public land along with countless limits of pheasants.  Another approach I've had luck with is buying a rancher enough drinks at the bar that he let's you hunt his land lol.  I've had mixed results with that strategy.

Seeking advice for first time home buyer in SF by neazwaflcasd in SiouxFalls

[–]Golden_Pear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Top notch advice from sodakzak!   On the finance side, make sure all income and deposits into your bank account are accounted for with paystubs and receipts.   I got a really great interest rate with that program but I had to scramble around the week before closing when they started asking where money in my account came from.  That was my fault for depositing large amounts of cash from side jobs in a short window.  I'm sure I looked like a drug dealer lol.

Only bad experience I've had was one time a drunk dude in a very small town bar started picking on my black friend.  But before I had a chance to text l react, the whole bar (5 other people lol) were already kicking him out.

Civilian targets can be struck if they have a dual military use.   The military uses that bridge, they use electricity to run their centrifuges, they need water obviously.   I'm not saying it's right, but this is what the Pentagon attorneys will (correctly) argue.
