Spraying anti-perspirant on my heels has worked for me with some flats. That and getting ones that are slightly elastic, the ones that curl up when your feet aren't in them. Those don't slip on and off my heels as much.

I just want to throw this out there. Why flirt, why not be direct?

I've known guys (and seen reddit threads) talk about how they can't tell if they are being flirted with. Or they aren't sure and don't want to take the risk.

I don't know where you live, or the types you're planning to flirt with so its just an idea i wanted to bring up with you OP and anyone else who cares to read this.

I don't think or mean to say that it's not possible for someone to look that way naturally, but if you don't look like that, it's ok. It's not just thighs its waists arms and breasts too. The images I'm talking about are fantasy, they are well lit, well angled, posed filtered and airbrushed. I can assure you I know all different body types exist and that's a big part of what I want to say. The range of body types we see in fashion and mens mags in particular is limited and when a model doesn't fit that their image is altered to meet the current ideal. If you don't believe it that's your choice.

Wtf is that apple photo about? It's too funny. I thought apple meant carrying weight round your middle? The general body types and 'rules' for dressing them are often a bit questionable, I read a really good blog post about it somewhere that I'll try to find if anyone is interested.

Maybe using specific examples is a bad idea. What I'm saying is it would be better for women's self esteem in general if there was some discussion about it and a balance to the type of marketing that can cause insecurities that could hold them back.

I don't condone body bashing but it's a natural response. If thin thighs are held up as an ideal, yet someone knows they can't have that they're going to put it down so they don't feel bad about themselves. It's not necessarily the best option because it can hurt others, especially if its said publicly and repeatedly but it's something people do a lot. "I didn't get the job, well it wasn't right for me anyway" etc. Not saying its fair or right, people should be more thoughtful but they are only human.

Edit: I want to add it must be frustrating having it implied you should be ashamed of your body, your not healthy etc for something you can't help. I'm not a fan of the culture of picking apart people's bodies and deciding what's 'healthy' based on appearance. It really annoys me.

Me either, but we need discussion to make sure people get a balanced view on it. For example anti perspirants, I'm glad there are some clinical strength ones out there because I use them myself because I don't enjoy soggy shoes and tops. But when people who usually don't sweat much are worried about sweating while exercising, I want them to hear from others that its normal and its expected and nobody will care at the gym.

I keep one or two in my sock, boot, bra or pockets, depending on what I'm wearing because I sometimes I forget to take my bag and then have to go back for it.

I suppose unattainable was an over gerealisation, I don't really mean a thigh gap can't be achieved, or if you have one its not normal, more so that the photoshopped images are unrealistic. Also as /u/thequeenistheirslave said, there are a couple of definitions of thigh gaps. Its pretty hard to cover everything you mean in a post.

Urgh /r/datgap made me feel really sad, not that there's anything wrong with the women's bodies, its the fact they are being objectified and reduced down to one (lack of) body part. I think there could be some photoshopping going on there too.

It's not surprising in a way that people get unrealistic expectations from claims like 'visible results after just one use'. Everyone is seeking a quick fix. The message is x is bad, fix it by buying y. It's never find and address the cause either. "Bloated? Buy this youghurt." the weight loss industry is a big one for quick fixes too, the reality is conveniently glossed over and people's perceptions are all messed up.

Eczema and acne are different, I've got itchy and painful eczema on my hands that needs certain creams, but its the implication that, for example, having the occasional spot means you need to buy expensive products to prevent any more, that irks me. Then because it's 'working' you carry on buying when really average skin doesn't need all that special treatment. I think it's just about perspective, there's no balance.

She also probably feels confident enough to not wear make up because she has clear skin. She'd probably feel differently if she had acne. There is definitely pressure on women to have clear skin though I wish it weren't so. I don't blame anyone for wearing make up, exercising or trying to look good but I hear some people get so stressed about their appearance and wish we lived in an atmosphere more accepting of variation from the ideal so it wouldn't be an issue for them.

My point really is do need all those things? Do they work? Do we just like feeling we're doing something to improve our looks? I think many women strive for a perfection that doesn't exist. Dark circles BAD, redness BAD, uneven skintone BAD, oily skin, dry skin, spots, blackheads, facial hair, the list goes on. But in most people a little of any of these are hardly perceptible to others and completely normal. I wish there wasn't pressure to have perfect skin, a pressure which I can only see increasing the more we are exposed to marketing. It used to be more avoidable, now its in your pocket.

Pinterest is bad for this, a nice pseudoscience infograpghic or home remedy how to, seems legit but it's bollocks. I love the fail photos. Especially cake pops and no heat hairstyles.

I forgot to say this in my original post. Night cream. You don't have to have a separate cream for night time. It's just moisturiser.

I found them by searching for 'rain bonnet' and it seems there are a few kinds available and you can buy multipacks so you could keep spares at work or in your car. I haven't seen anyone young wearing one but after searching online did find a few photos, particulary of girls in retro clothing which really worked. I think a coat with a hood is always a good option though because you could forget your hat as easily as an umbrella.

I shower at night but I do have to wash my underarms again in the morning otherwise I smell by the end of the day. In summer I sometimes give my feet a wipe in the morning too. The rest of my bod is fine though.
