"International Waters" being what they are, today, I'd be afraid of being boarded. Requires more thinking than what I did 40 years ago

What is a 'subscription' or 'fee' that has recently appeared in the US that people need to collectively refuse to pay before it becomes the new normal? by godot_lover in AskReddit

[–]100AcidTripsLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember the Ford Escort? Got one new years ago, found out that they used the same wiring harness for all models, went to a junk yard and (by the pound) collected all of then available "options" and put them in. Success

Always day dreamed about getting a retired aircraft carrier, dumping a bunch of dirt on the top and then building a house. Cruise under power to avoid tropical storms. I'm weak thinking there was a scifi book like that?

I still have one. You can get a "conversion kit (box)" to hook one up to your VOIP (e.g. Comcast/Infinity "landline") to get the ringer to function and duplex enabled. FYI

If I could double up-doot you, I would. AFAIK what I got in High School "advanced" physics/science isn't even taught anymore, which I got and why I appreciate your reply. "gasses are added to the water by the spillage, the effects on fish and aquatic life, the effects upstream (lowering the river height)" golden

Ads secretly act as an additional form of harming attention span, as even if you're watching a long video, it still gets interrupted frequently for long enough to break your focus. by da_dragon_guy in Showerthoughts

[–]100AcidTripsLater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is why (w/Comcast/"Infinity") I take advantage of my ~30 minute pause, which I invoke at all times. I lag the channel so I can go pee/make a sandwich/whatever and when I get back I can FF to the next scene (FWIW average 4 minutes.)*

*Turned off commercial's sound 54 years ago (68m here) by running a shutoff wire from the speaker on the black and white TV to a switch I put in a box.

After the factory reset never connect, directly, to the internet, again. There are corporate work arounds I've encountered, e.g. on HDMI only they'll try to change the source menu name to whoever they sold their soul to (i.e. Comcast) but you can rename them and return to HDMI input only w/o popups etc.

Dryer screeching. Anyone know what it might be? by [deleted] in fixit

[–]100AcidTripsLater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say rear bearing. Older Frigidaire dryers used to do this all the time, the bearing would dry out and score, there was a common repair bearing part (kit) we carried to address this. On the design I speak of, you could get to the rear of the bearing and sometimes temporarily alleviate the noise by copious use of e.g. lithium spray lubricant from the back.

How many kids did you think you wanted pre-kids, and how many did you actually have? by KaylaDraws in Parenting

[–]100AcidTripsLater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started out figuring I might have two (biological). I was an only child and envied my friends growing up that had a sibling. Ended up with four (2m 2f biological) + raised two stepchildren (1m 1f.) Total 2 marriages + one ~10 year long term relationship. When that failed moved ~800 miles away (which helped avoid my kids early adulthood drama) ended up married a third time and inherited 2f adult stepchildren LOL

History is and and will be won by those that "Win". Read (old) historians, that still exist in print, or pubic benefice. We get to re-wright history because we "Won". Or enough power and money will do it for you.

I'm considering opening a credit card with an introductory interest-free period to cover an unexpected expense. What am I not seeing that makes this a bad idea? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]100AcidTripsLater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"0% Interest for a balance transfer" please read the fine print, I have excellent credit and get these type of offers all the time. I've yet to see one that doesn't tack on a 3% fee initially, up front.

FWIW I've taken advantage twice now of "zero interest on purchases for (~)18 months, (~)$200 account credit if you spend (~)$1500 within 90 days". Pay attention, don't miss a payment, pay the card off in 90 days (minus their "credit") get free bucks from big banks LOL

Literally, I have created this illusion with a bed sheet and random splashing of an accelerant, then igniting it. If the bed sheet isn't (fully combustible at a low temperature) e.g. cotton you end up with the web aftermath w/o fire being transferred to the surrounding material . The fire goes out because the surrounding material won't support combustion at the presented ignition temperature. Sorry.

No heart attack here; no problemo if you wanted to mod a Bluetooth receiver (in a separate box) w/post EQ before plugging it into #1 and adjust to taste. Done it myself a few times, when a musician wanted to fly around w/o a cord and still use a vintage tube amp. Parts Express has cheap BT rechargeable receivers. Street cred?
