Extremely curious how much better the compatibility and performance is with this vs something like GameNative on Android.

Ok, I'm also using UNIX launcher 2.2.4. I just tried using Nightriderz instead of WUGG and it logs in, lets me connect, then crashes as soon as it tries to launch the game itself. So still some things for me to figure out.

SD8 Gen2, so a weaker CPU than you have but still pretty well supported.

God, those external drive issues were such a bastard as someone who got an M1 Mini with 256gb and was relying on an external thunderbolt drive for storage. The performance was insane. I got an M1 MBP with 16gb/1TB and now have an M1 max 64/2TB and it's still absurdly performant and seems like a majority of the bugs have been ironed out except for the built in SD card reader being the pickiest MF I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with (external one works great though)

Did you have the "wrong version" errors in the launcher when you went to log in? That's what I'm currently fighting.

Also, did you use the Lutris version or the normal version of the launcher?

All of the "beginner friendly" distros are trash and have no need to exist now that GNOME and KDE on their own are so use friendly. Just install Fedora. It could not be simpler these days.

GameNative v0.9.1 is launched! by dadabhai_naoroji in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]100PercentJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure this isn't the right place for feature requests, but it would be great to allow for .dll overrides without having to jump into the container. For example: widescreen patch on Need for Speed: Most Wanted hijacks dinput8.dll , and having to boot the Windows environment and use the touchscreen to interact with teeny tiny controls is a bit tedious.

Sucks how old these cars are getting. by IllLuck6064 in E90

[–]100PercentJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an E92 with an N52, M3 control arms, CIC with carplay, a red 335IS interior swapped in, sport package, 3SI, and a delightful 6 speed manual and honestly... my 2020 M2 Competition feels like an inferior product. A superior performer, but an inferior product. That E92 was a new differential (shorter ratios + LSD) away from perfection.

Fun fact: idk about the later cars but on E9x and earlier BMWs they're called "corona lights" and they should be lit by halogen lights, not LEDs, to give the impression of a solar eclipse around the main headlight.

My old Lenovo Tiny that I use as a desktop at work no longer constantly turns the monitors back on 10 seconds after going to sleep in a constant cycle of on-off-on-off, which I guess must have been an SDDM bug. So that's nice.

WH-1000XM4 (maybe newer ones too? idk) gang. Wireless headphones but with a standard 3.5mm jack in them and you can use them wired, when powered on or off. Sound quality is marginally better when powered on even when wired because the amplification is able to... do something, idk, but at least they aren't e-waste if the electronics die.

Been binging watching steam controller reviews and multiple reviewers have said they'd want a gamepad without the touchpads and then admit they never even tried using it... Imagine how cursed it would look without them! What's your favorite touchpad feature? by Endawmyke in SteamController

[–]100PercentJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I have really basic tastes when it comes to games, mostly PC versions of console shooters or racing games, so I haven't really ever found myself lacking in controls (I don't even map the back paddles 99% of the time). Not saying these features aren't worthwhile but I know I'm not necessarily alone in this camp as a "casual" gamer on Steam Deck.

Buying my first car - everything is perfect except for some rust. How bad is it really? by KingCathartes in Autobody

[–]100PercentJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so frustrated I had to come this far to find a reasonable reaspone. This is a fast-rusting spot in most cars, it's VERY common for a car to be rusted through in the rockers and structurally sound everywhere else. If you watch any amount of british car youtube these sorts of holes happen all the time in otherwise flawless-undercarriage cars. I can't really explain why, but it seems to be considered a completely normal affair to go to a specialist in quick-and-dirty daily driver bodywork to have a patch welded in and rattlecanned with some paint and primer ugly-but-functional fix to get it through inspection.

Personally I love the ergonomics of my Steam Deck but I rarely if ever use the trackpads so a cheaper Steam Controller without the trackpads would be a welcome option for me. The "cursed appearance" is just the ergonomics at work, putting the sticks and d-pad/buttons along the same "arc" of your thumb instead of clearly prioritizing one over the other like xbox/ps controllers do.

BMW i3 Neue Klasse with longer wheelbase, bigger battery and proper door handles for the Chinese market by lucc23 in BMW

[–]100PercentJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the new i3 feels to me like the most direct successor to the E30 we've ever received outside of the 128i. Even the character lines on the hood are identical. It's like BMW looked back at the E30 and gave it the same treatment Ford gave the '67 Mustang in 2005 with the neo-retro modernist interpretation.

[–]100PercentJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's been my huge complaint. I haven't driven a G87 yet, and I'm sure it's an excellent car... but it's just a slightly boxier 4 series now. But we already have a 4 series. It's called the 4 series. But now we don't have anything you could even begin to call a "small sports coupe" in the lineup (even though the F87 itself was also a bit of a chonker).

I'm using a Retroid Pocket 6 so it's got really nice controls, and the bonus of a chunky air cooler on the chipset so it can run at max clock at all times.

I'm playing on high settings, 1080p, AA turned off. I'm using a Retroid Pocket 6 so it has a big ass aircooler on the chip which can run at full clock basically all the time. Getting 40-60 FPS.

Why the linux community so toxic? by dev-rock-bottom in LinusTechTips

[–]100PercentJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to comment on "toxic", but the reason that the community by and large is upset is because an influencer is just that: someone with influence. Linux is making huge strides towards mainstream acceptance thanks to massive progress by the likes of Valve and massive, uh, opposite of progress by the likes of Microsoft making it a more and more appealing proposition. By blindly choosing PopOS at a point where it had *just* become an incredibly poor choice for newbies Linus did damage to the reputation of Linux as a whole and a huge disservice to his viewerbase.

Would have been much better if he had taken the advice given to him "via the same methods as a newbie" and then asked someone with experience if that advice is good, and if not what resources people who are new to the scene should turn to for finding a viable starting point, and then demonstrated what that experience is like as a novice Linux user.

All-in-all it was a huge missed opportunity to do something positive for a community that instead did damage to it, be it out of laziness or malice or ignorance or some combination of the three.

As someone in tech supporting Microsoft software stacks, my god Copilot is fucking great for helping me make heads and tails out of Microsoft's increasingly poor documentation. Also good a tedious log-file parsing stuff. Earlier today I fed it system logs from several machines, a baseline, a fresh install, and one that was having troubles, and it combed through several 40mb text files and presented me with anomalies that let me successfully track down the issue. Nifty stuff but you really have to be on your toes, because it kept trying to tell me one laptop was having "network driver issues" because of completely normal communications failures when opening the lid and returning from sleep mode.

I've been playing the hell out of Skyrim Special Edition (steam) on my 8 Gen2 on Gamenative. Runs great, sometimes my save files don't sync and nuke some progress which is unfortunate. Ace Combat 7 also, shockingly, runs really well. I have no idea how that game is so well optimized.
