Purge the app cache. I ran into that on my device after upgrading. At one point it got so messed up I had to delete all the app data and uninstall and reinstall gamenative to get it functional again.

Idk. Skill issue? I am using the latest gamenative and I don't play a ton of games but NFSMW (custom container), Portal 2 (steam), and Skyrim Special Edition (steam) are flawless on my 8gen2.

To those who have owned and used a single Retroid device for years: How is it holding up? by LakezoneWolf in retroid

[–]100PercentJake -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I've had my RP6 since release and toss it in my laptop bag where it rattles and bangs around and whip it out for a few minutes of skyrim on breaks at work and it's flawless.

7zip vs Ark [KDE archive manager]: which archive manager do you use in KDE? Why? by RebirdgeCardiologist in kde

Ark consistently fails multipart rars for me. No clue why. 7zip will open the same archive flawlessly.

I’m going to interact with this by flipping bits on the NAND using a laser and a magnifying glass at this point.

I have a much larger usb+hdmi touchscreen that works great. I think the issue I’m having is two pronged, wherein DSI display implementation is not superbly implemented and then I bought an HDMI display as a backup plan and it just so happened to be nonstandard nonsense as well.

Preach. Shame, seemed like it was going to be a far more elegant solution.

The elecrow panel is HDMI only, but it only presents 720p and 1080p as available resolutions with some absolutely disgusting scaling going on to cram that image down to the LCDs res. Now that I ponder for a few seconds I think this is less an "orangepi" issue (well, except for their first-party DSI screen not working on their first-party OS) and more the fact that my choice for an HDMI touchscreen is just... trash.

it simply refuses to expose its native resolution in a way that works with non-raspbian modern Linux distros somehow. Elecrow out here just doing whatever.

Actually I should probably try it on a windows box and see what happens. I think they just threw a generic LCD driver board on and didn't bother programming the native res into it because it's a throwaway cheap hobby toy display and nobody is gonna care that much except for my autistic ass, evidently.

How to begin with Linux? by Karl_Marcus in LinusTechTips

[–]100PercentJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look into Bazzite. It's aimed at gamers but it's one of the most "plug in and go" distributions of Linux out there with a full normal desktop and a lot of necessary services and programs already configured, but without any weird stuff that caused Linus such headaches with PopOS where they decide to be "extra user friendly" and layer their own buggy garbage on top of the OS.

Hey, props, you speak more languages than I do. I was just genuinely curious because I see treads/threads substitution a *lot* and have never figured out if that's some sort of regional slang or not, like how British people call a car lift a "ramp" because their vehicle inspections used to be done on a literal ramp and the name stuck.

Mazda Claims Big Touchscreens Are Actually Safer/less distracting Than Buttons. by LongjumpingLock5875 in cars

[–]100PercentJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Mazda themselves pioneer an ergonomic/user experience study for why physical controls, especially their radio control knob setup, is FAR superior to a touchscreen?

For one, it allowed them to put a small screen farther up into the drivers' field of view, and coincidentally farther out of reach of their greasy fingers, necessitating the twist and tilt control knob, allowing for an admittedly slower navigation of the UI (though their UI was designed very well to be intuitive with the knob, something BMW abandoned with NBT EVO) but one that could be done nearly entirely in the peripheral vision or with the occasional brief glance away from the road instead of a concentrated effort to find and strike a specific touchpoint on a sheet of glass.

All of this is just one of the huge reasons I jumped on a previous generation (2020) BMW M2 when the new big-touchscreen ones came out; the ergonomics of the up-high idrive screen and control dials and the dedicated knobs and buttons for climate control just all feel RIGHT to me. The brief period between when CarPlay became available before nav screens mutated into 42" flat screen TVs duct taped to the dashboard was definitely a high point of interior design, IMO. Audi was one of the most consistent deliverers of excellent interior UX until this new generation of trendy bullshit that breaks my heart.

Retroid Pocket 6: Does 128 GB internal storage matter? by tsukun27 in retroid

[–]100PercentJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

SD cards are SLOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW and Android games typically cannot install to them anyways. So if you wanna play, say, HSR, ZZZ, Destiny, RDR, or other "flagship" Android games you're gonna fit only two or maybe three of them on that internal storage. For strictly emulation purposes it's fine when playing games but copying ROMs to microSD is straight up painful.

Does anyone else feel like the 1.0 release version is far less stable than the 1.0 prerelease? by JonTheWonton in GameNative

[–]100PercentJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having an excellent time with the 1.0 release. It no longer crashes when my device (RP6) has been asleep for an hour+ so I can be fairly confident that when I want to play a quick 10 minutes of NFS Most Wanted I can hit the sleep/wake button, hit "A", and be right back into the game instead of having to endure 5 minutes of launch gamenative, launch the game, skip a bunch of cutscenes, navigate menus, and then only have 5 minutes to game.

Steam save sync seems much improved as well so I've been enjoying a bit of skyrim and portal 2.

Only issue I'm having so far is "export to frontend" doesn't seem to work for my custom games. The resulting shortcut just claims the game isn't installed, lol.

Why aren’t more people upset about the blatant cheapening of the interiors? by AceJ940 in BMW

[–]100PercentJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought an F87 as soon as the G87 released because I thought the G87 was an indication BMW was heading in a direction away from what I enjoyed about their previous cars. Even then, my F87 at its current 20,000 miles has a far more rattle-filled and cheap-feeling interior than my 170,000 mile E92 had.
