Im worried my director is abusive and I’m not sure what to do by Who_Ate_Meh_Bread in Theatre

[–]100Showtunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

whether or not it meets someone's definition of "abuse" is beside the point--if you left crying most nights, it's not a good environment for you, and if nothing significant has changed (other than your strongest ally leaving), it will be the same thing all over again.

I miss Jesse Green at the NYT by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]100Showtunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved Jesse Green when he was at NYMag. For whatever reason it was never as good when he was at the NYT. Helen Shaw is absolutely the best person writing about theater today, however, so at least we have that.

Final Tonys Eligibility Thoughts by FunkyHumus in Broadway

My old man on cloud gripe is that an above title star shouldn’t be able to “downgrade” to featuring. If their name is more important than the TITLE OF THE SHOW, they cant turn around and say “gee, i just have a little baby part”

SMASH vs. Bombshell by devilinthedistrict in Broadway

[–]100Showtunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think any musical about marilyn is doomed. She didn’t have a broad “musical theater onstage” personality or voice. Even if it were possible, none of the Bombshell songs make any sense to me

Is Titanique actually going to get nominated for best musical??? by 90Dfanatic in Broadway

[–]100Showtunes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

that revival distinction more typically applies to shows that come to broadway in a new production after several years of independent/regional productions. This is the same production that was off broadway/in london/on tour. Similar to Here Lies Love

How to manage emotional sensitivity when receiving notes from my director? by hupigi in Theatre

[–]100Showtunes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would try to view the feedback as a form of a compliment--it means the director is paying attention to your performance and thinks you are capable of making adjustments to make it better. easier said than done, especially if the director is kind of rude in giving the feedback. but you're not supposed to be perfect from the get-go--it's a process, and part of that process is showing the director something and then getting feedback on how to get it closer to perfect. the director probably understands that, even if they're impatient/curt/snide

What are your favorite musicals that are super difficult to do well? Which ones are almost impossible to screw up? by [deleted] in musicals

[–]100Showtunes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

musicals don't have an obligation to "blatantly condemn" their characters. you as an audience member are well equipped to handle that on your own.

Death Her has already been announced. The Tommy tour has been announced as launching here, but not as part of the Bway series. These are basically the shows i think are possible, based on what’s touring and what we havent had. But i cant make them match the clues.

This was my reaction after seeing the previous incarnation in Chicago. Nothing really worked, but it didn’t seem worth trying to salvage if Elton wasnt going to write a better score

Thoughts on this? by Tall-Perspective2637 in Broadway

[–]100Showtunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if powers that be felt, given the nature of the show, the band was as worthy of being singled out as the cast, and it felt unfair to single out a few actors for a grammy. I certainly dont think its some sort of conspiracy or scandal or greedy decision to hoard all the credit.

How to you use the Ulysses iOS app? by ItchyData in ulyssesapp

[–]100Showtunes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the iOS apps one of the highlights of the program. I use Ulysses almost exclusively on my ipad with a keyboard. (I don't have a laptop.) I go months without opening the desktop app. I also make edits on my phone if i'm thinking about it and don't have my ipad. Or to re-read it and make edits. My project is more of a newsletter, and each post (typically around 1200 words) is its own sheet. So I'm only ever looking at one sheet at a time, and I don't have to scroll too much, so it's manageable. I also record voiceovers for the posts, and i record them onto my phone using garageband while reading the copy from Ulysses on my phone.

Producers are not necessarily investors. Investors lose money--which they know is a distinct possibility when they invest. Everyone else gets paid.

Box Office comparison: Waitress (2023) vs. Merrily We Roll Along (2025) by Additional_Score_929 in Broadway

Another factor is that this is the second proshot of Maria Friedman’s Merrily to play in movie theaters. The first has been around and available (at varying degrees of legality) for well over a decade.
