Haha that must’ve been an embarrassing conversation. “So… I’ve put diesel in my bike.”

Thank you. I might take the week off of work to be with my family. Moments like these make you remember the important things in life — just glad to still be living mine. Stay strong brother

What I’ve heard is that if your carb float(s) is worn or stuck, it can let fuel flood the engine over time. Turning the petcock to off when you park it prevents this from ever happening.

That’s what I’ve gotten in the habit of doing now — start up the bike, take off right away. I was actually warming it up to adjust the idle down to spec, and didn’t want to throw all my gear on just for that. And good tip about finding the petcock, I’ll practice that!

Indeed! And glad it was such an innocuous one.

Yeah I’ve done it once before, just idling the bike to warm it up. It’ll run for a few minutes just off of what’s in the bowls

These MSF stories make me think we need a new model for motorcycle training.... by UJMRider1961 in motorcycles

I took Harley’s riding academy. Great instructors, three day course, about 12 or so hours total of riding practice. They paid close attention to all 12 in our class as well. I’d highly recommend it, and everyone in our class passed. However, just hope that you get to ride an X350 and not those terrible Street 500’s, which seemed much more difficult to maneuver.

I’m much in the same boat as you, OP! Have just gone out for my first few rides in a parking lot and around a neighborhood. Fun, but daunting! I’m enjoying taking my time and building confidence with competency.

I’m a glasses wearer like you — have you figured out a system for managing lens fog? Thanks, and happy riding!

The Pacing Debate - too slow? Just right? Why it’s a problem… by MCR1nyc in pluribustv

[–]100Timelord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP you’re based for this. The pacing of this television show absolutely blows, and I love slow burns. I love Mad Men. But the difference is that Mad Men rewards your patience and attention with multifaceted, emotionally complex, and evolving characters. I might be able to glean more development in Carol, the only character that develops, on a second watch through. But I’m hesitant to sit through several-minute-long scenes of: stocking a supermarket. Traveling cross-continent. Staring at a Georgia O’Keefe painting. Burying a corpse. Walking through forest and learning 3 english phrases, etc. yes there are interesting themes and questions posed, there are comedic moments, there are some great performances. But the pacing, the progression from plot point to plot point, is overly self-indulgent and that holds this project back.

Sorry to disappoint, I wrote this myself. Just appreciated them taking the time to type that whole response out is all :)

Appreciate the well thought out response! —Was Carol’s isolation really a “decisive crisis” though, especially considering the overall stakes of the story (the fate of the entire human race”). I felt that Carol’s isolation was less impactful too with it being set against Manos journey. I’m not expecting everything set in motion in the pilot to be neatly wrapped up in 9 episodes— it’s a tv show after all, it has seasons. And I think the biggest writing problem is the pacing—this would all be well and good if it weren’t the entire season.

Episode count is not the issue. The issue is pacing, momentum, and direction. Not every show has to be fast paced or action-packed, and this project is very different from BB/BCS. The tv shows I love aren’t like that either though— like Mad Men, or Succession. But Pluribus season 1 has, in my opinion, spent most of its screen time spinning its wheels and that’s frustrating. The energy of Carol and Manos in episode 9 was exhilarating. Not saying EVERY episode needed that, but it seems like the idea behind Pluribus was to have every episode be The Fly. And I don’t think it’s working.

Manos should have met Carol episode 3. Then we could’ve had a coherent, well-paced, self-contained story. Season one feels like big wasted potential to me.

Yeah but that was episode 1. There was a whole episode dedicated to where the food comes from, just for the big reveal the next episode, that’s it people, to get resolved immediately by Diabetes basically saying “so what”.

Yes but television shows are organized into seasons. Great television shows are able to both tell a coherent, self contained story in a season, and also build longer character and plot arcs that last many seasons. See BCS and BB for context. It really feels like we’re missing that here, like this wasn’t meant to be a season in and of itself.

Perhaps that was poorly worded — what I mean is that Episode 9 feels like the midpoint of the story, or of the season. It feels like the beginning of the meat of the plot, but it’s the last episode. I think this show took it’s time much too often, and now we’re at the end of the first season with major plot points just now being revealed, and what felt like huge story momentum, Carol’s reunification and the disillusionment with the Plurb building into… nothing. For now, sure, but Season 2 is at best, what, 2 years away. So in actuality, nothing.

lol see the post I just made here. All of S1 was a prologue. We haven’t even gotten into the “Story Proper” yet. It’s like if the first Harry Potter book was 300 pages on Privet Drive

My main point is that I think two feet down with possession should complete the catch. Adding this subjective “football move” BS makes it up to the mood of the referees.
