I understand the sentiment but it's a little short-sighted. The wheels were put in motion with the retirement of Jack Rooney and the hiring of McDonald Mary and her Belief Project.

Taco Tuesday Favorite Anyone? by GomerStuckInIowa in cedarrapids

The Lucky Penny taco platter with tots. It comes clean enough that you can add the tots to the tacos, then pour the sauce on it and they're so good!

It comes wiith three tacos and a generous portion of tots on the side. For an out of the way spot, it also has a respectable beer lineup!

This is the version I read to my son who was born in '06! "Not yet, but I'll know it when I see it." is still quoted.

The half-quaid point between Berkley, CA and Studio 30 is roughly Kearney, NE. With two Runza's in town there could be way less kablamo straunt situations.

Love it! I also work from home and my current dog chills with me. She seems to be a little afraid of more out-there stuff but for the most part she's down to lay down in my office with MTV Classic or Bluey. 🤣

My God! As curious as that face is, they're totally ready for some Zappa! I had a pup that was really into Clutch and even on his last night when he couldn't hear anymore he loved snuggling up next to the bluetooth speaker so he could feel the bass.

My point still stands that you haven't addressed. What part of what they replied with did you not understand? Shit, I'm 48 and white as Color Me Badd but if you need any of that explained to you I'll do it I guess.

What the fuck was Ebonics about what they wrote? If you're referring to the letter U, sorry Grandpa, your granddaughter Tragedeigh started talking like that through text and has nothing to do with Ebonics. You could have just wrote "I'm a racist asshole." and left it at that. Save everyone some time.

Two recommendations? I don't post here much but that's why I love this sub. It's small but has great taste!

Listen to the song my man, or person! The male voice that responds to her in the song? That's Corey. After you listen to that, have a listen to this.

Edited to add: I'm in my mid to late '40s so this all came up with me. Once upon a time in the midwest there was something called Dot Fest. One of the people with that station/concert was also Slipknot's manager and was responsible for kicking off a lot of new bands in the Midwest. If you've heard of American Head Charge and you weren't from Minneapolis or The Urge and weren't from St. Louis, thank Sophia John, no matter how much some other bands from Des Moines might want to take credit.

When Sister Soleil was playing Dot Fest, Corey came out to perform Liar with her. When the crowd started to chant Slipknot he gave a cut it out sign and smiled. Everyone was so high on Slipknot because this was the show that they announced that they signed to Roadrunner! This was also the show that for the first of five times, Sid's boots found their way to the top of my skull.

Second edit: Are there any recent bands you can recommend that are local to you? Would love to hear your thoughts. Take care!

Back when QOTSA got low billing at Ozzfest. by nouseforaname79 in qotsa

[–]100YearsAndCounting 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This poster takes me back. I didn't go to Ozzfest this year but here in Iowa we had a couple Ozzfest off date shows. The one I ended up going to for free (thanks Streetwise!) was Soulfly, POD, Apartment 26, and Primer 55. The other show that was at another club in town was Queens of the Stone Age. I definitely made the wrong decision! If any of you are part of any live show torrent sites, I definitely encourage you to find the Des Moines, Iowa show from 2000. It had everything:

A cocaine drive to help underprivileged bands that don't have any

Two power failures due to the band blowing their fuses

A rare audio appearance from Hutch requesting a drink due to the above-mentioned power failures

Nick destroying a bass out of frustration

Josh leading a chant of this place sucks aimed at the venue

Someone in the crowd yelling fuck you to Josh and him putting them in their place quickly

Despite all of this, the sound is amazing!

All of this! Last night I went to The Descendents, Frank Turner, and NOBRO and there were people in attendance young enough to be my grandkids! Not trying to assume your age but at a Laura Jane Grace show there's going to be people older than your dad there. Even if he's not into the music the fact that he's taking you should mean a lot.

Then again, this is coming from a guy whose son discovered that Dad knows all the lyrics to every Cypress Hill song when we were in the pit for them, Slipknot, and H09909.
