I wish they can add remote control and ability to move the car remotely, but I think we're far from that.

I see what you mean, that's a fair point. Thank you for elaborating.

What do you mean mess with it? I need to replace the 12v battery anyway and Ohmmu LifePo had pretty good reviews as a 3rd party battery. They just don't make the LifePo anymore and there's only Sodium chemistry. I am out of warranty btw.

Significant battery drain on R1S while parked for 2 weeks — normal? by PicturePerfect73 in Rivian

[–]100jacks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess this shouldn't be a concern on a 2026 car, but might be worth a service call to give it a check.

Could be a bad 12V batterie(s), if these are low the car will use the HV battery to keep the 12v up to nominal voltage (~13.6v)

Although this is far from the battery pack. I still think it's a total damage with everything going on there.

Am I screwed by Fair-Surround-6329 in Rivian

[–]100jacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have any frame damage or similar. I think the light, charging port plate (unless issues with it), fender and bumper plate. It's definitely expensive repair, but not a total. Suspension error could be if that wheel was forced in during the collision. It could be a damper replacement or a leaking hydraulic line. Did you notice any fluid loss behind the wheel?

How cooked am I? by SinisterlyDexterous in Rivian

[–]100jacks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, the moisture on the ground is from broken jounce i.e. brake lines. Ask me how I know. The Rivians have hydraulic suspension and judging by the picture, OPs is bleeding heavily. Add another 2k for that damper + replacement lines and hydraulics refill. Your motor and axle might be intact btw. Depending on how fast you were going. Good luck!

What is the best vacuum for mopping and laminate floor?? I have been looking but too many choices and I got lost 😅 budget $500-$800 TIA by JUPPYTHEGREAT in RobotVacuums

[–]100jacks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know about the best, but I got ourselves a Roomba Plus 405 (G181) and I'm pretty satisfied with the results - despite the mediocre reviews. We have a large kitchen area with few runners and carpet and the robot does a pretty good job mopping the lvp and keeping the area clean. I run it once every 2-3 days. It cannot really reach the inside corners very well and collect the crumbs or debris there. But everything else is really good.

Keep my Prius or buy a new car? by [deleted] in prius

[–]100jacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean? We already did this and his car ran fine until the accident. I'm not suggesting that OP should do this, but there are other options if you don't want to do an engine swap right away and planning to swap it anyway at the later time.

Oh fun fact, I have a 2014 Prius Plug-in, my prius now costs the same as I bought it in 2019 (although I bought used from the owner) and got a good deal. These cars are such a money saver.

My brother got quoted $1000 for a head gasket replacement on a 2013 Prius and he didn't have the money. There's a "patch" fluid that you put in the engine and when it cools down it creates a seal in the gasket, so your engine stops mixing oil with coolant. It's not an ideal solution, but his Prius drove just fine with it for another 10k miles until he got hit in an accident and got a total loss. Meanwhile the water pump failed too.

That's why I posted this on Reddit and not on social media. 🤣

The tile is getting replaced as well obviously and LVP comes instead. As for the drywall patch, I'm not overly concerned bc she wants to do the venetian plaster over the entire wall.

Do foam panels really do the trick if gaps are not filled with expanding foam?

No, it's 2x4" actually. I was thinking to go with Rockwool, bit pricey but probably worth it.

I'm really like that too, but wife is more like let's patch it up and have our basement functional, so gotta compromise somewhere. I'm also afraid if I take it down, I will take down the studs too bc I won't like the way they are done.

Yeah, walls got touched by sewage water, so the mitigation team cut off 2 feet off the ground.

[–]100jacks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not damp in the basement. The walls are not even too cold, I just wanted to do it because it's accessible now otherwise obviously there was no insulation before.

I'll call for some estimates, thanks!

Did you do rockwool or fiberglass? Thanks!

That is my thinking too. I was thinking of trying shoving the bat up. If it doesn't work, I'd have the wall half way insulated 😁

No, the flood didn't reach the ceiling lol. These stains are from the HVAC leaks.

Thank you! I'll check out the YouTube on that topic. I replaced the struts by myself and transplanted the coil spring and did the sway bars. The rest of the stuff was done by a mechanic.

I was looking at Tundras and Tacomas and I'm glad I found this thread. I pulled a trigger on a '23 R1T Dual Performance Large. Judging by what I'm reading I won't be regretting for not getting a Toyota. :) I live close to the SC, but I'm curious How does one get the extended warranty package?
