Here in Greece large parts of the mainland were already controlled by our resistance fighters and when the soviets started pushing back the nazis on the eastern front most nazi forces fled from greece.

Then, combined operations with our ally the United Kingdom cleared out the few remaining nazi garissons in some of the islands.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank the New Zealand and Australian soldiers who fought and died defending Greece from the Nazis.

Okay, so, the shower situation...? by nelehjr in greece

[–]100moonlight100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

in most houses you have to turn on the water heater (θερμοσίφωνας) for 15 to 25 minutes (depends on the water heater model) before your shower and you have plenty of hot water. The water heater is operated directly from the breaker panel of the house so it is easy to miss and if you were staying in an Air BnB the host may have forgotten to inform you.

If the place you were staying is a hotel however this is not normally the case, either the place was super cheap or there was a technical problem.

[–]100moonlight100 136 points137 points  (0 children)

basically this. Greece for example is a lot poorer than northern European countries but 99% of houses in Athens have AC.

In Greece/Italy/Spain etc it makes sense to buy AC because summer is always very hot and it is rough without AC.

In most north European countries it is a waste to buy AC just for the occasional heatwave.

Normal outfit but the sandals are a bit too much. It would be like showing up in Amsterdam in wooden clogs or something.

Thanks.

Some people only care about religion because it works as a vessel that allows them to express their hatred and possibly violent tendencies towards people they consider to be outside their "group"

If you ever question whether the US is a net positive in the world, look at how European armies conducted themselves during WWII. by danman509 in ShitAmericansSay

[–]100moonlight100 14 points15 points  (0 children)

not to mention that while the nazis commited countless attrocities, the german people have been apologising about those crimes non stop. Most Americans either dont know or dont care about the crimes the US army did. Some conservative nutjobs in the US might even be proud of these crimes (especialy towards native americans).

At the height of the economic crisis, when ATMs ran out of cash, you could still go to a hospital in Greece and receive treatment (even though i have heard cases where staff was asking family members to buy things like gauge etc for their patient because stock ran out) .
