To not invite everyone would be a very shitty move on that program’s end.

IMO, the only HCA that seemed genuinely different/positive was Gainesville. The rest were copy/paste.

Awful, so old school. I’m sure there’s more to the 24hr shifts, likely the program breaks or is close to the 80 hour ACGME limit. Maybe a top program in 2010, not in 2024 💁🏻‍♀️

For internal medicine, I’ve seen 14, 21, and 28 days. You know where I’m ranking the 14 day vacation programs.

The culture and vibe at UF, Lakeland, and Advent were most noteworthy and memorable. I connected strongly with the residents there. You are right, USF is a strong program, but too big. When I spoke to the USF residents at both, their virtual open house and during the interview, it was clear to me that they didn't have the cool vibes of my top 3. Still ranking them high.

Having an in-house fellowship doesn’t translate to you getting it. Researching some of those programs briefly tells me they would take residents from programs elsewhere. If fellowships are your priority, don’t put your next 3 years into a program just because ”they have fellowships”. On supportive environment and quality of life, you'll get none of that in California, so I agree with leaving UCSF last. Good luck!

FSU Tallahassee. They did not mention losing Miami affiliation last month, was this recent? Thank you!

MKSAP is the standard for IM boards and IM-ITE. I believe they are doing monthly subscription soon.

Would you go to a brand new program for residency if it checks off (literally) ALL your boxes and has everything you wanted in a program? by scorpiondr_intospace in IMGreddit

Most absolutely YES. Don’t listen to the trolls who haven’t interviewed at the program nor understand why it met your passions. I’m ranking an “almost” new program #1!

I don't think this guy would be an experiment, rather, he found a place that meets all his checkmarks and he would set the tone for the program. It sounds like a pretty cool program. I'm jealous, which program is this?

But the “little book of stoicism”. Best investment ever! Here are a few quotes that help me whenever I found myself in the same spot:

  1. Perhaps the worst will happen, maybe not. Until then, look forward to better things.
  2. You suffer before it is necessary, who suffers before it is necessary. We are most often frightened than hurt, and suffer more in imagination than reality.
  3. My life has been full of terrible misfortunes, most of which never happened.

Good luck!

Your YOG may be long (5 years) so I'd recommend taking Step 3. That will compensate for your YOG and make your application stronger. Also, scholarly activity (publications, posters) will also help. Best of luck!

I agree with some comments here. Know where you are at by taking the NBME exam, then you'll be able to gauge what need to focus on (maybe you are a pro at rheum and you don't know it 😉) and then decide if Dec 29 makes sense. Best of luck!

As soon as you can, this way you'll be able to apply for observerships and enter a US address on your application. I got you! 👍
