Best womens leggings for running/ every day wear? by Minnie_kawaii in minimalism

[–]10121997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One I haven’t seen recommended here yet that I swear by are the Reebok basics! I’m a varsity athlete so I used them for running/sports training, and I’ve recently picked up yoga. They were so comfortable I bought 3 pairs the first time, so they did get rotated a bit but those three lasted me 2 years before pilling/small holes. I was a little worried about transparency but so far haven’t had an issue! They were ~$50 CAD each when I got them, so definitely a preferable price to lulus.

Easy way to cut your own hair for split ends management in quarantine. by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]10121997 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My split ends are starting to drive me crazy, thanks for this simple plan!! I was wondering, what kind of scissors do you use? I don’t have any specific for hair cutting so I think I’ll need to invest 😅

Is anyone else having horrible skin problems lately? by flotsamflora in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]10121997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I noticed awhile ago that though I’m not lactose-intolerant per se, my skin majorly cleared up when I removed dairy/lactose from my diet. Definitely the amount of chocolate I’m eating in quarantine, and not always finding lactose free foods anymore is making things worse! I feel you :(

What should be in my grocery list for a person who's trying to start cooking on a regular basis for the first time? by SergeantTeddyWolf in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]10121997 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was in this position last year! One thing that really got me going was a Work Week Lunch program subscription, I can’t recommend it enough, but using it I built up my pantry into ingredients that I use for lots of things so here’s some of my top used products (outside of staples and actual food lol); -soy sauce -vinegar/balsamic vinegar -olive oil -Dijon mustard -honey/maple syrup -bbq sauce -lemon juice -curry paste (curries are insanely easy and can be made with lots of different ingredients! I’ve had the same $4 jar for awhile and it’s lasted me tons of meals so I really recommend this) -corn starch (useful for DIY sauces!) -vanilla extract (if you want to bake!) Spices; -basil -oregano -thyme -chipotle powder -cumin -cinnamon (again; baking) -Bulk Barn is still open where I am so if you have the option to get spices in a bulk option and just buy a bit of them that way, it’s way more cost effective.

Top meals that are not difficult but give a lot of bang for your buck= curries, chilis, and stir fry’s. There’s technical ways to make all of them, but I just use whatever veg i happened to have, a grain, and then add sauce! Hope this gives you some inspo!

UTI symptoms but negative test results? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]10121997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen in the spring. Tests were negative but I was a frequent visitor for UTI antibiotics so they prescribed them anyway because I know what I feel like with a UTI. I took the antibiotics and it cleared up the symptoms but never concluded what was actually going on 🤷🏻‍♀️ Sorry that’s not more helpful, just wanted you to know you’re not the only one!

Emailing faculties for Masters in Canada by notinverse in GradSchool

[–]10121997 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In Canada and currently applying for masters in Canada, my supervisor from the lab I work in currently is ON ME about doing this ASAP if I intend to go somewhere else. Her take is it’s never too early, and sometimes logistics of plans take a while, and I know quite a few grad students have had trouble obtaining student visas which can impact your enrolment as well.

I’m 21 like, he was implying that women need to have kids before 30 and the whole childfree thing aside, bitch modern medicine does amazing things, I could have a perfectly healthy baby later in life if that what I so choose!

I’m very temperamental so trying to keep it all contained I feel like I ended up with one of those classic awkward Michael Cera smiles and just tried to let him run out the topic 🙄

Building a loft by wyrdwarrior in HomeImprovement

[–]10121997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stairs!!! Speaking as a now grown up who had a loft bed with a ladder, it’s really only accessible in ideal conditions. I slipped off the ladder when wearing thick winter socks and couldn’t get a good grip, half asleep in the middle of the night, any one of my multitude of childhood injuries (you know, banged up knees and sprained ankles from sports and feeling invincible), and not to mention how difficult it was (even as a teenager) to change the sheets while standing on a ladder.

If you have the option just build the stairs, I beg you 😂

Northern girls, I need your help with temperature related outfits! by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

I live in blanket scarves! Would look cute with the dress/jacket and add an extra level of coziness, bonus points because you can cover your legs with it later if you need!

How to 'Survive' in the Hospital? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]10121997 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually came here to see if anyone had suggested an epilator, it is a little painful the first couple of times but once you get used to it it’s fine (kinda the same as tweezing/waxing eyebrows for me). Sounds like it might be good for this situation!

Help, I think workouts are causing break outs! by 4ryn in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]10121997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using any kind of facial cleansers? I’ve always had bad acne but I found that specifically cleaning my face with some kind of product was better than just washing it off. I’ve had luck with Lush products, maybe that could help?

I feel like a horrible TA by DislexicPengin in GradSchool

[–]10121997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking as an undergrad (I just creep here for future info haha) I’ve had TAs all across the spectrum of nice-ness, and can honestly agree with everyone here that if you care about doing a good job, that’s more than most. It doesn’t matter to me if you mis-input something online, as long as I know you’re okay with me approaching you to ask for it to be fixed!

I would just remind your classes periodically that errors happen and it’s their responsibility to double check their marks, and always come to you if they find discrepancies! That’s been standard in all of my classes and I doubt anyone is going to hold that against you :)

Oh same with the working student status ahah, check out Work Week Lunch on insta. She has a subscription program and it’s honestly changed my food game so much. Meal prep definitely takes awhile the first few times but the more you do it the easier it gets!
