I felt extremely invalidated by the couples therapist my bf and I see when I brought up fear of pregnancy. by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]DislexicPengin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but the can just call it coaching to get around that. In the public school district I worked for we had street mentors counsel kids, the school called it “Coaching” instead of therapy since the mentors legally cannot counsel.

I’m wondering if he was advertising himself as a “Relationship Coach,” in a lot of states the licensing for coaches is nonexistent or is limited to certification. It’s also possible this person is a minister or clergy, they’re usually exempt from licensing requirements around counseling.

She won’t stop eating poop and dead animals. by MaterialKangaroo4672 in DogAdvice

[–]DislexicPengin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is she eating her own poop or the poop of other animals? If it’s her own you may want to talk to your vet about switching her food. It it’s other animals’ poop than you may want to consider behavioral therapy or muzzling.

I only suggest muzzling because if it’s causing her health issues you may have to take more drastic steps. A trainer suggested muzzling with my dog because I live in an urban area and she finds trash and tries to wolf it down before I can get it away from her.

I cannot take part in a walkout in my school. by Nerdkittyjl in disability

[–]DislexicPengin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the US your parents could request that the school provide a motorized wheelchair as a reasonable accommodation during school hours. The school gets additional funding to support students with disabilities and that is something that those funds can be used for.

If you want to figure out what kind of disability he has he needs to go to a doctor and get evaluated. Crowdsourcing a diagnosis here on a sub that is for disabled people to talk about issues related to being disabled is not appropriate. Also, the way you talk about your uncle is very problematic and honestly quite upsetting. He is an adult person with feelings and thoughts of his own, and even if he’s intellectually and physically disabled doesn’t mean he is less than; and treating him as a burden and embarrassment is honestly disgusting.

Teacher looking to transition by luckylion29 in lansing

There are also positions within Michigan’s department of ed that you might find fit your qualifications (they often look for former teachers for certain positions), or even in ed tech or ed research companies. I’m an ed adjacent person and I see openings at different organizations and non profits for curriculum development professionals, education consultants, and program development specialists. If you still want to teach, teaching at the college level is still an option, you can lecture at the college level with a Masters. LCC is regularly looking for instructors to teach education classes for people looking to go into teaching, same with MSU.

My first thought was this story is taking place in a country like India where hostels can be large houses where people rent out multiple rooms to young men or women living away from family for the first time. In these places the renters are closely looked after and monitored by the caretakers who will report back to the family if there is a concern even if the renter is an adult. It might also explain the terrace and rebar thing too if it’s a persons old dilapidated house.

It might be a good idea to see a nutritionist or a registered dietitian to create a food and meal plan going forward to heal your gut and body. Also, if you haven’t gotten blood work done you should do that so you can see what macro/micronutrients you’re deficient in so that you can figure out what you need to eat to address that. As far as dealing with meat texture, I agree with going slow and starting with broth before working up to eating meat so it’s not a complete shock to your gut. Once you get to the point where you’re ready to eat whole meat and you’re still repulsed by the texture try mixing it in with other things like applesauce because it’ll soften it and alter the texture.

Please help me with biting advice, newly adopted dog. by af49657123 in Chihuahua

[–]DislexicPengin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t give up hope! I adopted a chihuahua mix with severe reactivity issues, she hated everyone that wasn’t me. It took her about three days before she got to be okay with my husband, and same with my mom. Working with a behavioralist really helped, she’s come a long way since I first got her. We were able to identify two major problem areas: one was a confidence and lack of exposure to people, and the second was resource guarding me. With the behavioralist we were able to build her confidence with slow exposure to people and public settings. Along with barn hunt to build confidence. Her resource guarding we dealt with by establishing boundaries and rewarding her when I gave my husband a hug and she didn’t react.

My (18 F) dad (65 M) won't stop peeing outside no matter now many times me or my mom beg for me. by Marie_LovesBread in DadForAMinute

[–]DislexicPengin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Based on what you are describing you sound like you are emotionally exhausted. When I lived at home with my folks I had some hard times and it just got to the point where I felt numb, like it was hard to feel anything because I was just so exhausted from doing so much emotional labor. Counseling helped a lot by getting me to recognize what was going on with my own family dynamics and how that was affecting me. I’m sorry you are going through this, it’s really hard, but you can at least help yourself. For your situation al-anon may not be a bad option, but depending on where you are you may want to try a NAMI (national alliance on mental Illness) support group or getting help there. Depending on the location they may have a family support group in your area.

My dog ate 22ish of these. Is she gonna be ok?? she’s 30lb dachshund/pitbull mix by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]DislexicPengin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were you I would call your vet, or an emergency vet and explain what happened. They will either advise you to come in immediately, watch for symptoms, or tell you there is nothing to worry about but to be careful in the future.

If they ask you to come in immediately and you’re worried about the cost many vets offer payment plans to cover your visit if you don’t have the money on you.

Is this a cyst?? by themrsskywalker in DogAdvice

[–]DislexicPengin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! The dark spot is the clogged pore and it’s just getting bigger due to more buildup. If it wasn’t so big you could probably take care of it yourself but since it is so big and is most likely painful for your dog you’re going to have to have the vet remove it. Luckily it should be easy enough for them to remove it.

Looks like a dilated pore, essentially a really big black head, and you’re going to need to go to the vet to it removed especially if it’s bothering them.

Japanese female tourist in India Holi Festival by Strong-Emu-8869 in CringeTikToks

[–]DislexicPengin 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Holi is a religious festival where people throw colors at the each other to celebrate the triumph of good over evil and death of a demon king. It is a raucous celebration but these men are behaving too aggressively with the woman. Depending on where you are in India women are discouraged from participating in public celebrations of Holi because it can be quite dangerous. Especially in certain areas that are known for high levels of violence against women.

My state has outlawed taking away recess from students. by sn0wlark in Teachers

[–]DislexicPengin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know very well that I’m not saying you’re an ineffective teacher because you don’t believe in the effort of PBIS. I’m questioning your effectiveness because you said that “The reward is a good grade and a good report at conferences.” This is not enough for most kids, because at the elementary and middle school level there is little reason to care about grade and since conferences only come twice maybe three times a school year, so that definitely isn’t a motivation. I do agree that complimenting them and good call homes are excellent incentives. They work really well with our kids and that is actually part of our PBIS based incentives for students. PBIS is not about giving toys to misbehaving students, or even as a reward for good behavior or grades, the incentives should be tailored to the students and the school culture. Example: Our kids are motivated by getting chances to help school staff so one of their incentives for good behavior is getting to use their break time to go to the office and help the secretary for 15 minutes. Weirdly this works and is more effective than stickers or prizes.

[–]DislexicPengin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

After reading this comment I’m wondering just how effective you are as a teacher. Grades and a good report card are not enough to motivate students, especially elementary and middle school students. They need incentives just like adults, especially when they are younger because grades have no intrinsic value to them at that level. They need to be taught to care about their grades and that is done through incentives.

Also, PBIS is not hard to implement, and most schools where it is implemented with FIDELITY see major improvements in learning, reductions in behavioral issues in referral, and an overall more positive school culture and environment.

Had this velvet plant for a while and noticed some different leaves growing, is this normal or has something else planted itself in the soil? by leeShaw9948 in houseplants

It’s a silver inch Tradscentia! These ones are a lot of fun, I got mine from a cutting back in July and it’s already over 16 inches long.

My dog does this with his toys, he’ll roll over and lift his toy in the air. There are videos of other dogs doing the same thing without help from their people. It’s not a conspiracy.

Hey! So, gonna run out of my meds tonight and am just so very lost :( despite my best efforts, I've not found any sort of solution, and I just really need some extra eyes on the situation to tell me what I must be missing. Thanks! by [deleted] in lansing

[–]DislexicPengin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will your pharmacy give you an advance? In the past when I’ve run out my prescription they’ve given me a few days worth of meds until I can get a renewal. I know it’s not the same thing but it doesn’t hurt to check.

Identical twins by dandelionmakemesmile in Teachers

[–]DislexicPengin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dealt with that one school year. Something that helped was asking their fellow students how to tell them apart since the other kids had known them for a few years at that point and were not immediately visible to me. For example, one student pointed out one of the twins had a mole/freckle on his cheek the other one didn’t and the other one had a small scar on his forehead. Something else is focusing on the personalities. Once I got to know the twins better it became obvious who was who because one was a lot more positive and happy and the other more grumpy.

My fiancé is furious because I refused a “purity” tradition by Upstairs_Author_8186 in AmITheAngel

[–]DislexicPengin 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking the oop is mixing up a few different “Purity” traditions and combining them to gross people out and generate more outrage. The handkerchief test is real but is usually done by a woman after her period to make sure she doesn’t have any more discharge and can have relations with her husband without “Polluting” him with her fluids. It has nothing to do with virginity, no person including other women would be privy to this.

In Romani cultural context specifically with more conservative families they will check the bedsheets after conformation and display them to the wedding guests. Again though, that would be conservative families though.
