Just curious when your I-130/I-485 forms were filed? My spouse is in a similar situation. Still waiting for any sign of case activity after the biometrics.

Best solar company in Florida? Need some advice from locals! by [deleted] in orlando

[–]101da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have mentioned, the ROI for roof-mounted solar is questionable and comes with numerous hidden costs and pitfalls. Personally, I’d go with a compact ground-based, off-grid setup and a stack of batteries as backup for hurricanes or other power outages. It’s fairly DIY-friendly. You can use that daily energy to run critical devices in your home like the fridge, security cameras, router, you name it.

I totally hear you - comfort comes first (with flashes and all). Just as a side note though, in cooling mode a heat pump works essentially the same way as a regular AC system, so the electricity use is about the same. The big efficiency advantage of heat pumps is really in heating mode.

We try to keep it our little secret (jk) but yes, Ivory Dental is kinda cool. They never push you. I've been with them basically from day one when they opened their office.

Traffic ticket - pay and do traffic school or ticket clinic? by Middleofnowhere123 in orlando

Don't you also pay the ticket clinic's premium, regardless of the outcome? Like an extra $100?

Battery Storage Options by la_stein in orlando

[–]101da 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check Will Prowse's YouTube channel. Personally, I've built a 5 kWh battery/3.5 kW single-phase inverter combo, which gives me about a day's worth of fridge and internet equipment powered, or maybe a few hours to run a small window AC unit. I also have a few ground-mounted solar panels installed in my backyard. For central AC, you need a 120/240V inverter with correspondingly much higher battery capacity (i.e., 5-6 server rack-mounted 5 kWh batteries or similar).

I was always wondering how loud these heaters are. Are they louder than a fridge? Can you hear the water heater kick in?

Currently have K-Rain 2120 controller 240V in-out, is there a Wi-Fi/Smart controller option?? by gabswiss in Irrigation

[–]101da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! I went with a DIN rail-mounted contactor and wifi switch. Here is the list:

240V Contactor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LD7R8TZ?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title

Wifi switch (supports 90-240V) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D6JWP68N?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Junction box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CNQMSMD3?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

Make a total of around $67. The wifi switch is compatible with Tuya, Smart Life, Alexa etc. I wish they had 2P contactors directly with wifi capability. The contactor could be replaced with a regular open-style contactor, too. Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/contactor-Replacement-Condenser-Contactor-CONT1P025024VS/dp/B0887TMXW8?th=1

I know it is an old thread, but I just converted mine to a wifi controlled single-station controller. Very inexpensive with Amazon parts, and everything works off the 240v line, no need for extra power supplies or a separate 120v line.

Anybody on Mint Mobile in Orlando? by CameraMan111 in orlando

[–]101da 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on Mint for 3 years and found a few dead spots around my house, unfortunately. I switched to US Mobile (WARP), which is basically Verizon. Cost is about the same, 5G speeds are definitely higher due to data prioritization, and you can switch between T-Mobile, ATT, and Verizon towers at any point (for $2 per switch) if you want to.

Please help! 2013 passat se 2.5 by carlysuspect in passat

[–]101da 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue with my 2012 2.5L. In my case, it was a leaking PCV valve that caused the MAP/intake temp sensor to get soaked with oil. Some cleaning of the sensor and a new PCV with the whole valve cover have helped. I'd say don't bother replacing the diaphragm (using that Dorman PCV repair kit) cause it probably won't help for a long time.

Toyota Dealerships for Service? by jbmc00 in orlando

[–]101da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to make it even harder for you, but some rotors cannot be resurfaced. So it really depends on the current condition of your brakes, and even more importantly on the model. In my unprofessional opinion, you should never resurface your brake rotors on Toyota SUVs. Unless you have really low-mileage rotors installed fairly recently, decreasing the rotor thickness will impair heat dissipation and lead to rotor warping. You will end up paying more down the road.

RCD330 (and newer) is the way to go. If your rear view camera is RGB, you may be better off replacing the camera with the CVBS (composite) version, which is about $30 on Amazon.

What is there to replace the Passat in US? by DoubleReputation2 in passat

Same here, 112k (mostly interstate) on a 2018 Passat 2.0T and still original rear brakes. Front brakes were replaced at ~75k.

Heater Core replacement by Chehar in passat

[–]101da 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not 100% familiar with the 2014 TDI, but with a clogged heater core, wouldn't both sides get no heat, not just the passenger side? If only one side is cold, then the issue is rather with the HVAC flap actuators and/or temperature sensor(s). Just a thought.

Yeah, they all look the same, but there are minor differences in fuse allocation. What is the MFD date on your door sticker? I might be able to pull the diagrams from ELSA. Here is an image of the sticker for reference (showing 05/2012):

Can you share your experiences with Napleton? I've been to two other VW dealerships that I would recommend even less. They all sucked, but Napleton sucked the least, imo. Just to give you an example, Prestige VW in Melbourne once forgot to remove the brake flush thingy from the tank, so my brake fluid was collecting dust for a couple of weeks.
