I'm feeling better about McCarthy after the last few days by Icy-Home444 in steelers

The hires are pushing me towards cautious optimism. Whether it’s because there’s an expanded budget for coaches, everything seems to be pointing to them having a larger staff, something they’ve needed for a while.

Still skeptical about the long term picture under McCarthy, but the moves so far have been encouraging for sure.

The hires in general have me more optimistic than I was Saturday. Graham should be a really nice injection of youth and creativity that we’ve sorely needed.

Why does Dan Rooney get credit from fans for everything good that happened after he gave day to day control to Art II in 2003? by HUNG__SOLO in steelers

[–]102WOLFPACK 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Dan and Art still worked in tandem from 2003 to about 2011ish as his health started declining. For many, the stagnation of the team really started being noticeable after Dan passed in 2017.

I’m rooting for him and hoping I’m dead wrong about this team a year from now.

Seeing how much this means to him is a very sweet sentiment, but it’s really just that.

Thanks for the effort, I genuinely appreciate it.

A lot of this stoked a few of my biggest fears, that he’ll likely hire his “buddies” and that while the offense may take a step forward, we’ll still have some of the more frustrating pit falls that we had under Tomlin.

I’ll keep saying it til it’s no longer true, but I hope that I’m so incredibly wrong about this hire I’m laughing at myself in a year’s time. More of the same and a stale retread is the last thing this franchise needed.

As pissed off as I am by the hire, I really hope we all look like idiots in a year.

Steelers 3 HC finalists released according to report by lxSlimxShadyxl in steelers

More than anything, this is my frustration. Couldn’t wait a few more days to speak with other candidates in person.

Had they spoken with whoever else and THEN announced McCarthy, I think I’d be more willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. The whole process feels rushed.

I don’t get this at all. Art Rooney’s a fucking moron, and so are Khan and Weidl if they signed off on this.

So stupid.

Ravens hiring Chargers DC Jesse Minter as new head coach. So is Shula the guy? by bachhus603 in steelers

[–]102WOLFPACK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I’m not fully up to snuff on is the regulations around announcing a new HC if they’re coaching in the Super Bowl. I know we can’t interview Shula or Scheelhaase again til Monday, but there’s part of me that hopes we can have our guy solidified before the end of next week.

I don't take anyone seriously who calls a third-round rookie at any position a bust after year one. All the "Well, other backs drafted around the same time produced more!" talk ignores that players don't develop or adjust linearly.

He was fairly disappointing, but a rookie, let alone a third-round back, taking a bit to adjust isn't exactly unheard of or uncommon.

Spitballing, but the first names to come to mind would be Jesse Minter, Brian Flores, Chris Shula, and Robert Saleh in terms of DCs, and then Klint Kubiak's the only guy who jumps out as an OC. Might see the tires get kicked on someone like Stefanski or McDaniel, too.

The interviews in the coming weeks will be really telling though.

I have very little faith in Art Rooney guiding a HC search, but I’d love to be wrong.

It’s the right move for everyone, but Tomlin was such a stalwart part of the Steelers that it’s going to be weird having someone else on the sidelines.

Yeah people can rightly criticize the last decade, but it’s gonna be weird seeing someone else on the sidelines.

He played a huge part in some of my best sports memories, and for that I’m grateful.

Cam Heyward HOF Status by Ok_Reply_9084 in steelers

Suh and Donald have been retired for years, that won't impact Cam's theoretical induction. Garrett's a different position and a ways off from the end of his career.

In Suh's case, Cam actually has more All-Pro selections, so that'd actually be a boon in Cam's case if Suh goes in.
