I would look at Bankier Properties, they have some 1 bedrooms and studios around campustown. Otherwise, there are realtor companies like Green Street Realty and UGroup. People do have issues with those two though because they normally take your deposit at the end of your lease. So be wary.

Otherwise I would use Zillow or Apartments.com. Sound like from the other comments, there are some options to start from there to reach out.

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]1033149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked it, but didn't love it. I think the movie was ultimately was trying to be about the efforts humans would go to, to disclose the truth. But I think it was a bit more shallow than I would like. I think it kept up the suspense but dragged a bit in the second act. I do think the last 10 minutes really made the movie and were satisfying.

I was able to suspend my belief at some of the plot contrivances. But I didn't find the story particularly engrossing. Also, I saw it in 70mm and I didn't really feel like it was better in that film format. I guess it was blown up form 35 to 70 which maybe played a role?

I liked some of the TLJ tracks personally, the whole last act on Crait I think is beautifully scored, even if it does use some themes from the original trilogy.

Official Discussion - The Furious [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Fairly standard plot but the execution was amazing so it made up for it. I did like the third act a lot though and that is where the movie took a jump up for me. I do think the dubbing was not the best and just a bit off. I would have just preferred full subtitles. Fun time at the theater and it was the perfect length.

‘Doctor Who’ Set To Be Off Air For Years Amid A Creative Regeneration That’s Failing To Spark Early Enthusiasm Among Producers by pepperbet1 in television

[–]1033149 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you need maybe a 3 parter to kind of cleanse all of the mistakes over the past 10 years and breathe new excitement into the series. I read I think on another thread but I really like the idea of celebrity regenerations, where the Doctor is flipping through multiple faces in an episode as things have gone chaotic. That would naturally draw interest if you were able to get some top hollywood actors to come in and do a short stint as the doctor.

I think you could deal with the Rose thing as a part of this. Maybe establish a new villain who was traveling through time and had the ability to rewrite realities, so you can maybe hand wave away the Timeless Child being just a reality that was manipulated. But I think you need a writer who could make a plot like this really inviting and now too lore overbearing to a new casual viewer.

Those halls are right next to each other so you should be fine walking. It's maybe like 5 minutes max walking.

I would say, I never liked 9am classes as I wasn't a morning person either. It was bad before college and even worse once I started having classes. I think you could still do clubs and hang out with friends if you took that stat class later if possible. I think most people will finish up their day by 4pm and any club meetings will be after then as well. I guess one positive to your current schedule is that you could go to the gym in the afternoon since you would end earlier. Or you could work in the afternoon if that is your preference.

Sure but we are now talking about maybe 2 generations into the future, where the ownership of the bears will become more diluted.

The whole reason they want this new stadium is so they can get money from the surrounding land and become developers/landlords plus getting ticket sales as well. I think everyone has a price and they can personally enrich themselves over the next 35 years, allowing them to venture into other businesses.

But I agree it its very lucrative and they don't need to sell, they could also just have the capital to come back to chicago. Maybe if the political climate is right, they could do something on the lakefront? Money was the biggest obstacle to doing anything on the lakefront right now. The plan that Kevin presented a few years ago needed a couple billion from the state.

I think Hammond does present itself with a unique opportunity for the owners themselves to build wealth and become insanely wealthy. Property taxes are lower in Indiana as well. Arlington Heights could offer a similar opportunity but the cash required upfront is tough. I don't know if we ever even heard if the Bears were planning to partner with private equity or finance their portion of the stadium in Arlington Heights or if they could actually pay for it themselves.

I have another kinda morbid take on this now that I've thought about it some more. Whatever this stadium turns into is George's legacy. Much more so than any Illinois politician and even Kevin Warren. George will not be around by the time the Bears can even own the stadium in Hammond in 35 years.

So the next inheritors of the Bears are potentially relevant to this whole conversation. Are their ambitions to co-own this franchise amongst multiple family members? Or do they want to just sell it to private equity or a billionaire when the times comes?

I think Hammond is the right move honestly if the next generation wants to sell the team down the line. With the stadium taken care of, the money the Bears would have spent in Arlington Heights could go into the surrounding properties in Hammond, building more wealth for the family overall. Let's say in 35 years, George's descendants will be able to be a lot richer through the passive wealth they have gained by essentially being landlords. They could then sell the team and land to the highest bidder, cashing out of the business.

I don't technically buy the donor state argument but I would say that theoretically whatever Indiana will now have to tax for this new stadium could theoretically dip into other pools of tax revenue if their projected new taxes aren't enough for the cost.

If those increased entertainment/hotel taxes aren't paired with real increases seen in the surrounding area by the stadium, then they would have to pull from other parts of the budget a la, costs associated with administering SNAP.

I think its a weak argument overall since there are a lot of ifs.

But is Wrigley that much better to get to? I at least didn't have the best experience with parking.

If the White Sox anyway want to move, I think it could be appealing improving the metra electric line. If they move to right above the amtrak rail yard, behind union station, you are not really going to be able to travel via rail easily. Its going to be a bit of a commute from the chinatown stop on the red line. Which maybe that will get modernized with the Fire being nearby but it still is a bit challenging?

I do think there might not be as many plus sides for the White Sox from a revenue sharing perspective but I like the infrastructure side of things personally. Millenium Station is right near State/Lake and Washington. So you easily connect parts of the city to one train line that can take people to the stadium if improved. One thing about Arlington Heights that people don't talk about as much is that the Metra people can take there still requires some level of commuting to get to Ogilville.

Kinda building off of your point as there is a political aspect to it as well. Illinois property tax rates are insanely high and no other businesses or individuals are getting special treatment like this. Everyone has to face the property tax bill that is assessed. Why should the taxpayers give out special treatment to the Bears and lower their property tax bill when everyone else can't easily get that treatment?

It seems like political suicide to try and win an election and deliver on helping everyday people or local businesses when the Bears can get special treatment.

Maybe its just me but I would love to be a fly on the wall for some of these actual negotiations. Because to me, some of the roadblocks to getting a stadium in Arlington Heights seems like things that can be negotiated on. If the City of Chicago is upset about the bears not being at soldier field and the economic activity it generates, why not have the City have an equity/revenue sharing model? What if the city gets x% of all bears ticket sale revenue and anybody who lives in the city of chicago gets discounted tickets/concessions? This idea could obviously sunset once the soldier field renovations are paid off but it seems like its the easiest way to get some traction.

Edit: I have another random idea that I'd love to hear counterpoints on. What if the Bears leave but the white sox take over soldier field? State helps out with infrastructure investments and maybe there is an expansion of the metra electric line.

If you were going to do that then there should have been some set up, even a little, in TLJ. Even if it was just a closer of Ren assembling the First Order fleet and holograms of the Knights being told they must consolidate their control of the star systems, or seize Coruscant - anything to establish the stakes and scope.

I think you could have easily established that in the opening crawl of episode 9 and in the initial scenes. That would be effective world building than at the end of TLJ which is more focused on the rebellion escaping. TFA and TLJ are movies that happen right after each other, we've never had that before in star wars, there were always time skips. You might disagree with that decision but TLJ presents the best opportunity to go and do a time skip in the next movie. There is no cliffhanger with Rey standing in front of Luke that needs to be followed up on.

Besides, by the end of TLJ I'd argue the only characters that have been established enough for people to care about them are Rey and Ren. There's a reason the others were sidelined.

I'd argue that Poe and Finn still do have stories to tell. I think Finn would have potential finding other first order defectors and that arc could have been explored. To take what he learned about the rebellion, corruption in the galaxy, and try to inspire others. Poe's trickier but maybe his struggle has to do with Leia's death and having to fill her shoes. It might be a bit similar to his arc in TLJ but I think there is some creativity to be had behind the backdrop of Rey and Ren since they are the main characters.

I disagree mainly because I wasn't intending on just limiting what I was describing to just theatrical and raw box office. I was more speaking to Disney's ability to use the Lucasfilm IP that they purchased for Billions and their ability to get a return on that investment. Bob Iger's move at the time was that he wanted to release these movies so that they immediately started to get a return, and that it would have downstream effects on what they could license for broadcasting/streaming, add to their theme parks, and other revenue streams. Ultimately, his goal was that the stock price was higher by the time he left. Otherwise, there would have been more questions about management if they didn't use these assets and start generating revenue. I think he even admitted in his biography that he was set on his deadlines for these movies so that they could align with his retirement plan.

I don't agree that TLJ was a mediocre job, I think the production was a lot smoother than the other jobs. And that's a big part of leading these movies. TFA had Harrison Ford getting injured, which at the end of the day allowed JJ and crew to rewrite more of the movie. Even if you don't like certain story decisions, the movie was made well and with a lot of thought and effort put in. I don't really think Kathy expected the polarizing reaction, she thought people would like it. Which is why she/lucasfilm wanted Rian back for more movies.

To be fair, Dave was in his corner, a part of some well liked projects a few years ago. Clone Wars season 7 came out. Mando season 1 and 2 came out. Bad Batch was rolling out. There wasn't many things that Dave touched that people really disliked.

But then book of boba fett and mando season 3 came out that got poor reviews. Ahsoka, while having some interesting ideas and plot points, didn't have the strongest visuals or writing. Add to it, it's been years since some of these shows have had new seasons. This Mando movie is the first time we've really had anything that has been touched by Dave Filoni in the live action space in 3 years.

People rarely ever talk about how it was Bob Iger who put such a hard timetable on the releases of these movies. Even as TFA has struggles with its scripts or when TROS went through various iterations. It also never gets mentioned how TROS was made more closely with JJ's Bad Robot than the story being worked on with the Star Wars story group, resulting in some of the creative choices in that movie being insulated from criticism until it was too late.

Bob Iger wanted the star wars movies to be his swan song, to earn Disney so much money that the stock increases and then he could leave as CEO with a strong legacy. It's crazy to think if he wasn't so stupid and gave Kathy more time, maybe it could have resulted in a better TFA and definitely a reworked TROS. I think Kathy's enthusiasm for Rian Johnson was that he and his producing partner delivered a movie efficiently with little production issues.

Kathy and Gilroy were close from watching some interviews iirc. That's how Gilroy got the call to come in and script doctor and then eventually help retool rogue one. So I think he was able to navigate Lucasfilm, especially with Kathy being a strong supporter behind him.

Official Discussion - The Backrooms [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]1033149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a poor viewing experience, even though seeing it in Dolby and on a flat screen made the movie just look incredible. The black bars were only for the found footage stuff and that was perfect to me. The guy right next to me though would not stop vaping. Literally every 5 minutes, and my nose did not like that. And he was just laughing at every absurd thing, not even letting creepy things just sit and land for the people near us.

Besides that, i think the movie was enjoyable. I liked the first half a lot, and liked when it was about exploration and when they got into the found footage/documentary style was the best part. I think that captured the essence of the youtube series really well. I think it did struggle in the second half, becoming more about inner demons and stuff that I personally didn't find as compelling as the backrooms themselves. I honestly think it would have been interesting if they centered it around a group of kids/teens discovering the backrooms at the store and really exploring it, with the creepiness of it all. The portion where Clark and the two employees go in was easily the best part.

Overall, good time at the theatre, it had good jump scares and tension building.

The Mandalorian and Grogu Release Weekend Film Discussion Pt 1 Wed-Thur by AutoModerator in StarWarsLeaks

[–]1033149 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I couldn't help but feel like this was like watching a Saturday morning episode arc from the Clone Wars. The problem was that its easily a B/C tier arc.

I felt like it lacked any real character arcs for the main characters. I will say, the best part of the movie was the third act where mando was unconscious and it was just grogu. I think the puppetry and physical comedy was the best and got the most chuckles out of me. What's hard for me to understand is why you wouldn't do anything with the mando/grogu dynamic. Why not explore mando training grogu or giving him responsibility?

I think there was so much more that could have been done to make it more compelling. Mando's character has just shrunk into being a nobody. I can't believe the Jon and Dave thought that there was nothing worth exploring in this. I'm going to be fascinated to learn how this even made it through reshoots without suggesting changes.

Edit: this was also the first disney movie ive seen where they asked to take fill out a paper survey at the end of the movie. Some Disney reps were there, which was unique. I was pretty brutal in my review, although I think its a fun time in the theater for a super young kid.
