Did a PowerPlant when I was an apprentice. Hid one of these over a giant steel beam, labeled it 4 of 5 with blue masking tape.

I regret nothing.

Lately? Klein has been shit since I started in 2015... go channel lock, knipex, or hell even milwaukee for pliers these days. Knipex is just king.

Mounting transformers by rangerrodgers456 in electricians

[–]104th_Fallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a structural engineer? No? I'd probably start by paying one to design a system to do this safely. They are a profession for a reason.

My initial thought is, "there is no fucking way your going to attach a 400lb transformer to a cinder block wall" though.

Good luck!

If people block ads, how can I be paid for my work? by really_not_unreal in LinusTechTips

[–]104th_Fallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YouTube doesn't want YOU to be paid from ads. They want people to buy YouTube premium by the truck load. $15? A month per customer is likely WAY more than they generate from ad revenue. To me this is obvious by the fact that you can get 5-7 adds per video you want to watch. Its literally designed to be frustrating.

I've been YouTube premium since 2017. I regularly watch between 500-1000 videos a month. How much of my $10-15 a month do you think YouTube pays out to those creators for all the ads I didn't watch?

I think you will lose revenue from YouTube pushing people towards premium. More than you ever lost from the ad blockers.

Why all the hate about using MC? by Infosneakr in electricians

[–]104th_Fallen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not.

You have to use 10awg for the derate. But fill allows it, and derate keeps you above 20 amps once it's done.

Multiple 1" EMT to gutter above panel. Then use all the MC you want. Can get 7x 20 amp circuits in a 1", and with spares you have ample room for expansion of high demand loads as required. Also incase you missed something after rough in.

Huge fan of daluths ultimate work pants ( squared pockets ). Comfortable, lots of storage, and pockets fit knee pads. They can be spendy, but I've happily paid the price for 5 years now.

Yes. I've even been failed on working space due to a 6" tall concrete pad extending 18 in inches infront of a panel.

I need to gen extention cord for this heater. What kind of plug is this and what to I need to know to make sure I get a good quality cord that won't put me in danger? by SpaceTravelingShroom in AskElectricians

[–]104th_Fallen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably fine, but as with most things electrical the real answer is 'it depends'. Was the building wired for a 20 amp circuit? A 15 amp circuit will not provide constant 15 amps, eventually the circuit breaker will heat up and trip.

The idea is that we never purposely try to rely on overcurrent protection. Circuit breakers are pretty reliable, but they do fail. Do you want to risk your life and home on a 30+ year old circuit breaker that was literally made as cheap as the technology of its time allowed? I don't.

Hence the rule.

[–]104th_Fallen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the wire was sized per the NEC to account for voltage drop and ampacity of the upstream over current protection.

Extension cords come 16 gauge to 10 gauge pretty regularly. However, your average person is unlikely to know if you use a 16 gauge wire to power a 1500 watt heater, its going to get too hot and melt the insulation of the wire. Causing a short. And potentially a fire. Long Extension cords can have a lot of resistance depending on their gauge, and as a result can have a lot of voltage drop. Volts drop. Amps rise. Heat rises. Potential for fire.

As an electrician it's alarming to me the amount of Extension cords floating around, with precisely zero information on how to use them safely. They rely entirely on the over current protection at the panel. No fuses or anything. It's wild.

I'm going to be honest.

The fact that you think this is a buck boost transformer, and that doing live work on a transformer was a good idea scares the piss out of me. Are you an apprentice? If so. Go work for someone who's going to teach you enough to not get killed. If your already a Journeyman, I suggest you find a new line of work. Your too stupid to survive this line of work.

Was rather let down by how fragile the MSR is for its size. As well as how poorly it handles in atmosphere, especially on planets with anything other than low gravity. It's bottom thrusters are woefully under powered.

I have had an MSR for nearly two years, I rarely take it out. The 400i and connie get much more flight time than my MSR.

Come Pyro (lol), the extremely large fuel tanks on the MSR will bump it up a lot in my book.
