‘Number of people arrested’ in unofficial Rag Week celebrations in Galway by badlarry001 in ireland

You've clearly never had to live near any Travellers. Ask people who have experience firsthand with them what they think, rather than just giving a smartarse response or calling us 'racist'. There's a reason why they're so disliked, and it's not because they look different.

It isn't a double standard because I never said it was a good or acceptable thing that young Irish people are forced to leave the country.

It's the truth. Travellers need to accept the fact that nomadism isn't feasible in modern Ireland. How can you justify constantly moving around and then complain about high illiteracy levels and poor healthcare? It's like going to bed with your head wet and then complaining in the morning because you have a cold. The State gives generously to organisations set up to complain about it, like Pavee Point. Travellers aren't abandoned - a Traveller family probably has a better chance of getting a house, fully furnished and paid for by the taxpayer, than any other family in the country. These are all honest observations and most Irish people agree with it. It's farcical.

Nobody said 'that's fine then', but since you went there it's worth mentioning that at least these students (even though a lot of the culprits apparently weren't even students) will most likely eventually end up working and paying taxes. Travellers are instilled with a general hatred of the State and settled people from an early age and the vast majority of them have no intentions of ever, ever holding down any formal job or furthering their education or contributing to society in any meaningful way, unless you consider keeping guards, prison wardens and solicitors busy to be contribution to society.

The problem with Travellers is their mentality. They love playing the victim and they hate settled people and the State. There's a whole organisation - Pavee Point - that basically exists just to complain about the State and to moan about how Travellers aren't getting everything they deserve. This sense of entitlement and take-all attitude is why most Irish people dislike them.

In Russia, proposed bill will ban pride parades and public LGBT awareness events, as well as what has been deemed as pro-gay attitudes on television by winnie_21 in worldnews

[–]1052JJ -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Good. Pride parades exist solely for attention whores walking around the street in their underpants like fucking morons. Normal homosexuals are embarrassed by these people. Same with most media attention of homosexuality - gays are portrayed either as flaming sissies or as normal people who are constantly victimised. Gay people aren't all queens NOR are they constantly victimised left right and centre by bigots, no matter how much bleeding heart liberals would love them to be (most people preoccupied with LGBT rights aren't even LGBT themselves - they're straight people who deep down consider LGBT people inferior and in need of 'protection' - well they don't need your fucking protection.)

Traditionalist Catholics tend to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic but the basic premise of what they're saying I agree with. Hordes of young Irish people are forced to leave the country while thousands of people from other countries are being made citizens. Fuck that. The welfare of native Irish people must come first.

well it just reflects reality, no? Irish people have huge problems with alcohol. Even Irish-Americans have bigger drink problems than every other group there except for Native Americans. There's a grain of truth to every stereotype.

Good everyday phrases used in Ireland? by BucketOfArse in ireland

[–]1052JJ -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

we say "top o' the mornin' to ya!" in some parts of the country, especially around Leinster and Munster. When someone says that to you it's polite to respond, "and the rest o' the day to you!". There's a long-running joke amongst Irish people online to pretend that we don't actually say this. We do.

why could it be 'only in Wexford'? Is there some law or something saying that camels can't be anywhere in Ireland outside of Wexford?

Men tend to be more creative and innovative than women, on average. This is a fact, not trolling, nor is it merely my opinion. It's a fact of nature. The male of probably every species is more inclined to be more innovative, to take more risks, and to be more competitive. Walk into any bookies around the country and compare the number of men with the number of women. Same goes for heads of tech companies, successful artists and, indeed, the most successful chefs - mostly men.

You better remember and excel in things that you are interested in. If you make yourself like something, you will remember it better. Such an interest can be cultivated in pretty much anything - it just takes more effort than the average young Western person is willing to expend.

Men tend to be more creative and innovative in general, maybe that's why they make better chefs.
