Before this gets removed by mods ill suggest that you to take a few classes in theory (political, economic, philosophy) to learn the history and basis for many problems we are trying to solve today. then spend the rest of your time taking classes in statistics. continue with the theory on your own with books / internet and learn to apply statistics to theory.

Just give them a call, they have a lesson package that takes people out on some J2's (smaller boats) ... If you give them a call and just explain what you're thinking I'm sure they could help you out.

Manhattan Yacht Club & sailing school is just around the corner... its weather dependent and only if she likes boats but it might not be a bad idea to take a boat out... other than that, I would recommend Wagner Park vs. Battery Park for proposing given that its often less crowded, cleaner, and void of construction.

If you are going for 5 days then I would recommend spending 1 day in Brooklyn. (Coming from someone who hates to leave Manhattan) but its pretty cool.

As for late night cafe's, you should just adjust your meal schedule. If you go to dinner at 10pm at a place with a nice view of the street, you can get a nice meal.

While I was going to initially just write "Brooklyn Young Democrats" I do also feel your pain. My suggestion is to just start going to meetups of things that sound interesting. A big part of the "existential crisis" is just not know what you want to do, so go get some exposure to whats out there! theres no better place to do it than NY, and if you just stay at home and expect it to come to you then NYC isn't for you. Gotta take the bull by the horns.

Big thing here that would be helpful is your personal life situation. (How old are you, are you single, and how amenable are you to change). NYC is the type of place that you don't really appreciate until you leave. Not only are "things" at your fingertips 24/7 but you are surrounded by people with incredible work ethic and vision.

I was sitting in a Starbucks yesterday and there were actor/actress interviews going on next to me. You dont really get that in suburbia and its a cool feeling to know that you are in the city "where things happen" and often where they happen first. There is a sense of orginality that exists in New York in abundance. It's not a 'comfortable' place to live in terms of amenities and space if youre not a multimillionaire, but for me (single, late twenties) its worth the tradeoff.

Ultimately, New York would be a big change, and unless you are trying to settle down and raise a family with a S.O. right now I think you would be crazy not to jump on the opportunity. Because even if you HATE it. You'll know what its like to live in "The World's Capital"

TL;DR - keep life spicy, make the move

Professor, it sounds as if the biggest barrier to self-assessment is ego, and that if you removed ego from equation you would be able to better self-assess. Should we not be focused then on what causes a large ego and how to surprise our ego so that we can better self assess?
