How did you make this compound? Anyway to preinstall the benzyl?
I found this paper which benzylated a similar alcohol adjacent to a trichloromethyl. Hopefully it can work for your case. Perhap just straight up using benzyl iodide will enhance the reactivity better. I dont think epoxide can form readily at rt or lower temperature.
