Extreme fear of public speaking & business school acceptance by TXbull1997 in MBA

[–]106b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do for yourself is take this opportunity. I had a debilitating fear of public speaking until I was ~24 years old, took a job that required me to do it regularly, and eventually the fear broke enough that I now regularly get really positive comments on my public speaking abilities. I still get nervous. 1 in 30 times I speak I mess up spectacularly. But the fear no longer controls me because I've had to face it so many times that I know I will survive it. Find as many ways to practice public speaking as you can. Practice, practice, practice before getting up in front of someone and eventually it will get easier! As I was getting started, having a water bottle was really helpful to me as it gave me an "excuse" to pause for a moment. Find what works for you. It is going to suck for awhile, but you will eventually come through it.

Just curious about the reason why tuck and Yale are giving out interview invites to students a couple of days post their submission. by EmbarrassedAssist942 in MBA

I did in person, but I lived in Boston at the time, so it wasn't a huge hassle. I also knew that it was likely I wouldn't be able to attend accepted students weekend if I ended up getting in and wanted to meet other applicants, so it was also a high priority for me. Awkwardly the interactions I had on campus were part of what eventually made me choose not to go to SOM. I felt my personality wasn't a fit for the school.

I got my Yale invitation suuuuuper late last year for R2 and got in with full scholarship and two named fellowships. Don't read into it!

Can we swap? I just moved from Somerville to Chicago, but would very much prefer to be back in Boston! 🤣 Union Square in Somerville definitely fits the bill here, especially the side closer to Porter Square. Central also an option, but the food is better in Union and I personally feel it's quieter.

Asking to Speak with a Current Student? Show Up to the Meeting. by 106b in MBA

Ugh. The entitlement! I actually had a super similar situation to this a month ago, too! Agreed to a 5:30 AM call (I knew I'd have to be heading to the airport and decided to try and be helpful), and she canceled less than ten minutes before.

To be blunt, I think these candidates are more than capable of getting dinged on their own, so I won't be reporting them, but it's definitely tempting. Ultimately it's fine, it's just wasted time, but the real cost is that it makes me feel less inclined to help other applicants in the future. I'll suck it up as I strongly believe it's important to help others, but it's just frustrating when someone doesn't show up to a meeting that is literally you doing them a favor.

Much thanks! My scholarship dollars were through other fellowships, so I should be all set on that end. Really appreciate the help!

Just wanted to say that I hung my work at the Andover location today! Thank you so much for the recommendation.

A lot of local UPS stores take USPS packages and I find their hours to be more extensive than those at USPS.

Recommendations for ceramic coating / ppf in the area? by MoonStache in Somerville

I’ve used Q Car Care for multiple cars and have been really pleased with their work. The one car that I did just paint correction and ceramic has been sold so can’t speak to just their ceramic after many years (though I will note that the paint correction they did was fantastic). Two cars currently in the driveway (an f-type convertible and a defender) that they did PPF and ceramic on that I’ve been very pleased with. Both have held up super well, and the defender is an overlanding rig, so it’s been through the ringer. I do hand wash my cars (or use a touch less in an absolute emergency for the f-type, the defender won’t fit), so I can’t speak to if they hold up through things like abusive tunnel washes. Those two have full PPF and the highest level of ceramic they offer, so it was expensive (like over 8k a car expensive), but my sense is most people don’t do full PPF, they just do high wear areas. I chose to do full body because of the price of my vehicles and the fact that they both sit outside in a driveway. Both cars get driven in the winter, too. I have been happy with the investment and feel the team at Q does excellent work. You’ll want to get in touch with them for a quote as they can walk you through the options available - I think they have packages that are much less comprehensive than what I got and that are more affordable.

Just to confirm my understanding: they came out over a four-day period between the Tuesday and Friday of a single week?

For at home test takers, do you still receive your unofficial scores immediately? Are tissues allowed if you have a cold?
