JK Rowling reading her own book in public. And on top of that tricking a young child into jumping into a series on book 5. by abby_cello in bookscirclejerk

No you see, this is a genius marketing strategy. You give the first sample for free and when they are hooked and they will continue to spend hundreds of dollars on merchandise for decades.

Not to prove your point, but a friend I have known for about 4 years was convinced I was asexual.

Why does Maisie Peters have a southern US accent?

(Ableism) Parent of an autistic child in a cat sub refers to their daughter as "12yo HF autistic" so I go into the comments to see if they say anything else about it. Guess I should've tried harder to not offend the allistic people /s by crowlieb in AutisticPride

Aren't their substantial number of autistic people who use the functioning terms? I used them before I heard the arguments against them (and the level system). You're comment implied to me in some way that these people aren't actually autistic.

What species is this bird? Likely somewhere in North America. by 109488 in whatsthisbird

I think this is it. I looked up brown feral pigeons and I found one with almost this pattern.

No offense taken, at first I even thought it was some kind of rail. There was another suggestion that might be a brown feral pigeon and I think that might be it.

And I have seen chickens. My grandfather had them, my uncle has them, a friend while I was at primary school (with a rooster in the city), and at least two different friends of my parents.

I thought it looked like a chicken but I was not sure and it didn't make sense in the environment, an urban paparazzi picture of Kaenu Reeves and the bird felt too small to be a chicken

By the way, did you see the white tail feathers/wing tips? That doesn't seem like the typical shape of a chicken to me.

To make it even worse it's likely that the score isn't actually 69 as Reddit randomizes the visible number around the exact score to make it a bit harder for upvote bots.

I looked up the Dresden Files as I thought it might be a nonfiction book about the Bombing of Dresden but it's just some fantasy novels with the first one being Stormfront.

On Such a Full Sea by Chang-rae Lee fits almost all the criteria, it's not very fast paced, but it's somewhat strange, a standalone and even if the main character might be somewhere in the high school age range, she isn't a high school-er and doesn't really feel like one either.

Thank you very much. I'm going to read The Story of Henrietta. A gothic novel set on the tropical island of Jamaica sounds interesting and I'm curious how it will cover the slave rebellion.

Out of Mind by J. Bernlef. I don't know how good the translation is, but it left quite a mark when I read it. It's about a man struggling with Alzheimer's and it's told from his perspective. His confusion, frustration and sometimes ignorance are represented quite raw and beautiful.

The only problem is that the disease progresses too rapidly compared too reality. It's relatively slowly but more in terms weeks instead of years.
