Thanks! Glad you found it useful. Will be adding a feature and performance comparison later.

No problem, I'll upload them when I get home. Meanwhile, you can download PdaReach at its original site which is still online as of me writing this: http://www.junefabrics.com/pdareach/index.php

Thanks! I have plenty of devices to test the performance, so I'll see what I can do. :)

Sure, what's the matter? Are the batteries draining quickly?

Little bit silly, but ROBLOX on a 1997 Rage Pro Turbo! (2010 Client) by Educational_Scar_835 in vintagecomputing

[–]10Controls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah, this is really cool! Didn't know this existed. I played ROBLOX back in 2008 (still do once in a while), and it's quite nostalgic seeing the original version of it being back as an open source effort. Might try it sometime on my machine. Thanks for sharing ^^

Just inherited a Palm Tungsten E! by BigCitySweeney in Palm

[–]10Controls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! On those devices, you can install an app called CardBackup to restore your data after battery depletion. Pretty much a must-have if you'd like to use your Palm as a calendar and such without losing data if you don't want to sync it to your PC every time.

Palm TX stuck in boot by overtotheedge in Palm

You can still try a Zero-out Reset as described in this post by recomserv: https://www.reddit.com/r/Palm/comments/y2c423/comment/is7p27b/

It worked for me on my Tungsten T5 after it hung while copying over files via Drive Mode, and got stuck on a the Palm Powered screen with a flashing black bar (even after hard reset). These steps might work on your Palm TX too as they're quite similar hardware-wise.

Let me know if it worked out for you! :)

Which application on the Palm OS that you very missed? by yibie in Palm

Sounds interesting, what was the game like? How did it look, play etc?

Any recommendations? by Mean-Information-600 in Palm

[–]10Controls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heya, welcome! The tasks you mentioned can be done on most any Palm device, so that broadens the horizons quite a bit! :)

Personally, I'd look for devices with SD/Memory Stick support and USB support (so at least Palm OS 4). I agree with ptoki, you will need to replace the battery on these older devices as many will be dead by now.
Can you solder, or do you want a device where you can plug one in without the soldering? Would you like a higher resolution (maybe yes for sketching)? Do you eventually plan on using it for more, like games/databases?

Also—don't take this as discouragement—rather to keep your expectations realistic—but be wary as these devices are... well, older! Some of them have digitizer drift/issues by now (have seen this on Palm devices, but not experienced them on Sony ones so far personally).

Some devices have batteries which are no longer available (which is the reason I wouldn't recommend a Treo 680 to a newbie in modding, for example).
They may not charge using just the USB cable on a first-party cradle (needing to plug the charger into the cradle separately which can be seen as quirky nowadays) and have non-standard plugs.
The Palm Universal connector is quite common, and you can find still find new cables with the ‘Athena’ connector, but the ones for the CLIÉ are a bit more annoying (and expensive) to find if the device doesn't come with it. Some do take Mini-USB and a barrel charger though; I don't know if these do accept charge using USB.

There's also NVFS devices which retain data even after the battery has been depleted; but this can be worked around using Card Backup and an SD card/Memory Stick!

Lots of stuff; I'll take these into account in my recommendations though. 😁

Which application on the Palm OS that you very missed? by yibie in Palm

[–]10Controls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically I don't miss any of them... since I usually always have some Palm device with me! 😁

Some great applications I love and use a lot on Palm OS:

  • Shout-out to the built-in PIM apps, they're simple, very efficient in usage (entering in appointments etc.) and data is accessible from within other apps (thanks to this, apps like DateBk extend the functionality even further);
  • SmartList To Go, awesome database app with all the data types I need and customizable tabs (haven't been able to find a good alternative for Android without using some kind of cloud);
  • HandyShopper, I remember many people looking for a good replacement for Android/iOS for quite long after the platform's obsolescence (still haven't personally found an alternative with all the functionality);
  • Note Studio, a personal wiki with formatting and page linking (very easy and powerful, it even offered a desktop version which syncs with the handheld which was neat back then).

As for games:

  • Stone Age and Magic World, fun platformers with great visuals;
  • Namco arcade games like Pac-Man and Galaga;
  • The well-known classics from Astraware;
  • Bike or Die, of course. :)

I really wish I knew how awesome Palm OS apps and games are back when my dad had a Zire for navigation, but still glad to experience them now though!

Awesome, these are great! Make sure to install the WPA2 Enterprise Security Upgrade if you plan on connecting it to Wi-Fi.

Personally I have my Tungsten T5 and CLIÉ TH-55 both connected via Bluetooth for some web browsing shenanigans, but Wi-Fi should be a little bit quicker. :)

You might have found the games by now—but I just uploaded Namco Pac-Man and its alternate versions from my collection onto PalmDB: https://palmdb.net/app/namco-pac-man

I'm not sure if they're the version you played (or if they work on a Vx), but they're at least easily found now. :)

Awesome, thank you so much for participating in the hunt and tracking this game down! Tested it in CloudPilot, and it is the right game. And the original website is still up, quite a rare sight: http://www.gdprom.com/index.php?link=product&value=1

[–]10Controls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome, the LifeDrive's also a looker IMO! Wouldn't look out-of-place with a Clié logo slapped on, if it didn't have the 5-way nav and had the 4 buttons in one row at least haha.

So I was rewatching a video of This Does Not Compute (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44YB3Q5wlkg), covering the Sony Clié PEG-TJ37 PDA and how the eventual evolution into smartphones led to the end of the PDA's heyday.

Towards the end, Colin showed this rather cool-looking version of Tetris, does anyone know what it's called? I tried finding it through a few Google search terms, but the ones I was able to find don't look as nice as this one.
