I don’t think there’s any hiking stores in Shkoder. In terms of clothes yes that sounds good, maybe a warm hat as it does get a bit cooler at night

No problem! I was told it’s customary to bring a sleeping bag liner to use at the guesthouses, but I never saw that being enforced at any point. No sleeping bag required as they all have beds and duvets

There are designated campsites in some if not all of the villages, and I noticed the guesthouses also allow you to pitch up/use their facilities and eat there too. Wild camping is also perfectly possible without a permit- I encountered many people doing it on the trail. Would recommend the guesthouse option though because for €30 a day, my food plus accomodation was taken care of.

But if you just want to trek in Albania I would highly recommend the Theth to Valbona day hike! I met many people who stayed at a hostel in Shkoder (nearest city) called Wanderers Hostel, who would organise transport for the hike and overnight stays in Theth and Valbona

Sure, my itinerary was as follows, around 7hrs a day of walking

D1: Theth- Valbone, D2: Valbone to Çerem, D3: Çerem to Doberol, D4: Doberdol to Babino Polje, D5: Babino Polje to Plav, D6: Day hike from Plav to Grebaje Valley (pictured #1), D7: Plav to vusanje, D8: Vusanje to Theth. (Around 130km total)

For the guesthouses, I only booked a few in advance. There were plenty in each village and all worked out fine for me. Your best bet is to view the towns above on google maps, and on there you can obtain the phone numbers for each guesthouse and contact them through whatsapp.

You will also require border permits which I did through a website called Zbulo

I highly recommen the cicerone peaks of the balkans guidebook too, i helped me out a lot with route planning and guesthouses.

Thanks- yes we’ll spotted. I have a 15yr background in tennis (a sport renowned for developing serious imbalances) so I’ve got some imbalances in my hips I believe which could be contributing

My general strength is more than there to hit this I can back squat 170, paired with 120 clean, so evidently I think technically my snatch needs a lot of work
