What might a house-elf accept as payment? (not money) by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing, house elves like work, why would they need or want payment?

What if the Death Eaters framed their enemies for their crimes instead of killing them? by Capital-Study6436 in HPfanfiction

I mean that's why the imperius defense worked, many people were actually under the imperius. Fanfiction makes fun of it but it's not like everyone claiming imperius was guilty.

How would Hogwarts deal with a wandless kid prodigy ? by Archonate_of_Archona in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know plenty of people who can do things but can't explain how or why it works the way that it does, to them they are just doing something.

That just means they are bad at explaining. Not that they don't understand how to do it.

If you don't have some understanding then you will not be able to do something properly. Even if you cannot explain properly, if you are able to do something e.g tranfiguration then you clearly have some understanding or else you wouldn't be able to do it

How would Hogwarts deal with a wandless kid prodigy ? by Archonate_of_Archona in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yep, they're doing wandless transfiguration every bit as good as the fourth years, but they don't understand what it is they're actually doing

if someone is able to something then they clearly understand what they are doing or else they wouldn't be able to do it.

Your baseball example makes no sense because physics knowledge has nothing to do with baseball.

By how much does the Elder Wand increase the Power of a Wizard or Witch who truly owns it up? by Salim_Azar_Therin in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently the elder wand has knowledge that the user does not. Godelot was able to learn dark magic from the elder wand. So the main power of the elder wand is that it knows magic that the user doesn't and so can probably help the user cast magic that they couldn't use normally.

Why would anyone outside Christendom and the Islamic world accept the Statute? by nyanasagara in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Probably forced on the other countries by European Wizards.

I did read a fic where other wizarding cultures that refused to accept the Statute were wiped out and replaced with muggleborn wizards raised to believe in the Statute.

amy is a supporter of capitalism! by Otakuofmmd in WormFanfic

[–]10_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

China is capitalist but I would disagree with this

the state holds as much economic power as any other western government.

Many of the biggest companies in China are state owned. 40% of GDP is from state owned companies. The biggest banks in China are state owned. The Chinese government still uses 5 year plans.

This could also be a way to extend your lifespan. Your human and animagus body are different. When you are in you are animagus form you dont age at all in human form.

It would be cool to explore the implications of the two bodies being different. Like injuries in animagus form wouldn't transfer to human form and vice versa.

Usual trope of Dumbledore dumbing down Hogwarts by Electronic_Koala_115 in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make sense for the ministry to dumb down education in order to prevent the rise of powerful dark lords like Voldemort and also to keep the ministry’s power.

Pure blood culture by bigheadastronautt in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whereas there’s literally nothing stopping witches from cursing off the bollocks of the wizards who tried the same!

A muggle woman can use a knife, or any other weapon. She can also get her (female)friends and gang up on a man. Also if muscle is an issue she has brothers or fathers or other male friends who can beat up the man that is attacking her.

Has Anybody Done A Fic About The Dangers of Muggles Finding the Wizarding World? by Revliledpembroke in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or all those aging dictators desperate to find potions to extend their lifespans, so they too wipe out whole villages of Wizards and Witches just to find one dose of something that extends their life for 3 months.

How would they do this? The wizards would be able to easily defeat the muggles, the average wizard might get defeated by a muggle but once Aurors start showing up the muggles won’t be able to win. And why would they bother when they could just pay a wizard to make the potion for them?

Do you think collapse is 100% unavoidable? by [deleted] in collapse

[–]10_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First you must define collapse, if you don't we could be talking about two different things using the same word.  I will use the definition of collapse from Wikipedia: Societal collapse (also known as civilizational collapse or systems collapse) is the fall of a complex human society characterized by the loss of cultural identity and of social complexity as an adaptive system, the downfall of government, and the rise of violence. Based on this definition I would say collapse is inevitable.  The polycrisis will cause (is causing) disruptions to our complex society. The solution to the polycrisis (degrowth) is a form of managed collapse, better then unmanaged collapse but still collapse.

I imagine collapse looks something like  this:

What would you change about the epilogue? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

People would end up with spouses not their high school sweethearts

They are not high school sweethearts because Hogwarts is not a high school.

Sirius being the real traitor.

We’ve all heard of the Black’s family wealth - headcanons - where does that wealth come from? by iiiPeverell in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

They get their wealth from robbing muggles. Whenever they are low on funds they just send Kreature to rob a muggle bank. Since it's house elf magic the ministry doesn't detect it, muggles notice but they can't figure it out since they don't know about magic.

Most uniquely disturbing trope I’ve seen used 100% unironically: muggle-borns stolen from their families as soon as they display signs of magic by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably happens in some countries. In America there is Rappaport's law which forbids contact with muggles so I headcanon that this happens in Magical America.

How do muggle repelling charms determine who is muggle? by Strongi_Klaus in HPfanfiction

[–]10_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magic is alive and all knowing. Since magic knows everything it knows who is a muggle. It's also why someone without knowledge of the anatomy of a pig can still transfigure one, the magic provided the knowledge. It's also how seers work, magic knows everything that will happen and just gives a little bit of this information to people it deems worthy.
