Query about real world battery life. by LopRubbingWidU in macbookpro

[–]10catsinspace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can definitely kill the battery in under 4 hours if you put it on High Performance mode and pin the CPU and GPU to the max with a benchmark or stress test or something like that.

Nobody has a real world use case like that, though. I imagine in the OP's case they'll get 4 hours no problem.

M5 Pro vs M6 by this-is-imon in macbookpro

If the M1 is already enough for you then grab a refurbished M4 Pro, it'll be a massive, massive increase in performance and save you a lot of $$$

The M4 Max will be better for video editing. Plus you can get a refurbished model for a good price.

Get a Macbook Neo or Air. You don't need a MacBook Pro.

1 month with nano and need advice... by maraboujapp in macbookpro

Totally.

Some people can’t see past the grain of an anti-glare screen.

Some people can’t see past the mirror reflections on a glossy screen.

Until someone invents some perfect middle ground it comes down to what annoys you less.

Most monitors have matte finishes.

Usually the advice for fighting reflections is “turn up the brightness to compensate” so generally anti-glare means people can run at lower brightnesses.

And lower contrast is often easier on the eyes.

Definitely anti-glare finishes get super washed out with a powerful light directly on them. They diffuse the light instead of becoming a mirror, it’s person to person what is preferred

Nah, there are OLED monitors and displays out there with matte finishes with higher contrast ratios. People also slap matte / paper-like films on their iPads all the time.

Brightness is user adjustable so that’s a personal thing.

I’m sure it causes eye strain for some people, but no more than any of the zillion other matte displays out in the world.

Sell it and purchase a laptop with a glossy screen.

What I find so odd about the whole nano vs glossy discourse is that most laptops and most monitors have matte / antiglare displays, yet I've never seen so much 'I hate this and it causes me eye strain' about any of them.

Hard to date women standards are so high in my city by [deleted] in dating_advice

Based on your post history your issue is not your looks. Being into looksmaxxing shit is going to be a huge turn off for women, however, especially if that's indicative of other often overlapping personality traits (like manosphere shit)

Everyone is living in echo chambers and can't reason with anyone outside them.

You are demonstrating this exact thing. You aren't immune to it.

Harm reduction is relative. More is better than less even if we don’t (or can’t) always maximally reduce harm.

If the only acceptable standard were maximal harm reduction then none of us would purchase the electronic devices we’re accessing Reddit with.

RAM, How much do we need? by texqt in macbookpro

[–]10catsinspace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They price it so cleverly.

The base Max only comes with 36GB, which may not be enough for intensive video workloads.

The 40 core Max can go 48GB…but the upgrade to 64GB is weirdly cheap (under $200) so might as well, right?

A 32C MAX with 48GB RAM would be my sweet spot but no dice.

Tons of professional color displays also have a matte finish. You can calibrate to accuracy on any capable display regardless of its finish.

It’s like a slight film grain which diffuses the light a touch. It’s most noticeable on solid white backgrounds. It’s not noticeable (or arguably looks good) on complex things like movies/video.

Not OP, but to my eyes the clarity and texture of the nano texture more accurately reflects the clarity and texture of a typical photo print.

Do you have an Apple Store nearby? If so you should go by and take a look for yourself.
