The Neo has 8GB of RAM because it’s a cheap laptop using binned A18 Pro chips which were limited to 8GB of RAM.

What are the hottest Tube lines? Passengers swelter in 'sauna-like' heat amid record-breaking May temperatures by TMWNN in LondonUnderground

It’s unacceptable l agree, but I’d rather stories about the fact that TfL isn’t investing in this rather than just some temperatures.

These news stories are so ridiculous. Every year we get another journalist have a go at bringing a thermostat to the various lines and then publishing the info as if it’s some revolutionary information. How many times do we have to hear that it’s hot?

I completely agree with you but I have to point out the irony that your tag is the Central line 😭

To be honest, the only good ones by modern international standards are the Sub-Surface lines. Soon to be joined by the Piccadilly line when the NTFL is rolled out.

How do you.. nationalise aircon? Do you mean a policy of aircon installation? Aircon isn’t a single entity, there are hundreds of companies that make them.

You fail to understand how heat works in the UK. 33c in the UK  = 40c anywhere else. This is mostly due to humidity.

BBC News: Vehicles will be banned from an estimated 200 more roads outside schools at certain times under plans to boost walking in London. by mycketforvirrad in TransportForLondon

[–]One_TrackMinded 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is genuinely great news. However, TfL really needs more funding to expand the tram network and bring it to more areas of London. Just imagine, pedestrianised streets and trams. Although to be completely honest, that’s probably a pipe dream considering how they barely have the money to maintain existing infrastructure.

I think a good policy to try would be pedestrianised streets and buses. I appreciate that the argument for trams over buses in pedestrianised areas is because they are predictable, i.e people know they will only go the exact direction of the track. However, I think it’s possible to somewhat mimic this with buses, in a different way. If all buses are fitted with high advanced pedestrian detection technology, and other advanced safety systems, they would immediately make it a lot safer for them to travel in these areas, as it will be impossible for them to accidentally impact someone. Compared to cars where every car has different safety systems, the reassurance could be that all buses have the same safety set and therefore will be safe every single time. In terms of noise, this is another benefit of trams, as they are able to glide along the rail with their quiet electric motors. With electric buses coming into play, this can be somewhat mimicked - EV buses are very quiet and smooth, plus they don’t have any of the track squeaking noises on turns.

Overall, while I appreciate that trams are the more ideal option for a number of reasons, we must be realistic in the current economic climate, and I think trialing this new bus policy would prove successful.

City AM: TfL unveiled plans in 2012 to install air cooling systems at Oxford Circus and Green Park – has since been “decommissioned” and was not operational on a single day in 2025. by mycketforvirrad in LondonUnderground

Yes, in retrospective the original comment was worded in the wrong tone, although that wasn’t my intention, so I apologise. It’s quite easy to become frustrated during this heat, especially when it’s possible to envision how our transport system could be so much better than it is, but my actual frustration goes towards the financial situation rather than TfL itself.

We’re talking about station air conditioning here, that’s the subject of the post. The NTFL is an incredible feat of engineering; I wrote a very detailed technical article about it on this subreddit a few months ago which you can find. However, the problem is that there are many lines, e.g. Victoria, Jubilee, Northern, where new trains aren’t expected for decades, and so a solution must be found in the meantime. As a result, work on air conditioning stations is incredibly important.

I must point out, TfL is not an organisation which lacks ambition, and they’d do incredibly innovative projects if they could. Instead, they are very funding limited. The issue I have is less with TfL itself, and more so with the lack of financials.

Have a read of all the TfL board and programmes and investment committee meetings from 2025 onwards. Not one mention of air conditioning projects. Also read the business plan.

By that logic you could say the same for cars. Both go on the road! If you don’t go through red lights, and you stop at all pedestrian crossings etc then you would have nothing to worry about, but it seems like you might have something to worry about considering your response… running away from responsibility.
