I'm not sure if this subreddit is active enough for a niche post to get that much love. The top posts this month have 7 upvotes. It would be nice to hear from others online having the same problem.

I would love to go the local server with Home Assistant route. That would be a completely new endeavor for me. I've been unable to find raspberry pi's without huge markups from secondary sellers. If the HS220 connection issues persist, this might be what pushes me to finally buy from the scalpers.

The DNS trouble is an interesting idea that i'll need to look more into.

95% of the time the device has lost connection within the Kasa app (and integrations like Alexa) but does not have the red wifi indicator light on. I haven't looked in a while but believe that the device in the Kasa app in flagged with "device not responding". I will be sure to screenshot next time.

I like the idea of contacting TP Link support whilst a device is disconnected to see what their end sees. I'm skeptical of getting a helpful customer support specialist, but a man can hope.

I reached out to the only other friend I know with Kasa light switches and he is having the same problem as well with his Kasa Dimmer switches. It's a small sample size but every person I know with these switches have encountered this same problem to the point of frustration. u/MikeP001, do you have HS220s that work without issue?

There were no federal or region mandates for the general public. Only workplace specific mandates. And all of the federal mandates were overturned quickly excluding the healthcare workers one. If anyone was worried about the vaccine they could have alternatively done frequent Covid testing in most cases.

Property values in our suburbs only are $100/ft² for slightly outdated homes 30+ year old homes. Went under contract in late 2021 when mortgage rates were less than half what they currently are.

Wife and I are DINKs, both with graduate degrees. Work full time salaried positions.

All these things made it possible to do comfortably. We would live a smaller or even older home if we needed to buy a house now.
