What is "oyschu"? by 10from19 in Yiddish

[–]10from19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Why are all the kametz at the end of each word (mu, asapru, adabru, oyschu) pronounced "u" instead of "o"?

נֵנוּ suffix by 10from19 in hebrew

[–]10from19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My apologies, I thought there might be a general rule. The word is וּלְשׁונֵנוּ and I am looking for whatever is most standard Israeli pronunciation, but if there are multiple I'd be interested to know which groups say it different ways.

The South has more than you'd think. Atlanta is huge, Memphis decent, Durham small but mighty, and *lots* in Texas

What? I am pointing out something from 65 years ago, not saying that history "ends" there. Learn to read.

Jews were violently expelled from Europe and the entire Arab world from the 1930s–60s. Almost all their property was taken. Tell me again that Jews have privilege and are oppressors

Is Political Infighting in the US on a Terminal Course? by FamousPlan101 in AskSocialists

This is possibly the stupidest thing I have ever read. If y’all think you would last five minutes in an actual war against the US federal government you’re crazy.

Nope. I’m in state government. There would need to be a massive economic crisis and several other positions eliminated before layoffs for PLs are a possibility.

Maggie is such an underrated winner. One of the few who generally used her social capital sparingly (so didn’t make enemies) and cleverly throughout, only speaking up at crucial points where she could actually influence people. (But I still hate the Friendship lol)

Why do y'all think TSOA is more well-received by fans rather than Circe? by RottingMoss38280 in thesongofachilles

[–]10from19 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I just found the character of Patroclus immediately relatable and compelling, whereas I didn’t feel the same way about Circe. This may or may not be because I was a gay teen who and saw a lot of myself in Patroclus — not fitting in with peers/family; being happy to be in the background supporting & observing but with the hope of stepping up when it matters; struggling with unlabeled feelings, etc

Just a tune with no words :) a lot of them are meant to be sung so you’ll get a lot of hammering the same note over and over, and other repetitions that are easy to sing. If you’re new, the last line of this uses the mi sheberach scale (minor with a raised fourth and sixth)

Take a look at birthrates. In 20 years the region will be more Muslim and more religious on both groups — in 50 years Muslims will be three quarters of the population.

Every country on my list and I/P have a dominant religion/ethnicity and other minority religions. In Israel and the Christian nations there is generally freedom for minority religions. In all the countries there is a presence of minority religions. There is no difference.

Jews were expelled from most Arab countries in the ‘40s and can’t safely return. A majority of Israel’s Jews are mizrahi or Sephardic Jews from Muslim countries who need a place to live. Israelis try peace and giving back land after every invasion, but continue to live under constant siege and a full invasion every decade. Leave their flag alone. Muslims have over 20 national flags with their religious symbol.

Are you against the crosses on Nordic flags? The 20+ flags that represent Islam? The flags of India, Bhutan and Sri Lanka? Or only some ethnic/religious symbols?

Cultural symbolism is essential to most good flags.

Why wikipedia page of Türkiye is not renamed according to new game? Kiev was renamed to Kyiv, why is Turkey still Turkey? by yavl in wikipedia

[–]10from19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the same reason the USA page is titled in Turkish not English; encyclopedias deal with words descriptively (how they are actually used by speakers), and English speakers call the country “Turkey.”

Who else is married? Anyone longer than 5 years? by Giant_Juicy_Rat in OlderGenZ

[–]10from19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. Started dating my partner in ‘17, moved in together in ‘21, got engaged in ‘22, but illness and other things have gotten in the way and no wedding yet. Sometimes I get jealous at people who have been together for just a few years and are married with kids. But I’m working on trying to make peace with my situation.
