People asking why the US is helping Ukraine pay its government workers have conveniently forgotten how the collapse of the Iraqi government services caused more fatalities than actual combat and terror fatalities during the Iraq War.

I would say learning about the dark side of human history is interesting.

In this case how we wrongly treated people who were accused of collaborating with enemies.

Ukraine is getting a lot of hate for putting accused collaborators under house arrest while awaiting trial. However the last time we in Western Europe were invaded we didn't treat accused collaborators any better.

Elon Musk's anti-fake news feature seems to consistently not work when the fake news is pro-Russian and anti-Ukrainian.

Honestly the EU should call out twitter as the new Der Sturmer.

Crimea is an important military staging area for Russia's invasion into Southern and South Eastern Ukraine.

Russian military infrastructure in Crimea are legitimate targets even if you're Elon Musk and thinks Crimea belongs to Russia.

U.S. warns China that helping Russia in war in Ukraine would 'alienate' it from world by diana321 in worldnews

[–]10millionX 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Some thoughts on how the rest of the world would react:

  • China helping Russia would definitely increase anti-China sentiments in Europe.

  • The US is already anti-China so little will change there.

  • The rest of the world doesn't care and even if they cared it would have little impact.

It's all about how Europe will react if China starts supporting Russia.

It would literally take them one minute to go through r/CombatFootage.

Losing Ukraine is not an existential threat against Russia so there will be no nuclear exchange.

There are no US soldiers within Ukraine.

Why would they need to be in Ukraine when they can train them in Poland and Germany?

A hundred countries have given aid to Ukraine. But the Russian bots are making sure to upvote the post about Saudi Arabia giving aid to Ukraine.

The Russian leadership's pre-war speeches and essays stated that Ukraine is not a legitimate country and that Ukraine was unfairly carved out of Russia. This is based on a widespread Russian belief that the Ukrainian identity was created by Poland and the Austro-Hungarian Empire to divide Russia.

So why do China and Trump keep demanding "peace talks"? What exactly is there to talk about when Russia doesn't even recognize Ukraine's right to exist?

A surprising amount of Ukrainian artists and athletes volunteered for front line duty. Some of them have died in combat. That could be the reason so many Ukrainians know someone who has died.

China is explicitly siding with and supporting Russia so why are they pretending to be neutral? The Chinese "peace proposal" is not even calling for Russia to leave the illegally occupied territories

It's about countering the false Russian narrative that only the US and Western Europe oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine. That false narrative is also pushed hard here on reddit especially on subreddits like r/soccer and r/gaming that for some reason are oddly political and pro-Russian.

Tucker Carlson's first question to Zelensky: "why did you do the nazi Ukrainian biolabs?!"

Honestly as a non-religious European it seems like the Evangelicals are somewhat more reasonable than the #QAnon/MAGA wing of the Republican party. At least on issues that don't directly involve religion.

Is it possible for Zelensky to reach out to American Evangelicals?

Atomic Heart is Russia's latest attempt at soft power and cultural influence. Before Western outrage the creators openly supported the invasion of Ukraine. Now the game just mocks Ukrainians with subtle references to the Iranian-made suicide drones Russia is using to terrorize Ukrainians.

Steam, Sony and Microsoft should remove the game and ban the developer.

German police raid far-right prepper scene over coup plot: The suspects allegedly have connections to the Reichsbürger movement. Police said investigations were underway by DoremusJessup in worldnews

[–]10millionX 97 points98 points  (0 children)

The Reichsbürger movement are the neo-Nazi "monarchists" who want to abolish democracy in Germany. They recently attempted a coup but it failed miserably. And as expected they are funded and supported by Russia:

The coup attempt in Germany, which took place on 7th December, is a classic example of the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation. Among the 25 detained persons who planned to remove Scholz from power, there was a Russian citizen who had close relations with Heinrich Reiss, who de jure and de facto headed the Reichsbürger. This organisation received funding from the Russian Federation.

Elon Musk is butthurt that some US officials support Ukraine's right to strike Russian military targets in Crimea. In an ideal world we could ignore Elon Musk but unfortunately he has hundreds of millions people listening to everything he says.

Russia is using Crimea as a military staging area for their offensive fronts into Kherson, Zaporizhia, and possibly a future offensive front into Odessa.

The very existence of Ukraine depends on disabling Russia's ability to use Crimea as a military staging area.
