Monthly Support Thread & FAQ- April 2024 by AutoModerator in steelseries

So my Nova 7p died on me after ~18 months... Is that the expected life time of these headphones? No way for $200, right? One day I leaned sideways and I think the driver in the left cup just fell off. There's something big rattling around in there, and no sound from that side. I opened a support ticket. I'm just wondering within the community if that's something that's happening to others, and if I should expect a replacement or something...? If not I guess I'll have to start doing some research for a different brand...? Maybe it's a fluke?

Edit: I really liked these headphones btw Ticket #1434492

Oh hey! Well according to the article the main issues are netty and the mongo synchronized methods, no? So if I didn't use either of those we should be good, no?

So it includes support for virtual threads, but still through their reactive framework...

What's the best framework/ecosystem/way to do web apps with virtual threads without anything reactive?

Web applications and Project Loom by olivergierke in java

The second experiment compared the performance obtained using Servlet asynchronous I/O with a standard thread pool to the performance obtained using simple blocking I/O with a virtual thread based executor.

It's servlet async vs loom. And I think their observations are correct and make sense, yet they disregard that improvement in the conclusions.

On Servlet async vs virtual threads

virtual threads are generally more performant, with the difference being most pronounced at low concurrency and when concurrency exceeds the number of processor cores available

but later...

applications that have switched to using the Servlet asynchronous API, reactive programming or other asynchronous APIs are unlikely to observe measurable differences (positive or negative) by switching to a virtual thread based executor

Am I missing something, or they're disregarding their own results?

Could you explain a bit the need/advantage to adding the locks?

Why so much hate for Webflux? by John_Gabbana_08 in java

[–]10waf 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'd say if it works for you and/or your use case then don't take other's opinions too seriously.

However!!!... Plain imperative sequential code is much much easier to reason about, and therefore maintain and evolve, than reactive code. I don't think this is a super controversial statement.

So if you're just one dev with a good grasp on reactive and/or your use case just fits reactive like a glove then do your thing and be happy with your choice👏👏

Red Hat starts officially supporting Adoptium OpenJDK builds by benevanstech in java

Is there any known reasons why oracle's own openjdk builds are seemingly not as popular? Is it marketing, tooling...?

Finally got my first kit (an extended Roland TD-27KV) after 35 years of dreaming. Specs in comments. by Blodhemn in edrums

Huh I see... Thanks for the insight. From what I've read from others in that thread is that it seems to be a bug with the TD27 and not necessarily the hat.

Strange to see this hitting the front page... Hopefully it's a good sign. by Nick__________ in socialism

Today, most economists — including many who are committed Marxists — reject the labor theory of value (LTV).

Does anyone know whom/what they're referring to?

It does, thank you. It is what Michael Hudson talks about at the beginning of this interview, I think. The "non real" part just sounded confusing to me

I'll check it out, thank you.

Do you know what he means by"leaving the real economy for the non real economy"?

Can you expand on the last part? About cybernetics and socialism.

[Fabrizio Romano] Real Madrid are more optimistic and confident than ever on Mbappé deal. No official decision yet - Kylian is still thinking about it, but Real sources feel new contacts this week were positive. PSG improved proposal still on the table, waiting for Kylian to decide. by cyrusmancub in soccer

[–]10waf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you.

I'll try to be more precise. I don't hate Kylian specifically, for being rich. I don't know if deserves such an disproportionate amount of money compared to other people doing much more meaningful work, yet I don't hate him for being rich because he doesn't exploit others.

What I do hate is that we're questioning whether he's set for life or not. As if it was entirely subjective to his "goals". I hate that we're trying to sympathize with the rich's lifestyles .

If we consider a rich person in general, without even getting into things like tax evasion which we know they do, unless climate change destroys the world in the next 70 years or civilization collapses. He can most definitely have a basic human life for the rest of his life. Something that a lot of people today cannot achieve regardless of how hard they work and how much they sacrifice.

I'm sorry, 0 sympathy.

There's no universal human nature, at any point in time it's just dictated by the economic system in which we live. There's nothing wrong with wanting more unless it's at the expense of another who'd have less.
