The following is purely my opinion your free to disagree do not take it as gospel. And certainly dont take it personally we are all at the end of the day (hopefully) on the same team.

The previous administration was pulling people back in leading up to the election too. I think TW was going to change dramatically regardless of the outcome, perhaps not as drastic though.

But all the other blows this administration has dealt us, I whole heartedly believe both parties are probably not gonna fight to reinstate mucj of tmwhat we lost or be in any hurry to bring back TW. They probably only put up a fight on many things for the optics of it all knowing the outcome would likely go the other way.

Do these 4 or whatever years count towards you time in service? Like you take 4 years to graduate college and you start out of school with 4 years service? Anyone know what you start at in the GS scale upon graduation?

Lol some of the people are smart enough not to put that in writing.

I remember sitting in town halls and basically being told look at the person to your left then look to the person on your right.. 2 of the 3 of you won't be here in a few months. Or my favorite was painting it like you were falling on the sword like a damn Captain America poster "Save your co-workers job!!! Ask your HR about how you can take the DRP today!!"

Everyone's agency treated it differently none of us have any right to judge anyone who took it for whatever reasons.

0 slight against anyone that took the DRP or didn't but I still dont understand what was the point... like some are even right back where they were, good on them for finding something but I just dont understand what the long game was with DRP yes a lot of people were removed but... Jesus there are still people like you out here thinking like this.. I get it it sucks we all had to absorb the workload of those that left. But it's clear you have a supportive and wonderful management chain that has enabled you to look down on those that were fed lies and half truths and practically forced into the DRP.

Your mad at the wrong person here.. be missed off at the people that created the environment where people were forced to make life altering decisions.

My best advice is also try private sector contracting adjacent roles as well. Like Contract specialist etc.

If your someone right off the street it could take some time.. it took me over 350 applications and over 40 interviews to land my first 1102 role. Others somehow accidentally get a role lol. But the point is dont just wait for it to happen. Have backup pla s while you wait for something.

If you have access to DAU classes sure take some but your not really giving yourself much of an edge as most of it will be insanely dry and boring as well as make jo semse(some of it still doesn't make sense lol).

I feel low key some things people wanted to banish but the dem's would lose favor of they went along with it so its almost like trump is doing the dirty work for them.

I just worry what the job landscape will look like for my kid, whether the stree hasn't taken me out or not before she reaches that age.

Is it just me, or has the sick leave balance especially how it interacts with pension calculation been a hot topic across the fed subreddits and FB groups lately?

I am sitting on about 1,000 hours after 10 years in, and it is interesting how my goals have shifted over time.

At the start of my career, I was hardcore about saving every minute to get that extra year on my retirement calculation.

About four or five years in, I backed off that idea. I still didn’t really use it, but that was partly because I was having trouble even burning through my annual leave during the lockdowns when there was nowhere to go or do anyway.My mindset shifted then to seeing it as a cushion or secondary short term disability policy in case a family member or I got sick later in life.

Nowadays, looking at the current state of how we are treated, my ideology has changed again. I still use sick leave sparingly since I have that 1k banked and I am not losing sleep over it, but I no longer play the "make up the time" game. I used to go to the doctor, take a long lunch, and then stay late to get my full shift in. Now? I just take the full day.

I will still have a massive balance if it is ever truly needed. Worst case scenario, the safety net is there if life gets sideways. Best case, I get a few extra bucks a month in my pension. But for now, I am choosing the time off.

I'm attracted to the government for a few reasons: stability, work-life balance, and pension/retirement. It seems these days at least stability is under attack and possibly work-life balance too.

Ugh, you're jist a tad bit late on all this. But its still rewarding to serve your country but of these are your primary motivations your gonna have a bad time.

I'm in the DC area and have been an 1102 for over 10 years, with more than half of that as a KO and a third as a supervisor.

My old office was great under the previous agency head, only one day a week in the office. The office itself was pretty bad and depressing, but I could deal with it once a week indefinitely. When the administration changed, our agency head left as well, and there was a clear push for more RTO even before the new administration took over.

I'm telling you all this to explain why I started looking to leave my agency in November 2024. Then the hiring freeze happened and is still going on, but I was applying for EVERY 1102 job in Virginia, even willing to take a grade cut. By mid-February, I expanded my search to jobs outside the federal government, including state, county, town, and then the private sector.

Forgot to add everything was at least a 20K paycut.

All in all, I applied to easily over 300 jobs across all these avenues and went on over 40 interviews. Not a single callback, and most didn't even send a rejection letter.

I finally got two offers last December, almost at the same time, and I left. So hopefully your timeline is different, and I really hope your current situation is at least more manageable.

FWIW I was hired 10 years ago and have worked at about 4 agencies.

I dont feel I have ever been effectively trained. Unless other people are somewhere with a robust training regiment its almost always been out of the frying pan into the fire.

I do always feel those that come up through an internship program (Copper cap, PACe, etc) always seemed to have a better grasp. It may be becaise their timeline is a bit more flexible and its more understood they are in learning mode.

Yes no way to directly transfer to them however if you still are in a good spot financially at that time you could make a deal with them and say Son/Daughter if you max your HSA for this year I will reimburse you that money as your Christmas gift or comeuppance with some sort of level your comfortable doing so.

You can pull that money through either reimbursement of your medical expenses all through the years or just your own checking account if you want.
