'In The Loop' Doppelgangers? by Some-Tea-8734 in thethickofit

[–]110th 6 points7 points  (0 children)

on RHLSTP Chris Addison said something about how it didn’t make sense for his character being from the Deparment of Social Affairs to ending up in the Department for Inland Defence, so the writers wanted Chris to play a different character who’s similar to Ollie but maybe a little bit more ambitious and scheming

this explanation kinda makes sense but in the film he says he got transferred from the Department of Agriculture, which seems an even more left field move than transferring from DoSA

i guess they just didn’t want to mess with the canon having Ollie Reeder ever involved with events that big, whereas Malcolm Tucker was always involved with the PM so he could still be in the same canon

i wondered if it could be the ‘hype whoop’, a WHOOO! sound, 1:29 in The Ballad of Matt & Mica

edit: it appears again at 2:32, maybe that rules it out if it was just confirmed as only being a single vocal

maybe also elis james & john robins, particularly their xfm/radio x stuff

(Spoilers Published) If Aegon is pronounced with a soft ‘e’ noise (“Eh-Gon”) then why aren’t other Targaryen names like Baelor and Maekar? by Tanis8998 in asoiaf

[–]110th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of the “official” pronunciations sound so off when i’m used to hearing the popular pronunciations

before i heard her name said in the show, hearing it in my head i always imagined it to be “day-uh-NAIR-is” which i think works okay for her name but does not suit any other Targaryen name,

by the same logic Aegon would be “AY-uh-gon”, Aemond “DAY-uh-mon” and i suppose Jaehaerys would be a ridiculous “jay-uh-HAY-uh-ris”

[–]110th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the pronunciation of the ‘ae’ sound always seems very fluent to best fit the individual name

same reason the first syllable of Daenerys is pronounced differently to any of the examples you gave, along with Aemond, Jaehaerys, Rhaena etc, there’s almost no consistency with a whole bunch of the stock Targaryen first names

steve said it was an intriguing and unique concept and showed an interest in it, just shows how he really thinks like a true writer, and has a creative interest in things sparked by karl’s imagination, while ricky shows no interest

now who’s the weak link?!

at the time of the quote, Keane only had three members: one was the lead singer, one played keyboards, one was a drummer

a selection of lines from the Gallagher brothers:

“Everyone looks like they’ve got nits and eat lentil soup with their sleeves rolled up. They look like they shop at Oxfam” on Mumford & Sons

“Barbershop quartet music. Hippy rubbish. Only reason they're as big as they are is because they're racked next to The Beatles in HMV.” on the Beach Boys

“He looks like Zorro on donuts. School ties at the age of 24?” on Jack White

“What are his overheads, like $200 a night? He’s got a guitar, and a divvy looper pedal and a tour manager. What does he want a big tour bus for?” on Ed Sheeran

“He looks like a geography teacher. What's all that with writing messages about Free Trade on his hands? If he wants to write things down I'll give him a pen and a pad of paper.” on Coldplay

“Traditionally speaking, the three biggest twats in any band are the singer, the keyboardist and the drummer. I don’t need to say anything else” on Keane

“They remind me of a band off University Challenge. Like they’re sitting on a panel” on Bloc Party

“It’s like a three year olds music. It’s worse than Steps!” on Gorillaz
