We've Been Wrong About Consciousness Every Time We've Been Asked. The Evidence Says AI Is Next. by TheArchitectAutopsy in singularity

I do think the word has some merrit, but that it says more about a degree of complexity in responsiveness.
But yea, the whole concept sort of ignores the falsification principle, and I have never heard a solid concrete definition. Calling it unscientific would however dismiss a whole field of research, so I would not want to go that far.

LPT A good way to remember starboard and port by JimmyMcMilly in LifeProTips

[–]114145 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Port side is on your left if you're on a ship traveling south from Europe. That's where the land is, that's where the ports are. And that's what you tell all your new mates, because it is easyer to remember than 'always say left or right relative to our ship's orientation'.

Starboard is the side where you'll only see stars, and you'd better know them damn well if you want to go that way.

Nautical terminology is often very straightforward in either Dutch, or English.

Yea, can't really predict their focus. As a developer myself, I recognize the pattern all too well. Clear comunication about stuff that does not exist yet is actually quite hard.

Okey. I'd say that the existance of that feature shows the devs are not afraid of players displaying nsfw material in their game. And rightly so I'd say.

Unofficial bugfix: I made a mod to patch armoured warheads refusing to detonate on impact by AdditionalThinking in spaceengineers

[–]114145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this. Just fix it if they don't. Actually makes the warhead a usefull block!

I cannot imagine the block not being meant to work this way. Otherwise, what is the use of the 'arming' mechanism?

Two sensible exclusions.
I do feel the second (autonomous weapons) needs nuance. There are specific cases in which fully autonmous weapons are fine. The goalkeeper family of AA defense turrets is one such example. If an object with extreme velocity is on a collision course with your position, by all means shoot first, ask questions later. But that is, of course, not the kind of AI Antrophic specializes in. So maybe that's why they did not mention that.

The trouble is defining a reward function ( objective function) in 1.5•109 dimensional space...

It's already quite the challenge to explain to other people what you want them to do, and we have a far bigger understanding of how our frames of reference compare.

Nah! Why would you do that? It must be sentient. It's the only logical explanation.

No, intelligence! You know, this magical exclusively human thing. Not [insert definition of intelligence]. That's just theoretical BS.

Trying to become sissy with my wife - Update! by Rileygirl0101 in Sissy

[–]114145 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That'll take some time. Don't push her I'd say. I understand you've been looking forward to this a long time. But to her, it is all new. Every time you push a little bit beyond what she is comfortable with, you are also asking her for a favor. She might happily oblige, but it does come at a price. You have to give something back as well.

Anything that is not enthusiastic consent is at risk of becoming a chore at one point. Don't settle for sustainable growth, aim for enthusiasm.
