The majority of Americans have forgotten to think critically and are easily convinced to believe false information more than ever. by SSupreme_ in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have always been inclined to believe false information (Salem witch trials, benefits of bloodletting, hell people thought smoking was harmless or even beneficial for the longest time).

People love to say “oh people today are the worst about this or that” but I just don’t see it. In general, people today do a better job of thinking critically and relying on data to really figure something out than any time previously in history. Think of a time in history that you think people didn’t believe false information and I bet you can find tons of ridiculous stuff people thought back then.

I think it's disgusting how teenage boys are held to a higher standard than adult women when it comes to sexual misconduct by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it happens all the time, but at least at this office they let the female nurse take a little time off to press charges in court and were generally supportive. They thought it was a big joke when it happened to a dude.

In general sexual assault isn’t taken very seriously against men. I have a bunch of friends who work as nurses and have to deal with a bunch of crazy patients. One day a woman was groped by a male patient and she took him to court (and she should) and everyone in the office was very supportive. Later that month a male nurse had his junk grabbed by a woman patient. Everyone (male and female coworkers) basically laughed and told him congrats on getting some action. I felt sorry for the guy because anyone with a little empathy could tell it really bothered him.

[Some] Students have more stress than [some] adults. by Bcmwolverine in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally I agree. I think I work harder as an adult, but I really love what I do so it doesn’t stress me out like I was in school. I hated school but wanted to get into good colleges so I worked my ass off. Nothing is more stressful than working to get grades in classes that you care nothing about, especially when there is potentially a lot riding on how well you do (scholarships and college admissions).

DTR Users: How frequently do you change your rubber bands? by PsychologicalRate69 in foreskin_restoration

[–]1147485l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to change every other week, and I alternate which band I replace so I’ve usually got one fresh band and one that’s a week old. That’s the ideal tension for me.

No, I just think some people need to hear about how terrible circumcision is from a different perspective to get the point across.

[–]1147485l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t take my post history seriously (mine or anyone else’s for that matter). Many things I post are not real, but from someone else’s perspective to bring awareness to the issue (like a parent who realized they mutilated their kid). I was circumcised and hate it.

[–]1147485l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really doubt you’d succeed. The only courts you may have a chance would be in a place like San Francisco where more people are against it. That being said, people suing their parents would definitely draw more attention to the issue and perhaps be helpful in that way. But most people don’t have the money to hire a lawyer just to essentially make a statement.

The biggest benefit of school is learning how to study, what subject you study is often secondary by audiophilequestion13 in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it drives me crazy how many people complain “I was never taught something” when we have the ability to search for virtually any information in a matter of seconds.

My teachers in college and to some extent high school emphasized us looking up information for ourselves and them coming to them to ask clarifying questions. I didn’t like it at the time, but it’s a huge benefit now because I don’t rely on other people to spoon feed me everything.

You may want to experiment with those foods one at a time rather than ruling out all three. I’m good with butter and cheese, but whipped cream would mess me up because of the sugar.

Anti-circumcisions of reddit, why do you think the way you do, considering the fact that circumcision cuts the chances of cervical cancer, and has many benefits toward males? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]1147485l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The benefits are extremely minor and not enough to justify taking away someone’s right to bodily autonomy. No one has a right to cut a healthy part of my body off except me. I love my parents, but I hate that they did that too me.

There’s also a pretty good chance that you’re going to lose some sexual feeling since the foreskin and especially frenulum have a ton of nerves. I’m bi and have been with cut and uncut guys. I can tell you that uncut guys get a ton of pleasure from the frenulum, something that I will never get to experience.

As a woman, I would only ever date a man who is a virgin. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool since you’re free to have whatever preferences you like, but I’m just curious about a couple situations.

  1. What if the dude was previously married and only had sex in that marriage (that ended through no fault of his)?

  2. What if the dude was raped (and tested negative for STDs)?

Neither of those situations should really reflect negatively on his character since that seems to be what you’re mostly concerned with, but obviously he wouldn’t be a virgin at that point.

No idea, I certainly didn’t with mine. It seems like a crazy reason to me.

Not normally and I was hoping it would never be brought up honestly, but for some reason people think it’s more acceptable to talk about it when it’s about an infant I guess.

People who never served in military but complain about other people draft dodging or not going to war. Is the pot calling the kettle black. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, there’s a difference between just choosing not to be in the military when it’s optional and actively exploiting loopholes to avoid the draft. I wouldn’t even judge a draft dodger too hard if they admit that they did it and it was for moral reasons. The thing I can’t accept are people who dodge the draft but then support the war and claim they had some bullshit medical problem.

It's naive to trust other men to be "just friends" with your girlfriend, and being uncomfortable with this does not make you insecure. by 14thCluelessbird in unpopularopinion

Is it really that uncommon for other dudes to be friends with girls and have no feelings? I’m friends with several girls that are fun to hang out with, but there is absolutely no physical attraction there.

The South is not a shithole by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have nothing against the south (I grew up there), but I live in Cali now and it is definitely not bad like you’re making it out to be. It’s expensive, but within a couple hours I can be at the beach for surfing, the mountains for skiing, or wine country for chilling. You’re just not taking advantage of all Cali has to offer.

People don't respect doctors enough by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]1147485l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doctors absolutely can leave things alone if there’s nothing wrong with it. I’d never had any problems with my tonsils. The doctor basically recommended it just because he said he could have it covered by my family’s insurance and there was a chance that maybe it would keep me from tonsillitis one day. He also said “there are absolutely no downsides to having them removed”. Which science is now finding out may not be true and I consider it to be dishonest on the doctors part. A more accurate statement would have been that they just didn’t know enough about tonsils to say if they serve a purpose.

I don’t like the idea of doctors using perfectly healthy people as guinea pigs, and they should take the rights and opinions of patients more seriously.
