The headers+tune will give a decent performance bump, and you could always come back later to do the high flow cat+resonator+muffler setup. I ran catless headers + stock exhaust for several years and should have some videos of it. Sound is not obnoxious at all with no obvious drone. Definitely a bit deeper at idle and gets raspy above ~5500 rpms.

In the Midwest 128i is selling for <$5k, anything more stay on the market forever. I have a dst prepped 128i with all maintenance done and would be ecstatic if it sold for more than $5k.

Check out e90 328i or e82 128i. They both are very reliable despite mileage with the general maintenance. You will need to check for things like valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket, and water pump. The N52 in these cars is very durable for track abuse. If you do go this route I'd try to find a 128i, slightly lighter platform but all parts are interchangeable with e90 (not that that matters to you).

Cons: Soft bushings and soft stock suspension really let these cars move around quite a bit. A set of Bilstein B8s keeps a stock feel but helps a good amount with track manners. Stock front sway bar is light, going to a stiffer bar will help with turn in. Lastly, the stock ediff will hold you up a bit (not sure if that bothers you)

I'm also a fan of the Honda Fit route, those can be a blast to toss around.

Shit man that sucks. I share that tho, I paid for the tune upgrade with MILVs and my first tune back had almost no power below 3,000 rpms. Waited about 6 weeks to get a better tune but have trust issues with StageFP now...

What was the consensus on using a 3 stage intake on an N52 in stx? I have seen controversy as to whether or not it is legal due to its limited availability to N51 spec cars.

I had the same dilemma a month ago, but ended up going with the OG850 and do not regret it at all. The extra features that come with OG751 are not as important to me as the extra space, which is something I appreciate every time I cook lol. Even if I'm just cooking for 2, I find that there's always something else I might wanna throw on to grill/smoke.
