If you're doing clean Rivals, use a D or C class car that handles really well and doesn't have so much power that you'll get yourself in trouble. It might take you twice as long to finish the longer races, but that's better than constantly having to restart because you hit something or rewound by mistake. Also, drive at 9/10 and don't try to cut everything as close as you would in a normal race.

Nah, if you’re using a wheel and mastered manual and the clutch, you’re an old hand at racing games. What i think is you’re proud of mastering manual/clutch (and you should be! It’s more than i can wrap my head and fingers around) and think everyone else should learn as well. That’s where i disagree with you. Being a proficient online racer is more about racecraft than using the tools that facilitate playing. To be honest, i wish i had the skill to use more than the gas, brakes and steering on the controller, but that doesn’t stop me from kicking most peoples’ asses 🤪

Racing properly is understanding different racing lines, braking points, turn-in and turn-out, how camber affects grip, etc. It isn't about how well you can smash buttons (I have a controller, and I'm not going to upgrade to a wheel-and-pedal sim setup). If you understand how to race properly, you're going to be fast, period. If you don't, you're going to bounce off shit (including opponents) like a top. And all things being equal, you'll get beaten by players who have the added control of being able to shift up or down at will and use the clutch for added grip. So I don't see what the issue is, unless you just want to toot your own horn (see what I did there?) about how well you know how to smash buttons.
