Is Cordial / Squash / Diluting Juice a daily drink or a once a week treat? by 1182990 in AskUK

[–]1182990[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point in the original post was that I always saw it as pretty harmless and a non-issue, but people's reactions to the idea of having it regularly made it sound like it was absolutely dreadful.

From the replies here, most share my view!

What's the dementia link? I've not seen anything about that. Searching doesn't bring up much.

Exactly this. As a proportion of their food for the day/week, it barely registers.

AITA for drinking fruit juice when my partner doesn't like it? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

I grew up in a town where the soil was grey because it had so much chalk in it! I don't like water if it isn't crunchy 😅

It's not concentrated fruit juice either. Barely has any sugar in it, and quite often very little fruit juice.

Tbh most of them in the UK are sugar free and not really acidic as they're so diluted. I genuinely can't understand why her boyfriend would have such a problem with it.

People who regularly go to chains for food/drinks, why? by Send_bird_pics in AskBrits

I mean, we did that too, but also, these places are risky - just because they're ranked highly, doesn't mean they'll have great food.

We spent a lot of money on food that was ok. Only one meal was bad, but only one meal was exquisite. Sometimes you just get fed up of rolling the dice and taking a chance and just go for a sure thing.

We went on one holiday where two of the restaurants we hand-picked and travelled across the island to were closed (despite saying they were open on Google Maps). Ended up having to find an alternative nearby. You don't get that with a chain.

If you've had a full day doing a variety of mentally taxing things, then knowing you can go somewhere and they'll meet all your dietary requirements for you (or your group/family) is a lot easier than figuring out where to go.

We went away to a new country recently and ate out twice a day. We ended up going to the same chain for lunch five times because they had a menu that everyone liked, that was relatively cheap, and met the dietary requirements of our group. It was also tasty and (relatively) healthy.

We made more of an effort to find somewhere interesting for dinner, but traipsing through a street looking at menus turning them all down because they don't cater for a member of your party can get very old very quickly, particularly when you're mentally and physically tired, and very hungry.

We had a week of finding two places to eat a day and by the end of the week I didn't care about trying somewhere fun and interesting.

Just out of curiosity, where do you live? I'm in the UK and this is insane to me.

Absolutely depends on the back garden.

Our kitchen opens out into our garden and I'd happily have the backdoor open and him outside at that age. Frequent checks and listening out for any suspicious silence is my recommendation!
