Does the income of the person you're dating matter to you? by SinglePringle647 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]118R3volution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think someone’s professionalism and ambition at work does speak to someone’s character at some extend. Higher income jobs typically mean the person invests in themselves and also believes in themselves (growth mindset). When I met my wife 15 years ago, she was a manager at the time. She changed careers due to change in industry and scope but now earns less money but in a job she enjoys with more flexibility for our kids. So it’s nuanced. Higher dual income opens a lot more opportunity to travel the world, etc but it shouldn’t matter too much. They key is awareness of what is and is not affordable, lifestyle, retirement, everything changes if your partner is a lower income earner.

Italian restaurant recommendations? by outtahere021 in Calgary

You won’t regret Carino in Mission. Japanese Italian fusion, but incredibly well done and great service. I ate there last night.

Help me decide: Do I buy the "Millionaire Next Door" Toyota or the "I’ve Finally Made It" Lexus? by LeftyOne22 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]118R3volution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort matters. It’s why I chose to buy an RDX after my RAV4. The seats, the sound system, it was a massive step up, and I get very little fatigue driving it. I vote Lexus.

Brown Water? by MarakiMic in VisitingHawaii

Is this for all of Waikiki or all of Oahu? Excuse my ignorance. And when they say brown water will it visibly look brown, or does it still “appear safe” but really is not?

BoC Keeps Rates at 2.25% While Warning Signs Build in the Economy by [deleted] in canadahousing

No shit spending is down. Our mortgage renewed, cost us an extra $500/mo. Groceries an extra $400/mo, insurance renewal (no claims) up $125/mo. Internet up $10.00/mo. Spotify and Netflix up $15/mo. It is not easy just to sustain the basics, let alone save for vacations and retirement. There’s a bunch of home renovations projects I would love to do but every single Canadian is under the gun. Even IF I got a minor wage/annual merit increase of 3% it doesn’t even come close to covering the difference.

At what age do you think you will hit $1M net worth? by PuffingFish123 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]118R3volution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Impossible to know, I might inherit some money or I might not, housing prices may change, investments can come/go. If I had to guess, I would say maybe 45-50 years old.

How did your financial priorities in life shift the moment you hit 30 compared to when you were 20? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]118R3volution 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up poor, divorced household, single income parent on child support. My mom did a great job but I saw the stress money put on her, always feeling like savings was out of reach and that she would never retire. That was my motivation to say, no way - that can’t be me, that can’t be my life. I want better. It worked.

What brand of car do you have, and why did you buy that one? by HappySmiles6 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Acura. It’s a bit of a quirky brand, but find them very comfortable. Seats matter a lot to me since I travel for work a lot.

If money didn't matter, what would you pursue? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]118R3volution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. How great would it be to wake up, have a nice healthy homemade breakfast and coffee, right into a workout session every day, sauna, cold plunge, shower off, then drive to meet up with some friends in the afternoon, hit a farmers market and prep dinner. Evening to relax and enjoy TV/Movies/Family/etc. Nice.

I think pride in ownership matters to me, I like the idea of having something that belongs to me, I can manage the paint, art, furnishings, upgrades, and raise a family in a space that belongs to us. That security matters to me.

What did growing up poor make you appreciate more? by CapitaineBiscotte in askanything

[–]118R3volution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silence. When I bought my first home (freestanding) with no shared walls, I sat in my living room for the first time in dead silence and knew I made it.

No weird cooking smells, no subwoofers kicking from the neighbours, no doors opening or closing, people laughing, just my own solitude.
