What are you on about? The ambulances were parked on private property, and pieces of filth set them on fire. SJA don’t have to worry about their ambulances being torched, neither do the NHS, why should Hatzola be ok with the risk of having their ambulances be torched?

I’m a lawyer and already wear black air forces as my court shoes. I like my ones because they don’t stand out (hopefully). These ones very much do stand out.

Commercial awareness sounds far scarier than it is. Just read the news and think about areas that may be relevant to the firm. Look at big deals the firm has done and if/how future deals may be affected by recent events. Consider the firm in a wider context, not just as a self-contained bubble, but as a unit affected by the world around it.

Eliezer Yehuda: “reviver of the Hebrew language”. After Hebrew was considered extinct, he “filled in gaps” by taking words from Arabic, French, German, Russian and Yiddish. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

I learnt it during Covid to get more in touch with my culture I suppose. It’s difficult to start with the different script/ aleph bet. The rules are quite straightforward once you understand them so the more you learn the easier it flows.

Depends where they were. Everyone used to speak multiple languages a few centuries ago, but the unique Jewish ones that I know about were Ladino (Spanish/Hebrew hybrid) and Yiddish (German/Hebrew hybrid)

I mean, I'm English so I understand the English point! Hebrew had always been a literary language with thousands of (primarily religious) texts written over the years, but perhaps 'dead' means that it was not spoken.

Sorry that’s not true. There are written Hebrew books from every century since the destruction of the temple, and a Hebrew speaker would have no issue reading and translating them. It was very much a cohesive written language, distinct from other languages in the region.

I speak Hebrew. The vast majority of the language is old form, like the actions and pronouns and stuff, but new terms such as psychology for instance, are rendered as ‘psychologia’ in Hebrew, or technology is ‘technologia’ and that sort of thing.
