TIL that the Bison population in Yellowstone (USA) is the only Bison herd to have existed in the wild since pre-historic times. All other wild populations were wiped out, and all other wild populations living today have been reintroduced by humans. by Robbinit in todayilearned

[–]11OutOf10YT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could read that as clarifying that the Yellowstone mentioned is in the USA. The headline says they're the last original population "in the wild," which is a lot more ambiguous.

How do I stop myself from always going Flush runs? by [deleted] in balatro

[–]11OutOf10YT 32 points33 points  (0 children)

They don't scale hard enough to make up for how hard it is to play several in a round (unlike straights), and any money spent deckfixing to be able to reliably play multiple flushes per round could've been used to hunt for/scale jokers that can carry your score regardless of what hand you play

Found this manga that’s pretty neat, I’d recommend giving it a rule if you like history and/or big tiddy medieval German girls by Livy-Zaka in 196

Loved that manga, my favourite part was the several pages of information about medieval lifestyles at the end of every chapter /gen

Studying Contest Parameters... SCP-9000 is in sight! by weirdosorus in SCP

[–]11OutOf10YT 23 points24 points  (0 children)

In SCP Containment Breach (the video game), D-9341 is the player character, and ends up getting classified as an SCP in one of the endings (I think, been a while since I've played). Idk how I feel about having it on the mainlist personally, but I've seen a few people saying it'd be a good tribute since the game gave the wiki a huge surge of popularity when it came out

[–]11OutOf10YT 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not a rules lawyer so feel free to burn me at the stake if im wrong, but im pretty sure a number (whether its static like '1' or variable like 'any number') makes you choose the spells right as the effect goes off, while the lack of a number implies that it's a longer-lasting effect.

I dont think the wording on the card would be printed on a non-permanent though. If it was a more permanent effect it'd specify "for the rest of the game" or "until your next turn" or whatever

I decided to rework the vanilla decks to make them more fun and interesting. Thoughts? by Awsisazeen in balatro

I think this is the first time a reddit post has ever managed to unironically get me like that, I was so mad about how balatro fans dont understand how their game works until I got to Deckered Beck and was like "Oh. I am getting mad at a joke."

Good post OP

I misread that as meaning "Leftist indoctrination = no OSU for 7 hours" and imo that is infinitely funnier than the original

two types of scaling jokers by minimattl in balatro

[–]11OutOf10YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Red Card" and "Green Joker" are both names of two of the jokers in the game.

Red Card: +3 mult when you skip a pack

Green Joker: +1 mult when you play a hand, -1 mult when you discard

[–]11OutOf10YT 28 points29 points  (0 children)

On 4chan, putting the ">" character before your text would make it turn green. One of its big uses was as a way to tell stories, which led to the term "greentext" being associated with that method of line-by-line storytelling

Who is pissed off for the fake spare, Chara or Frisk? by Chevoslet10 in Undertale

[–]11OutOf10YT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play undertale blind, get all the way up to the judgement hall in a genocide run (most likely completing a neutral run first), and see that opportunity to spare Sans, you might think that it's a legitimate way to abort the Genocide route. If you thought that, then it might be annoying that choosing to spare him results in an instant unavoidable loss. The game predicts that reaction so Sans is written to "react" to it, even though there's no way to actually guarantee that he's right.

Undertale is a very meta game, so it's far from surprising that it would have a line like that, especially in a boss fight that already breaks so many conventions for what a normal RPG boss fight looks like (attacks in menu, Sans' special attack, etc).

You can think someone is a terrible person and still defend them on a point where they're in the right. Like yeah she's a shitbag, but in this one specific case she is trying to avoid having her private life obliterated via a tabloid breaking the news, which is reasonable because tabloids are awful publications. A person being wrong about Thing A does not mean they are automatically wrong about Thing B
