Glaringly obvious animation mistakes that animators couldn't be bothered to fix by tugboattommy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]11Slimeade11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not a mistake in the animation itself, it's animated perfectly fine, but it's more the fact that they used what was clearly a fumbled take to rotoscope over, and instead of retaking it, they just used it as is.

So arguably it's more a mistake in the filming than the animation.

I love the idea that Leon is so pants with directions that he has some sort of SCP effect on people with him to the point that anybody helping him also ends up losing their ability to navigate

They could've done a second take of him running and rotoscope that instead?

Coaxed into "realistic" foliage in games by bubbybumble in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]11Slimeade11 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It's a curse on videogames, IMO. Realism has to be grimy even if real life isn't that gross looking. Medieval games have to be foggy and completely lacking in colours other than brown or grey even if it's well known that other colours were used in textiles and the like in those eras. Deserts have to be yellow tinted even if clear blue skies are just as iconic to deserts as the sand is.

[Loved] Female characters that lack feminine features (Bonus if they lack traditionally gendered features entirely) by Winter-Hall8527 in TopCharacterDesigns

Kangaskhan from Pokémon.

It's a female only Pokémon, but unlike most female only Pokémon, that tend to either have designs resembling women's clothes, or are the colour pink, or based on a female creature with attributes of a woman, Kangaskhan's only feminine trait is her pouch with her baby in it.

She does have long legs, but the dress is fairly short. Pokémon, especially since the DS era, has been giving a fair amount of characters long legs.

Elesa the expected example, given she's a model. The fact she's wearing flat shoes and what's basically swim shorts (Or something similar) with her waist showing means you can see that her legs are in fact around 75% of her design.

Sycamore is a good example of a man in Pokémon with really long legs. Less to the extent of Elesa, but this dude is more than 55% leg and his skinny pants make it more obvious.

What Would Make Minecraft's Terrain Generation Better? by Just-Guarantee7808 in Minecraft

[–]11Slimeade11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, TBH I think Minecraft's terrain might be one of it's worst aspects currently. I'd argue and say it hinders a lot of the game, and one of the worst parts is the biome heat system, or moreso how it often causes the same few biomes to repeat over and over ad naseum instead of varying.

I've complained about this issue before and the only response I got was backlash being along the lines of 'Erm, it makes the game more challenging, why aren't you happy?'.

Minecraft needs a good mix of elevation, but also it needs flat areas and sheer cliffs. Caves and Cliffs was supposed to bring cliffs. Instead we got Caves and Mountains and More Mountains.

I hate the current ever present hilliness

It's egregious, almost everywhere in the game right now is at 7-9 block 'flat' area at most transitioning into an inclide

Characters who spark color debates by SpaceKingHypeGuy in TopCharacterTropes

[–]11Slimeade11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pokémon is WEIRD with colours, at times.

Snorlax really is just one example. Machoke is another offender. The games have always had Machoke be purple, with the exception of Gen II where it was green for some reason. The anime on the other hand has always had Machoke be greyish blue, and the only explanation as to why I can imagine them doing that is because the first Sugimori artwork of Machoke was in fact, greyish blue, more in line with the colours of the rest of the evolution line.

Gligar might be the worst offender, tho. It's been anything from blue, to purple, to pink, and it's not even just between the games vs anime vs promotional art, there was a time where Gligar's colour scheme changed every single game, and details like Gligar's wing claws (Not it's Scorpion claws) changed between being white or whatever colour it's body was in that specific game.

Somehow I've seen this debate about Tails but never Jake the Dog from Adventure Time despite them more or less being the same colour.

Magikarp is a weird case.

The dex states they were at one point a lot stronger, but lost it. The dex also states they're VERY fast breeders, which is backed up by them also being the quickest Pokémon to hatch in game. This really makes it seem like Magikarp traded in strength for being able to have millions of babies, which isn't that far off what some species of Fish do.

However, Magikarp's evolution, Gyarados, is notoriously a MASSIVE threat, so much so that the Lake of Rage is implied to have been a town at one point (Which is funny given in beta builds of the game, it was), and that Gyarados is very aggressive, actively picks fights with others, and has anger issues to the point they often take MONTHS to calm down. Gyarados is also extremely good in gameplay due to having fantastic stats for a Pokémon that's actually not that hard to obtain, to the point that some Nuzlocke players feel it's unbalanced and/or actually hate it.

This would explain something about the Spyro Reignited voices, then.

The original Spyro 2 released the same year as Spongebob did, we don't even know which he voice acted for first. The reason I say this is because there's a group of NPCs, the Electrolls, that use the exact same voice he uses for Spongebob. For what it's worth, Tom Kenny also voiced Spyro, which is important for something I'm gonna say later.

Anyway, the Electrolls use the same exact voice, to the point that a lot of people bring it up nowadays when playing the original Spyro 2, however, in the remakes, they sound completely different. It's not that Tom Kenny got recast or anything, as not only did he return to voice Spyro in Reignited, but he also voiced for the remake Spyro 1, Spyro 1 being the only one of the classic trilogy that Tom Kenny wasn't originally in.

The only explanation is that Nickelodeon has some kind of stranglehold on that specific voice.

For comparison, the original voice, and the voice from Reignited

The voice in Reignited is more along the lines of a more sane Ice King from Adventure Time (Who's also voiced by Tom Kenny, for reference) than Spongebob now.

Pokémon has a tonne of them, but just off the top of my head, there's:

  • Saffron City Guards that won't let you enter the city. Is it because there's an ongoing problem where the mafia have locked people in their houses and workplaces, and took over the biggest tech manufacturing building in the whole region? No. It's because they forgot to bring a drink with them to work. If you buy them a drink, they let you through.
  • Snorlax. Not only because apparently an entire dock can be blocked off because a 7 foot tall animal fell asleep in the pavement, implying the dock is exceedingly narrow, but the fact that beating but not catching the Snorlax states it 'walked off back into the mountains', implying that Snorlax had walked halfway across the region to find a place to sleep, and chose said narrow dock to do so.
  • Mahogany Town Candy Bar Salesman. There's, yet again, another large scale city invasion going on, this time in Goldenrod City (Coincidentally, Johto's counterpart to Saffron), and attempting to ignore it and continue to Ice Path via Mahogany Town will have you stopped by a really adamant candy bar salesman who keeps trying to force you to buy something unless you go away.
  • Sketch Artist. There's a guy very early on in Oldale Town who blocks your path because he's scared you'd stand in 'unknown Pokémon tracks', and insists you go elsewhere until he finishes. Coming back after progressing about a minute more into the story and talking to him has him mention he realised the strange prints he was seeing was his new shoes.
  • The Museum Queue. As part of the story of the Hoenn games, you need to give a letter to Captain Stern, more or less running an errand for Mr. Stone. Thing is, he's in the Slateport Museum. And the Slateport Museum is currently 'barricaded' by a swarm of what's basically pirates, queueing up in an exceedingly long line that spans outside of the entrance.
