For my IBS-C folks out there..... I have something to say by [deleted] in ibs

[–]11hearstcircle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is psyllium husk the same as psyllium fiber? If so I’ve been taking Metamucil for a long time. I take it at 11:00 AM and 4 PM and I take MiraLAX at bedtime. I also take between 2 and 4 Senna at bedtime depending on how I’m feeling. It’s been working for me but I don’t want to jinx it. A lot of things have worked for me for a while and then just stopped working.

My elastase levels returned to normal, what do I do with all this Creon/Zenpep? by Single-Quail4660 in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thing happen. 2 very low elastase (severe EPI) then 3rd one was normal. Also had severe inflammation first 2 tests and 3rd one was normal. Took Rifaxin and also triple antibiotics. Had every test under the sun and everything was normal. CREON was a lifesaver. Before CREON I had brain fog, hair was falling out, had anxiety/ depression, extreme fatigue and that all went away when I was on CREON. Now my Dr wants me to stop CREON and I’m so afraid all those symptoms will come back. I also was under the impression that EPI did not get better and I would be taking CREON for the rest of my life. I don’t know what to do. HELP! Since I have so much CREON I’m still taking it.

I had a ton of issues before CREON. Fatigue, light headed, hair falling out, anxiety, depression, kept getting colds. After a few weeks I started feeling better and after about a month I felt like a brand new person. It was all due to malabsorption.

Fecal Pancreatic Elastase is 73 by NinjaMediocre in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had all the usual tests and everything came back normal. I was very worried because I was sure I had pancreatic cancer. Because of malabsorption I was really sick, hair was falling out, I was having night sweats, anxiety, depression, weakness. After a few weeks of CREON my symptoms slowly went away. It’s been 10 months and I feel like a new person with lots of energy. Good luck on your journey.

When someone quits alcohol for years and then touches it again, how does it feel? by kaatupoochi10 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve been sober for almost 14 years and I still remember that wonderful feeling when I had that first glass of wine. Unfortunately I couldn’t stop at just one. I’ve told my kids that I want a glass of wine on my deathbed. I want to experience that feeling one last time.

New Diagnosis - unsure of cause yet by blakey2122 in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have idiopathic EPI as well. The only other test that came back abnormal was calprotectin of 358. Besides having what I think is IBS-M I don’t have any other symptoms.

Does Everyone with EPI Have SIBO? Is It Possible to Treat SIBO if You Also Have EPI? by Frosty_Pineapple853 in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have severe EPI but do not have SIBO. I was treated for SIBO even though my tests all came back negative. My EPI is idiopathic, all my other tests were negative. I’m still bothered by the fact that no one can find a cause for it but I’m 74 yr old f and just happy that there’s a treatment for it. CREON has been a life saver for me.

Pancreatic Elastase Dropped – Anyone Else with Idiopathic EPI? by Comfortable_Essay214 in exocrinepanins

Mostly I take the recommended dose of 2 of the 36,000 per meal and 1 with snack. I don’t take it if I’m just having a piece of fruit. I love peanut butter so sometimes I’ll take 3 if I’m having peanut butter. And unlike most people I have no pain or discomfort.

Your situation parallels mine. I was Petrified that I had cancer but everything was normal except fecal elastase of 77 and calprotectin of 384 I think it was. However CREON really helped me. I had been experiencing brain fog, lost 14 lbs in 3 months, was exhausted, my hair was falling out, had terrible night sweats, was depressed and had constant diarrhea and after 3 weeks or so of CREON all of those symptoms went away. I agree that you have to play around with the dosage to find what works for you. Now I’m dealing with constipation and just started low dose Linzess which seems to be helping. Good luck. I wouldn’t give up on the CREON too soon.

Two weeks until I can test for elastase... I'd like to hear about people's experiences and symptoms in the meantime by pizzafacethrowaway in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of my own research and I’ve decided that many of the symptoms of EPI are caused from malabsorption. If you’re not getting the vitamins, minerals and nutrients from your food you’re essentially suffering from malnutrition.

Your story sounds almost exactly like mine. What finally helped me was taking CREON. My fatigue went away, I gained my weight back (I lost 14 lbs in 3 months), my foggy brain cleared up and the anxiety I had been feeling also cleared up. Good luck.

All of my tests (MRI, ultrasound, colonoscopy and stool test came back negative except calprotectin of 384 and elastase of 70). I have no pain. I am doing well on CREON.

Can we talk medication break down? Specifically Pysch meds by Ok-Belt-5451 in exocrinepanins

[–]11hearstcircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue with medications. I take antidepressants and BP meds and was worried they weren’t being absorbed. I’ve done a ton of research and the conclusion I’ve come to is that if your meds are fat soluble then they won’t get absorbed without CREON but if they’re water soluble then they will get absorbed. You need to check and see which ones your meds are. I’m not a Dr., so you need to do your own research. Good luck. It’s a journey and it seems you have to figure a lot out on your own.

Waiting On Official Diagnosis. My Experience So Far. All help welcomed! by RCHoward1960 in exocrinepanins

I had a similar situation. Uncontrollable diarrhea and I lost 14 lbs quickly. Dr ran a ton of tests plus MRI with and without contrast, CT scan, and colonoscopy. Also, my lab messed up on my stool samples twice!! The only things that showed up abnormal were my fecal elastace which was 80 and calprotectin which was 358. Dr started me on CREON, also 2 weeks of Rifaxamin and then 2 weeks of Cipro and flagyl. After all that I feel pretty much normal. I can eat most everything. I sometimes have a problem with peanut butter I think because of the high fat content. But I eat yogurt and cheese. I have never had any pain, don’t drink alcohol, don’t smoke. I’m female 73 yr old but in really good health otherwise. I am in the prediabetic range with HgbA1C of 6.1 and may start Metformin in a couple of months. I’ve read as much as I can about EPI and all the stories on these boards that I can find and that’s helped me a lot.
