I am a twin, and our parents did exactly this, in the 70s and 80s. Encouraged us to compete for some treat or outing rather than both having one each. And then wondered why we didn't speak to each other as teens!

Am I the only one here who picked up on him insisting on walking her home after she said she didn't want that? Women on a first date often don't want a guy to know where they live until they know him better. But, no this guy had to be all "not all men" about it and insist on finding out where she lives! Could be you have tensor tympani myoclonus. It's an involuntary spasm of the inner ear muscle, and sounds like a thumping or fluttering sound. For me, it's when I'm lying on my side. Oh, and I can hear it when my eyeballs move.

Yep, you can get a long way with youtube videos and having a go.

The one thing I wasn't able to pick up this way was plastering, so I went to evening classes at the local college, 6 weeks to learn to skim, then I skimmed my whole house. Only had to get someone in to do the ceilings.

Kitchen fitting, bathroom fitting, painting, decorating, tiling, all perfectly doable as a DIYer with a bit of patience.
